Chapter twenty seven

Inside the not-so-bright office, Gunther kept going through lots of papers, not knowing that something that would shatter his world had happened just a few months after reuniting with his dad.

Meanwhile, Jane, who was on the phone, struggled with having to share some really sad news. The way she talked, which is usually full of energy, now sounded shaky because of the heavy information she had to share.

"Hey Gunther, how are you doing?" Jane said in a relaxed way, trying not to make things seem too serious. She had heard about Gunther's dad passing away at 57, and even though she was a bit curious about how he was coping, she didn't want to bring up the sad news too directly.

"I'm just piling up some documents," Gunther replied, his tone surprisingly composed.

He was deep into the paperwork, totally focused, using it as a way to briefly avoid what was about to happen in real life.
