006: Misunderstanding

The chauffeur left the car just then to go and have a word with the cops. Levi looked at Brooklyn's face.

Now that she wasn't all flustered like earlier, she actually looked like a serene beauty with maybe a bit of haughtiness in her. Well, she's one of the Hernandez.

Brooklyn's eyes narrowed when she saw him staring at her. This stranger isn't having weird thoughts, is he?

But Levi shook his head, "I'm Levi. You don't have to worry about repaying me. I just did what I thought would help."

Brooklyn was confused. Men would kill to have her and yet she was here asking this stranger what he wanted in repayment of his help but he's insisting on nothing.

Doesn't he know who she is?

"Young mistress," The chauffeur suddenly returned with a worried look.

"I don't know how your father found out but he seems to have gotten some news that you stood Larry up. He is enraged and demands you return home at this instant."

Levi watched as Brooklyn's face darkened with anger. He wonders who this Larry is as his name has been mentioned so many times.

But he shrugged off the thought. It wasn't his business. All he wanted was to get out of the car. The cops were leaving and he had to deal with the thugs first. Then he will head to the sanatorium.

If he's lucky, they might not have closed the doors for the day and he would have a roof over his head... at least for tonight.

"Mr Levi," Brooklyn called him just as he touched the door knob. He turned back to see an alluring look on her face. She even bit her lips nervously.

"I need your help."

Not only Levi, even the chauffeur was confused. What?

"Would you please come home with me tonight?"

"What?" Levi and the chauffeur exclaimed in unison. The chauffeur was embarrassed by his own reaction when Brooklyn shot him a cold look.

She turned and gave Levi a little smile. "Mr Levi, it's not what you are thinking. Actually, my grandmother has been critically ill for a long time and the doctors seem unable to rescue her. You helped me just now. Would you be able to save her too?"

Levi heaved a sigh of relief secretly. For a second, he thought she was asking him to go home with her and pretend— Wait... What the heck was he thinking?

Lost in his thoughts, he didn't notice the chauffeur exchanging questioning gazes with Brooklyn.

"Mr Levi, please."

Brooklyn Hernandez has never pleaded with anyone but she was willing to lower her pride to save her grandmother.

"Fine," Levi nodded. "But I won't promise anything."

"Don't worry. I won't hold you to it," She assured. To the chauffeur, she instructed, "Drive to the nearby mall that's still open. Mr Levi needs to get changed. He must be feeling uncomfortable in those soiled clothes."

Levi wanted to protest but the chauffeur already stepped on the gas so he could only swallow his words and turn to look out of the window.

He didn't notice Brooklyn peeking at him. When she saw he wasn't looking, she brought out her expensive mobile phone and sent a message to someone.

[I found a husband on the streets]

Levi hadn't recovered from how soft and comfortable the materials of the designer clothes on his body were when they arrived at the Hernandez family mansion.

His eyes lit up seeing the magnificent mansion and the servants everywhere. He even watched as a butler handled Brooklyn's coat and bag.

"So this is what it means to be rich," His eyes darted around as he followed Brooklyn into the house.

They were almost in the living room when a youth walked up to Brooklyn.

He had some of her physical features like the same hair color, same skin color and eyes so it wasn't difficult to decipher he was either her sibling or a relative.

"Sister," He held Brooklyn's hands worriedly.

"That prick Larry called father a while ago ranting that you stood him up again but I know he was lying because I personally watched the footage of the restaurant and saw you walk in. I'm glad you are okay."

"Were you stalking me?" Brooklyn's eyes narrowed in displeasure as she shook his hand off.

"Of course not sister. I was just worried Larry might do something to you and— Huh? Who's this?"

He finally noticed Levi. But before anyone could say anything, an elderly couple walked in followed by an old man who was depending on the use of a walking stick.

"Brooke! You are finally home," The elderly woman who was dressed in high quality material coupled with expensive jewelry adorning her body rushed forward with apparent concern.

Although she looked like she was worried about Brooklyn, Levi was quick to notice the surprised glint hidden in her eyes as she looked at Brooklyn.

He thought of the fact that the latter had been drugged with EM08... Who is this woman?

"Don't touch me, Yolanda. Save your fake sympathy. It will only work on my father," Brooklyn's harsh tone piqued Levi's curiosity.

"Brooke!" The elderly man Levi now assumed to be Brooklyn's father yelled. "You unfilial child! Do you know how much you have caused me tonight?"

"You are going to get engaged to Larry Rockefeller soon and yet you have the nerve to stand him up over and over again. How do you want the Rockefellers to see us?"

Levi arched his brow. Larry Rockefeller? One of the top wealthiest and pompous heirs in the city. Simply to say, every woman's dream man. But apparently, not Brooklyn's.

'What the heck is going on?' Levi mused. In just one night, he encountered two prominent families in the city.

Yolanda smiled as she watched her husband scolding his daughter, having completely misunderstood the situation even though that wasn't exactly what happened at the restaurant.

She suddenly notices Levi and wonders who he is. However a thought flickers in her head and she gasped,

"Brooklyn, you brought a man home! Is he the reason why you go against your father's agreement to get you engaged to Larry every time?"

Everyone's attention turned to Levi. He was uncomfortable to suddenly be thrown into the limelight for a wrong reason and tries to explain,

"No, you've got it wrong. I—"

But Brooklyn walked to him and held his arm intimately. She looked at her father and told him, "Yes, it's because of him. Father, I can't marry Larry because I already have someone I want to marry."
