Chapter 14: Recovery

Darwin was bedridden for 3 days while Leo took care of him.

“When will you wake up?” Leo murmured as he sat on a chair facing Darwin, staring at him.

Leo sighed, as he made an attempt to stand up.

“And where do you think you’re going?” Darwin spoke, his voice chopped.

Leo’s eyes began to tear up. He was filled with joy but at the same time, relief.

“I thought that you won’t wake up,” he said, drawing his nose.

Darwin chuckled.

“What do you take me for? I’ve gone through worse,” he said, sitting up right on the bed.

The towel fell from his face and Leo placed it in a bucket.

“I know but still. I won’t be able to live knowing that a lot of people have died protecting me,” he said.

“You don’t have to feel that way,” Darwin replied. “Something this small can’t kill me.”

Leo smiled warmly, as he stared at Darwin.

“What’s taking so lo-” Varrick said, but he took a pause after seeing Darwin awake. “I can see that you’re finally awake, after taking a very long nap. You have a load of work waiting for you though.”

“But he just-”

“Yeah, yeah. I know. At least I’ve gotten some rest that I DESERVE,” Darwin responded, interrupting Leo.

Leo did not know what to say as he saw the two argue like cat and dog.

After a few minutes, Varrick sighed and he walked towards the door.

“Get some more rest and don’t make us worry so much again,” he said, as he gazed slighlty at Darwin.

Darwin smiled and nodded his head as Varrick walked out of the room.

Leo was pleased to see the relationship that the two share. It made him happy.

“Master Darwin,” Leo called.

“Mmhhm, what’s wrong?” asked Darwin, as he pushed his attention towards Leo.

“What did Lapo whisper to you when he held me in bondage?”asked Leo as he sat next to Darwin.

Darwin did not mutter a word. After a few seconds, he leaned to Leo’s ear.

“He said he needed you as a sacrfice,” he whispered.

“That’s not true,” Leo quickly stood up.

Darwin began to laugh, looking at the expression that Leo had on his face.

“He whispered it because he wanted only me to know and it will remain that way,” Darwin spoke. “For now, all you have to do is to perfect and master your powers, now that the second seal from your sealed orb has been removed.

“I’ve been training for the last three days. I can now manipulate three elements now, fire, water and wind. I woulds still need your guidance,” Leo replied.

“Alright then, continue with the basic sword training. I will give you a break down of everything you need to know about the three magic elements and how you can perfect it,” Darwin responded.

Leo nodded in agreement as he walked out of the room.

“I’m going for my training,” he rose his voice after leaving the room.

“Sure,” Darwin said, giggling at Leo’s innocence.

After Leo had left, a lot of thoughts ran through Darwin’s head. The words of Lapo ran through his head. Lapo had told him about the main goal of the fangs of chaos. That is, to revive the dragon king so that he could reclaimed the world.

“We can’t let that happen or else, the world would be doomed,” murmured Darwin.

“Are you going crazy or did you hit your head too hard?” Varrick said, popping out of nowhere.

“And when did you enter into the room?” asked Darwin as he pulled out a cigarret from his side drawer.

He lighted it and he blew the first smoke.

“The Fang of Chaos,” said Darwin.

“Thought as much. Leo was targeted again, wasn’t he?” Varrick asked.

Darwin faced him and gave him a positive nod.

“It’s as we feared. They want to revive the dragon king and destroy Ivandale or the world entirely,” he replied.

“What exactly happened in that dungeon?” Varrick questioned, trying to understand the situation.

Darwin stopped smoking his cigarette and explained everything that had happened to Varrick. From the sudden attack of goblins, who were overthrowned by Lapo and how Lapo and his men started a fight. To Leo defeating some of Lapo’s men and lastly to how Leo was able to break the second seal of his sealed magic core.

“Wow. Isn’t this amusing?” Varrick repsonded, after listening to Darwin’s detailed explanation.

“Knowing that trying to exceed his limit helps to break off the seals set by Abigail is getting us a step closer to helping him unlock his powers,” Darwin said.

“That’s true. We’re atleast a step closer to helping him achieve his goal,” Varrick replied. “But I think the best option is to take him to Ivandale.”

“Ivandale? Is that not where his mother, Abigail was killed? It has just been four months. The wounds which have been trying to heal and forget will resurface,” Darwin raised his voice.

Varrick sighed deeply and stared at him for a while.

“This is the only way he can grow. He needs to overcome his pain. He needs to succumb to sorrow. It is that pain that will make him stronger,” Varrick defended, trying to make Darwin see reasons with him.

Taking Leo to Ivandale was a rather good idea but Darwin thought it would make him more exposed to the Fang of Chaos.

“I really don’t think it’s a good idea to take him to Ivandale. There are a lot of evil forces that are attracted to the demon king’s blood apart from the Fang of Chaos. Let’s just train him here,” Darwin persisted, not wielding to Varrick.

“Scarlet Magic High School, let’s enroll him there,” Varrick suggested, leaving Darwin in shock.

It was an unexpected suggestion.
