Brendan only had two pairs of jeans. He grabbed one and a clean blue t-shirt and he put them on, then he left his room. Samantha had promised to bring the money back in that afternoon so he went to check in the attic.

The money was there, arranged in neat one hundred gem piles but he never heard anyone knock though. Ignoring this, he took one two hundred gem note from one of the piles and left the house.

He passed by a flower shop and bought a bouquet of flowers. So many drawback thoughts were telling him that going to Samantha’s house was a very bad idea. Regardless of these thoughts, he rang the bell gate anyway. A few seconds after he had rung the bell, two big pit-bulldogs rushed towards the gate, barking mad at him. Both were the same size but one was brown and the other was black. He did not remember seeing them the last time he was there.

Soon enough, the front door of the mansion opened. Samantha came out jogging. ‘Killer! Lieutenant! Back to you

‘I’ve imposed enough, Sam,’ he said getting up.‘Just one, ninety-minute movie? It’s not imposing, is it, dad?’ She turned to her father for backup.Mr. Patricks stood up. ‘You two love birds do whatever you want. I’m going to bed.’ His expression of grief and sorrow had suddenly disappeared and this relieved Brendan. Mr. Patricks left the dining room and headed for the stairs.Samantha grabbed Brendan by the wrist and pulled him towards the living room; ‘Come on…It’s only one wittle movie,’ she forcibly dragged him along. She pulled him along the passage of the house then turned left and after a short walk, they entered the living room.Above the fireplace was a giant flat screen TV. This was the first object he noticed. To the left of the TV, hanging like a Picasso masterpiece on the wall, was a giant portrait of Samantha’s entire family. Fred looked innocent in this portrait.

‘Why don’t they take you seriously about Fred? he asked her after she switched off the TV.‘They just think it’s too ridiculous and besides that, they know how much I’ve missed Fred so they basically think I’m delusional. He sighed, ‘I think it was great.’‘I know, right?’ she grinned, ‘I always cry when I watch it alone.’ She began rocking back and forth on her seat.‘Samantha..?’ he began after an awkward moment of silence.‘Yes..?’&lsq

When he was about to exit the living room she called him back and he turned around.‘So…does this mean we’re..?’ she looked hopeful, her head looming over the couch.‘Yes, it means we’re friends now,’ he finished her statement. She gr

When nightfall came, Brendan put on his balaclava and used his super speed to get to the police station. He tore the fence apart easily as one would a piece of thread then he rushed to the back of the building. The police station was a small building with a verandah in the front. There was not much grass surrounding the building. The porch lights had already been lit. One of the windows was slightly closed but not locked.Brendan slowly and silently opened it and pulled apart the burglar bars then climbed in through the window. The police station was where the prisoners were detained while awaiting trial. There was a corridor in-between the building and to the right were five prison cells. He kept walking, glancing in the prison cells for the Finch. Four of the cells were empty until he got to the fifth one which was also the last prison cell. A woman was sitting on her bed wearing inmate clothes. They were black overalls. Black was the color of overalls worn by pris

Brendan was still pondering over what Thomas…or, Black Ice had said; about how these people would never be grateful towards anything he would do for them. How could he even help such an ungrateful people? He looked back at Miss Putin who was fighting harder to break free from the ice on her throat but the effort was only fruitless. He walked towards her and she tried all the more to break free. She opened her mouth to scream but Brendan covered it with his hand and her scream was only muffled. With his other hand he pulled apart the ice which had been constricting her throat. The pieces of the ice scattered onto the ground, then he finally released his hold on her mouth. When she had been freed, Miss Putin rubbed her throat as if she was touching it for the first time. With her eyes fixed on Brendan, she began to move away from him with her back against the wall as if the wall was a human magnet. As soon as she was a short distance away from him, she put her l

‘Yes, Brendan? she responded, having recognized his voice. Her face was absorbed in the pop quiz papers she was marking. She was marking with such amazing speed, as if she was only comparing the answers with the names of the students.‘Do you happen to have the book, “MAGIC AND SCIENCE” with you?’She paused for a while as if trying to process his question. She finally said, ‘That book been boycotted by mayor. The principal told me to burn it immediately.’‘I just want to use it for a Science project.’She placed her chin in her palm and focused her gaze on her desk now looking deep in thought, then after a while, she jerked her gaze from her desk and turned it to him. She pulled her chair away from her desk and opened a drawer beneath it and took out a huge and heavy-looking hard covered book with the title, “MAGIC AND SCIENCE” at the very top. She placed the book in his outstretched hands. ‘Make it quick. If I seen giving you this book then I would be in big trouble an

His eyes were completely black in color, smoke spiraling inside them like a fog, like there was a darkness that had resurrected him from his grave.‘How can this be?!’ The Finch walked towards him with her eyes focused on him in astonishment. The Finch however, was in hot pursuit.‘Accept death like your best friend…just like you did before, you scum!’ she shouted from behind him.As he zigzagged around buildings, he managed to throw a hesitant but quick and brief glance over his shoulder and he saw that her fist was still covered in the green flames and she was clearly catching up to him. He ran up the walls of a multi-storey building, thinking this would at least shake her off his tail, but he was wrong. In the split-second that he had reached halfway up the building, he jumped in a backward flip so that when the Finch was below him he went for her throat with his right hand.
