Chapter 256

“Where are you?” Elijah asked as he entered the restaurant. With the phone tucked in his ear, he looked around the tables.

“The last corner,” Rhonda said.

He looked in that direction and saw a hand wave. “Gotcha.”

Ending the call, he walked through the path, until he got to the last table where Rhonda was seated, waiting for him.

There was no smile on her face as she nudged her face in acknowledgment of his presence. “You're here.”

“I am,” he said, sliding into a seat. “You look beautiful.”

“Thanks.”

She was still mad, he could see. He wished there was a way he could make her smile again. If only he hadn't arrived with more bad news. But it was time she learned the truth.

“How have you been?” He asked.

His question brought back the memories of that night. Everything about it had pissed her off. In the end, she hadn't been able to enjoy the party her sister worked so hard to organize.
