Leveling up in an apocalypse

Infected on the ship

People rushing into the large ship, pushing and harming themselves just to get in. Family forsaking their loved ones just to get on the ship that promosied them safety.

"It's filled up!" One of the soldier shouted,scanning the ship and the people inside. Almost one thousand people managed to get in,if they should allow more in,they were afraid the ship might sink.

"Alright,let's go!" Another soldier alrted the sailor and slowly,the ship began to move.

The people that were left behind,pleaded and begged but there was nothing that could be done. They had to sirvive alone.

Everyone was stationed to sit in a specific way,to hinder the ship from sinking. Where Kadori sat down quietly,a guy was seated right beside him. The guy's face was turned down and his body was vibrating slightly.

Kadori could feel the vibration coming from the boy but he chose to ignore it and mind his business.

Not only did the vibration got faster,but the boy was begining to sweat profousley. Kadori shifted his gaze to the boy,noticing the boy's skin was becoming whiter.

"Are you okay?" Kadori asked softly,"Were you bitten?"

After few seconds,the boy returned back to normal state and he raised up his head,revealing his blonde hair that was now brown due to the chaos they encountered a while ago,his jawline were sharp and his face was what every girl would crave for,"I am okay,i am just in a bad mood. I just watched my whole family die." The boy spoke in a sad tone,wiping tears off his eyes with his brown long sleeves.

Hearing the boy's explanation,Kadori understood what the boy was passing through was similar to his. The anger and pain he felt inside,waiting for who or what to unleash it upon was consuming him.

"What about you,where is your family?" The boy asked,glancing around Kadori to see if his parents were beside him.

"They are gone." Kadori replied,his fist clenched real hard anytime he remembers his mother's face and what she turned into before she died. She didn't even get the chance to die a normal death,instead,she would run around as a vicious creature till God knows when.

"I am sorry about that." The boy said his condolence.

"I am sorry for your loss also." Kadori replied.

"I'm Bjorn by the way." Bjorn introduced,his right arm stretched out for a handshake.

"Kadori." Kadori replied,shaking Bjorn's hand. Before Kadori let go of Bjorn's arm,he spotted what looked like a red bite mark on his wrist and black veins were begining to form around it.

"What is that?" Kadori inquired,lifting up Bjorn's arm to take a closer look. Kadori was hundred percent sure that the bite was gotten from those creatures,and with the way Bjorn was acting up earlier,he knew he was turning.

Bjorn quickly pulled his arm away from Kadori and pulled down his sleeves to cover up the wound,"It's non of your business." Bjorn said,a nervous expression was evident on his face.

"Are you infected?" Kadori demanded,he knew what would happen if an infected person was on the ship. The disease would spread like wild fire among everyone until there are no survivours.

"No i am not infected!" Bjorn snapped,his voice low yet sharp.

"Then where did you get that injury?" Kadori asked,trying to pull Bjorn's sleeve up but his hand got held by Bjorn.

"Knock it off man,i said i am not infected!" Bjorn said in a pissed off tone.

"Then tell me where you got the bite m.."

Ahhhhhh!!

A loud scream reverberated through the ship,piercing into everyone's ear and making them turn to see the reason for the shout.

Among the crowd of people,a lady's neck was currently getting chewed on by a guy. The guy's skin were now as white as snow and black veins filled his body.

The lady tried to fight her way free,but the guy's strength was too much for her.

Everyone around the lady quickly moved away from them in fear,not bothering to try and save her. Everyone was scared that if they were to stepin,they might end up getting bitten. Besides what use is their help since the lady was already bitten.

After chewing on the lady's neck,he released her,making her lifeless body drop to the floor.

The whole crowd gasp as the creature shifted his gaze to them,flesh hanging on it's mouth and blood dripping down.

"Everyone get back!" A brave fellow ordred in a confident tone,drawing out his mighty blade and charged forward towards the creature. Seeing who was stepping up to save them,Kadori let out a sigh of relief. It was Uncle Duncan.

If it was just a random villager or soldier,then there was a possibility that the soldier or villager would get infected before taking down the creature. But the case was different with Uncle Duncan.

Uncle Duncan was one of the higher ranked soldier in the village,everyone respected him because of his skillfulness in swordsmanship.

Charging forward towards the creature,Uncle Duncan gripped his large blade with his two arms. When he was in striking distance,the creature swung out it's claws,swerving to the right,Uncle Duncan dodged the strike easily.

Uncle Duncan didn't stop there,after succesfully dodging the claws,he swung out his huge blade,taking the creature's head clean off.

A loud thudding sound was heard as the head landed on the wooden floor of the ship,followed by splatter of black blood.

Everyone glanced at Uncle Duncan in amazement and began to shower him with appreciation.

Uncle Duncan didn't pay heed to what they were saying,he was busy wiping the black blood off his blade and his mind was somewhere else.

'If an infected person was able to get on the ship without being noticed,how are we sure if there aren't more of them on this ship?' Uncle Duncan pondered
