At the end of the hallway we found another intersection. The plates that seem to show directions had faded long ago and without much to base our decision on we picked the right again.
We arrived at a large gate that was left half open, after walking beyond it we arrived at another room. This one had boxes, many of them stacked on top of each other, and on each of the four walls are…
“… Are those… weapons?” I said as I observed what I could only call a morbidly designed sword.
Is this the armory or something?
Lilia went and opened one of the boxes.
“There are more inside…”
Double edged swords, spears, lances, katanas, great swords, knives, hammers, scythes, axes, shields. They all had a little science fiction touch to them but they still resembled the originals at least.
Some boxes had guns. Big guns, small guns, normal guns, laser guns, lots and lots of guns. As I went through every box to see what kind of expensive toys are stored inside I found something that every man woman and child knows of as a symbol of the most relevant franchise in the sci-fi genre.
A freaking light saber.
“Um… what are you doing?” Asked Lilia as I stare with an open mouth at the dream of every child inside every grown ass man.
“… I feel the force awakening.”
“… what?… is this the first time you see an energy blade?”
“…. Yes ….” I said, staring directly at the glowing stick.
“Well I have to agree it’s a strong weapon. but that type is too hard to use and consume a lot of energy.”
“I will take it.”
“Are you sure you can handle it?”
“Doesn’t matter, I’m keeping it.”
A magic sword or a legendary cursed artifact would have been preferable, but those like me have a weak resistance to cool shiny objects even from other genres.
Speaking of cool shiny objects there is this small box with a pair of bracers that doesn’t seem to fit alongside the high tech weaponry, having a more fantasy like design and vibe to them. Because of my affection for the worlds of swords and magic, I felt a kind of connection to the strange items so I ended up equipping them without thinking.
“An armory huh…” Lilia murmured. “It’s strange, there are enough weapons to equip a small army, but it doesn’t seem like there is more than one of the same weapon.”
“Hmm… you are right.” Each weapon was different in some way, sometimes the difference is too small to notice, but there are no doubles. This degree of variety shouldn’t be easy on the budget, nor is it a practical choice.
It’s almost as if…
“They were testing them… maybe?” Oh shit, not again “could it be…”
Okay, it may be too quick of a conclusion to pop up right now but trust me, I have all the experience from the games, manga, anime, movies and also novels to backup this assumption.
“They weren’t just trying to return humanity to its original state, they were creating soldiers…”
And not any kind of mass produced run of the mile storm-troopers, but elites with personalized skills. That would explain all the weaponry. It might be just another rushed assumption like before, but humans aren’t strangers to this kind of behaviors.
“Maybe it’s just that the staff aren’t allowed to bring weapons to the upper floors?” Asked Lilia.
“I highly doubt that. What are the chances that a group of a hundred and thirty odd persons owning a completely unique weapon each?” And I find it hard to imagine a scientist swinging around that war hammer.
And if I’m correct, this kind of room is usually followed by…
“… Like I thought …”
Your classic, generic arena.
~◇~
Behind the next door was a clearly overused arena of some sort. There are debris scattered everywhere, a ceiling that threatened to collapse, burn marks here and there, craters in the ground and a hole in the wall that reached all the way outside.
Ah, and let’s not forget about the giant robot at the corner, that’s an important detail you know.
As we went around Lilia was the first to notice a number of burnt down humanoid figures. Surprisingly none of them were actually human, they are all just really damaged androids. Training dummies I assume. Or were they guards?
“Looks like something went wrong here.” Said Lilia as she peeked into the hole reaching outside.
“It was made from the inside, huh… Was there a weapon that could do this in the previous room?”
“I don’t know. Even the strongest hand held weapon would need more than one shot to do it.” Lilia seemed a bit disturbed.
Someone was here, dealt with all the training dummies then escaped by making a new exit. Knowing how places like this are usually structured I gazed around once more.
“There it is.” I said pointing at the upper part of the wall facing the hole where the generic monitoring room should be.
I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near that place when whatever happened here happened. We went back to the previous hallway. There were a number of rooms in that direction some of which had large screens and a lot of chairs. We also found the stairs leading up.
“It reached this far… what in the world could cause this?” Lilia asked.
“Probably an experiment went wrong. I heard stories of it happening.” at least in fictional works.
We soon arrived at the spectator seats. The room was burnt to a crisp, the walls were completely black. The scorch marks went all the way to the bottom of the stairs and ash covered the floor. Whatever made this mess, it made sure everyone watching was turned into dust.
“It was furious about what they did to it, is that what you mean?” said Lilia.
“And it’s somewhere out there, let’s hope we won’t ever run into each other.”
Sector twenty one, the laboratory ruins, LiliaWhat happened in this laboratory can’t be described easily. When I first found this person, original human sample 007, I realized something that disregarded all laws and morals happened in that institution.Experiments on the genetics of any sentient species is strictly prohibited by the interplanetary law, so unless it’s to find a cure for an illness that might cause extinction every race that is part of the Union is strictly prohibited from tempering with genetics. The law was signed by the majority of the members thousands of years ago as a result of the will of each race to preserve the purity of its blood, stop mutations from happening and to stop the manufacturing of biological weaponry. As a result of that exact law a number of legislations of the same purpose appeared on ea
Sector twenty one, planet Gorgola, the laboratory ruins, Lilia. We finished investigating the burned room. Although I say investigate, all we did was stand there and look at the scorched walls and the ash on the ground. It looked like it has been a while since it happened. We couldn’t confirm whether whoever, or whatever caused the hole downstairs came up here, but after a while O.H.S 007 started explaining a hypothesis he came up with.“Looking back at what little we know, I’m eighty percent sure the guy missing from the original human samples is the one responsible for this.” He said “He burned all the scientists watching the experiment that’s being conducted on him then fled by creating that hole. Since there are no weapons capable of this level of destruction among those we found in the arsenal I have a feeling that the e
“What’s wrong?” I asked, taking a step back as well. “This thing is still functional!!” Seven shouted. A second later a huge metallic hand struck the place he was standing in. If he hadn’t been fast enough in dodging it he would have been laying flat in the crater that formed there. The mechanic doll was rather slow, probably because of the lack of maintenance, but the force which it struck the floor with shouldn’t be taken lightly. A direct hit could cause severe damage. For humans, at least. It’s dangerous, but nothing I can’t handle. “Hey! Would you like me to take care of it? Or do you want to fight it on your own?” This might be a good chance to see what he’s capable of. From what he said before, Seven
Sector twenty one, planet Gorgola, Lilia’s space craft. The night had fallen by the time we got back to the camp, but we had no power to look up and see the enchanting sight of the aurora lights.Lilia was stressed out from what happened earlier, and who would blame her. She thought the only other person on this whole godforsaken planet was going to die and that she would be left all alone once again. Her eyes were full of tears as she smacked me with the flat part of her spear, saying “DON’T SCARE ME LIKE THAT!!!!” with an angry tone.Seeing the extraordinarily beautiful Lilia act in such a cute -although a bit violent- way made my heart skip a beat. Having any girl that would cry for you is a blessing, especially if she is as cute as Lilia.I smiled internally as I remember her face at that time: her teary eyes, her blushi
When I came out of the shower I noticed that Lilia had prepared another bed just like mine on the opposite side of the room. Both seem to be a built-in feature as you can put them away simply by pressing them into the wall once you’re done. The blankets and pillows were different though. It seems Lilia intends on sleeping in her bed instead of the front seat this time. The shirt and shorts were probably her pajamas.I took that as a sign of her trust in me growing. Of course I’m still far from gaining any affection points, but I’m still happy I’m making a little progress.Later that night my deep sleep was cut short. There was no reason for it but even though my eyes felt heavy I couldn’t go back to the dreamland. The night was still young and the aurora lights
Sector twenty one, planet Gorgola, Lilia’s space craft, Lilia.“Ya~wn…”It’s been so long since the last time I had a good night of sleep. Ever since I got trapped here, two to three hours became my usual. Five when the day was going my way. However today seems somewhat different.Judging by the light coming in from the front glass I would guess the sun was up for sometime now. I have been in bed more than eight hours for the first time in my life, and I don’t feel like leaving so I slowly descend back into the comfort of my pillow.“That’s strange… my comfy pillow isn’t comfy anymore.” I murmured to myself, my throat feeling dry.I look at the not so comfy pillow, the view was blurry but cleared soon enough. The not so comfy pillow had turne
Sector twenty one, planet Gorgola, Lilia’s spaceship, Seven. We decided to postpone the ruin/laboratory exploration for today. Lilia blamed it on me, saying it was because of me refusing to wake up until past noon. She on the other hand got up early in the morning like usual, did what she usually does and “definitely didn’t sleep in!” like I did. She was too focused on that part.In her voice I felt a hidden intent telling me not to mention anything about yesterday, refusing meant my life would be in danger. It’s not like she would really kill me but it’s still possible for It to happen by accident so I better keep my mouth shut.“What are you doing?”“Hm? Ah, I’m trying to shave this beard, it’s been getting on my nerve for some time now.”I heated some
Sector twenty one, planet Gorgola, Lilia’s spaceship, Seven.Surprisingly I didn’t appreciate the idea of sitting around doing nothing so I went and did the usual exercises. Some sit-ups, some push ups, some running and so on. During this little physical test I learned that I could jump at least five meters in the air. This confirms that what happened with the colossus wasn’t just a huge adrenaline boost I got from staring death in the eyes. Then there is the other thing. How I took that laser beam head on with no scratch left on me. It’s almost as if it didn’t reach my body at all, being met with an invisible wall like aura.As curious as I might be though I won’t be shooting myself any time soon. Learning what all of that was can wait till I'm sure it's safe. The dangerous stuff aside, I was wondering if I'm ca
