“I want to stay, but I should leave. It's the right thing to do,” Winnie said as they separated.

“Bullshit! I won't allow you to go out at this time of the night. You should sleep here tonight.”

She was suddenly shy. Twisting her hands, she turned her head to the side. “Are you sure that's okay? I don't want to inconvenience you.”

“You need to stop acting weird, Winnie. Nothing is going to change between us. You're making me feel horrible.”

“Please don't—” she reached out to touch him, but paused in realization. “I'm doing too much.” She bit her lips, the self-awareness hitting her hard.

“You can sleep on the bed. I'll sleep on the couch in the living room.”

“Why?” She asked before he could take a step.

As he brought his eyes back to her, he found her looking around.

“What do you mean why?”

“We've shared a bed before, Elijah. If truly you're okay with me, there's no reason we can't again.”

“Uhmm you forgot the circumstances of that night.”
