Elijah drove into his compound and parked the car.

As he alighted from it, he felt a stiffness in the air.

He whipped his head around, but there was nothing to be seen.

It was still bright outside. Surely, no one would be stupid enough to attack him in broad daylight.

However, as he took a step forward, he felt a slap cut across his face.

Holding his cheeks, he whirled to see three big men standing behind him.

“We have a message for you,” they said and began swinging.

Elijah was caught off guard at first, but when it dawned on him that he was being attacked, he managed to wiggle his way out of their hold.

He held his face, feeling the spots were punches after punches had landed.

“Cowards!” He spat on the ground.

“We'll see about that.”

They dashed forward all at the same time. He quickly bent to the ground, and flung each of them behind him, one after the other.

As he turned, one was already up, ready to swing at him with his fist.

He caught the fist in his palm, cracking its knuckles

Darius whipped his head around and saw Lexington.“I was wondering how long until you show up. You ran to Quantum City,” he laughed.“Who said anything about running? I came to Quantum because that's what I wanted to do,” Lexington fired back.“Is that what you tell everyone that asks you? Then again, you've always considered yourself better than others. I can see you haven't gotten out of your high horse that is coated with lies. Good for you.”“What are you doing in Quantum, Darius?”“You and I know that it was a given that I'd come sooner or later. Everything I want is here. The power, and the woman.”“What woman?” Elijah asked.Darius chuckled. “Yeah, I heard you have her heart. You're a lucky chap, Elijah. You've managed to be the god of war, one of the most important positions in godhood, get a ring I hear works wonders, and the heart of the girl that carries the blood of immortality. I actually envy you,” he said.“I hope for your sake, you're not talking about Winnie,” Elijah

“I think I need to get a new house,” Elijah muttered.Asher pacing back and forth, paused.. “I think that's the least of our problems right now. There's a god out there that is strong enough to freeze another god's power. Hello? Am I the only one bothered about that?”“Direct that question to Lexington. You seem to know so much. Who exactly are you?” Elijah asked. They had gathered in the living room after Darius left.Elijah still felt like shit. His entire body hurt. Asher was pissed. His pride had been wounded and he needed to get even to feel soothed. For Lexington, he was fed up. He had left his City to move away from the supernaturals. It seemed like they were slowly crippling into Quantum City which had at least been the same City for a while.“I need everyone to calm down. At least we know what Darius wants.”“Oh he's not going to get anything,” Elijah countered.“I don't care what he gets or doesn't get, I just want him dead.”“You're speaking from a place of pride.”“And so!

“Cleo?” Elijah ran to her and pulled her into a hug.“Elijah,” her body relaxed as she relaxed into his embrace. “I can't believe how much I missed you,” she said as they pulled away.“But you just called not too long ago to tell me you found–” his voice trailed as his eyes went beside her.“Uhmm yeah. When I found him, he knew I was supposed to find him. We were on our way back when he decided he was too tired to continue in the car. Opened my eyes, and we were in Quantum City.”“Oh, so telepathy?”The god ignored everyone who was speaking and stepped forward. He didn't stop until he was in front of Lexington. As he sized him up, Lexington's eyes lifted in curiosity.“God of the sea,” he finally spoke. His voice was just like Elijah had heard in his vision. Everything felt so real at that moment. He pinched himself and realized it was real. “Calm like the sea. Good for you.”He left him and walked over to Asher who spotted a smirk on his face. “Deceit!” He suddenly declared.“You've

“Wow. Let me guess. Gods went crazy again. That would explain this,” Cleo said, looking around.“Yep. It was Darius. But let's not talk about him now.”“Call the god of arts and craft. He'll be able to fix your door, and then you can seal it with your strength. No one would be able to break it down, anymore.”“Uhmmm, that would be a little bit complicated,” Elijah said.“Yeah. We don't exactly know where all the gods are. But wait, isn't the art and crafts god the one that took Winnie the other time?” She turned to Elijah. “I wasn't around, but I can remember us speaking the morning after you found her.”“Yeah, he is.”“Good, so call him.”“I can't.”“Why?” Henry asked, confused.“He's no more.”“He's dead?”“You killed him?!Henry and Cleo both asked at the same time.“I didn't kill him. I just sent him to another plane.”“You did what? The same thing the king of the underworld did to me? How could you do that? Don't you know there's usually an offset of balance when you do something

The door opened, and Elijah went in with Cleo.“Elijah? Is everything fine? I heard so many noises,” the nurse ranted as soon as they stepped in.“Everything's fine.” Elijah tried to calm her as Cleo moved closer to his unconscious mother. “Who is—” her words trailed as she fully saw Cleo. “Uhmm, that's the girl that came in the other day, go see your mother with Tobias.”“That's her,” Elijah said.“Oh.”Cleo smiled as she watched the unconscious woman. She wondered if Elijah could feel her fading away. If he did, he acted very calmly about it.That was why she couldn't afford to express sadness. She believed in him. He was going to piece it together before her lifeline on earth was exhausted. She grabbed her hand and kissed it. In the old days, they said the kiss of the beauty goddess prompted good health. She hoped that it could still be applied now.Satisfied with everything she had seen and done, she turned around to face the fidgeting nurse. “Thank you for taking care of her. No

Colin Trust ended the call and returned his attention to his guest. “I just talked to Elijah. I'm sure he was shocked I called him.”“What did he say?” Dr Hill asked.“After you tell me what the deal with you and Elijah is.”The doctor sighed. He didn't believe he would ever ask Colin for help. But it was looking like he had lost his grip on Elijah. His connection to him was based on the fact he knew the last two herbs that were needed. That information he planned on giving out in exchange for something else. Now that it looked like he had lost that leverage, he was desperate.“Fine, I'll tell you,” he leaned forward in his chair, as Colin took one across him. “His mother is still very much alive. Sure she was in the building when it caught fire, but she managed to escape. At least up until just behind the building.”“What do you mean she escaped?” Colin's forehead creased as he regarded the doctor.“I thought so before. But then I realized she was simply not the kind of woman to leav

“Where are you?” Elijah asked as he entered the restaurant. With the phone tucked in his ear, he looked around the tables.“The last corner,” Rhonda said.He looked in that direction and saw a hand wave. “Gotcha.”Ending the call, he walked through the path, until he got to the last table where Rhonda was seated, waiting for him. There was no smile on her face as she nudged her face in acknowledgment of his presence. “You're here.”“I am,” he said, sliding into a seat. “You look beautiful.”“Thanks.”She was still mad, he could see. He wished there was a way he could make her smile again. If only he hadn't arrived with more bad news. But it was time she learned the truth.“How have you been?” He asked. His question brought back the memories of that night. Everything about it had pissed her off. In the end, she hadn't been able to enjoy the party her sister worked so hard to organize.Instead, she had buried herself in work. She was beginning to notice some patterns in the financial re

“Why won't you leave Rhonda alone?” Elijah questioned Asher who was munching on Rhonda's leftovers.“Because I like her?”“Why? Why do you like her? You've never liked anyone other than yourself. Your so called likeness for her would be detrimental to her because of how many people you've wronged. They'd target her to get to you, and you know it.”“Is that why you push Winnie away?” He casually asked.“What does Winnie have to do with our discussion?”“Because it's obvious you like her but you're too much of a coward to apply proper pressure to get what you want.” He shoved a chip into his mouth, and smiled sinisterly.“You're sick in the head, Asher. Leave Rhonda alone.”“I won't. I like her. Have always, and always will.”“No. You know what? I think you're going after her to piss me off. Be warned, Asher, you have nothing in common with her. She'll never accept you!” He rose to his feet, seething.“You pop blood vessels for no damn reason. Calm down, and let's talk about more import

“Leave me alone. Just go away,” Elijah muttered over and over again, as he scraped the walls of his cell with his fingers. It had gotten dark, and everytime it was dark, the voices got louder and more menacing.“Elijah?!” The most off-putting of all the voices sounded. He knew who he belonged to, but he couldn't quite place it. His mind was too disorganised.“Leave me alone,” he begged.“Why? You don't want to be reminded of your sins? I thought you were a self righteous prick!”“I didn't do it,” he shook his head continuously. “I didn't. An accident. She did it. She caused it.”Darius laughed. “But no one that matters knows. In the papers, you're a murderer. You need to see the paper stands, and the news on the city's projector screens. They're all carrying your face and your crime. Maybe you should have publicised your healing abilities. If you had, the, would have been more inclined to support you.” he laughed maniacally.“I'm innocent. The more he tried to keep them away, the more they laughed and mocked him.“Do you know how many people you killed?” Another baritone voice began in a singsong tone.“Not one,” one shrieked.“Not even two,” another thundered.“Not five either,” a third chirped.“So many!” The first voice screamed and broke into a feat of laughter.“No, I didn't mean to. It was a mistake. A setup. Please. Mercy!” He begged, and cried.“No, you did! You put on the ring when you knew how blood thirsty it was. You wanted this. Craved it, because deep down, you're truly a monster!”“No I'm not!” He screamed back.“Yes you are!”“No I'm not!”“Y

They were driving along the highway when Avery turned on the radio and began to sing along to the music being played.“You haven't changed that much,” he said, as she sang.Despite the volume turned all the way up, she could hear him clearly.“It's the curse of being a star, my darling.” She continued singing loudly, pulling a head shake out of his head.He didn't care what she chose to do. But if you want to go the badass route, then we can just walk in.”“What way?” Elijah asked, his trouble sensing tingling.“With your tongue shoved down my throat. They'd think we're in heat and just want to make love. Without any questions asked, they would open the door and let us in.”“No!” He said, immediately she was done.“Okay, Mr God. Chill with the outburst. It was only a suggestion. It's either that, or we go in together. If we do, there's a chance one of them might recognize you and report back to Colin. Are you willing to risk that?”“I'm already here. I don't care if anyone recognizes me or not. All I want to do is get in there, take the herb, and get out.”“You say it like it's that easy,” she said, withdrawing her legs from the dashboard. “Doesn't it take a whole process? Or are you willing to risk the ring working against you?”“The ring feeds on vi

But I’m bored and down for anything, so let’s do it.” Avery shrugged. “That’s the spirit!” she pumped her fist, then turned to Elijah. “You?” she asked, eyeing him gently as she waited for his response.“Do I have a choice?”“No!” Both Avery and Winnie screamed in unison.“Fine.” He threw his hands into the air in surrender.
