FLASHBACK

There was nothing Rhonda Anderson hated more than science. Not because she didn't appreciate the complexity of the subject. Heck, it was because she knew its complexity, that was why she hated it. For her, business was much more in her lane. She breathed numbers when it came to closing deals.

There was nothing better than the tight gripping handshake that followed a closed deal. So when her grandfather insisted on this precious night, she rode with him to the Crawford laboratory, she was a bit hesitant.

However, she knew she couldn't say no. If she was going to remain in the race to inherit his company, she had to kiss his ass until he was no more. She loved the man greatly, but even she could admit he was a twisted, manipulative man.

It had helped in solidifying his business as one of the biggest in the City, so who was she to complain?

Evening came, and she was ushered to her grandfather's car by one of the guards. He was already seated at the other end when she came

Elijah opened his eyes to an empty, dark room. A sudden wave of dizziness hit him, as he tried to sit up. He grabbed his head, which felt like it was about to split open. He laid still for a while, waiting for the strange reactions to leave. Finally, he felt strengthened enough to try again. This time, he successfully sat up.As he did, he felt a heaviness on his hands. He turned, and squinted. Realizing the source of the discomfort was the drip he was receiving, he ripped it off, feeling free again. "Where the hell am I?" He tested his voice to see if he could actually speak. It echoed through the room. The beeping sound from the monitor was another annoying sound. He walked around the room, searching for a light source. Finally he found one, and flicked the lights on. He blinked so his eyes could adjust to brightness. Looking around, his thoughts were justified. But why was he here?He heard foots shuffling from afar, and walked back to the bed. Just as he sat down, the door pull

Elijah was brought back to reality by the rattling sound coming from the window of the car. He opened his eyes, and instantly felt the rush of a gentle breeze. Every time these flashbacks occurred, he ended up feeling a strange kind of weakness. This time wasn't any different. However, he already had plans for tonight, and nothing was going to stop it. With a determined look on his tired face, he dragged himself out of the car and headed straight into the house. Every step he took felt more difficult than the last, but the plan was simple. No matter what happened tonight, he needed to get Williams Carter on his side. That was his easiest ticket to the executives. He pushed the door to his room open, and the first thing he saw was Snow, staring at him with wagging tails. "Bloody hell," He muttered, too tired to get into an argument. "I thought you had left." He shut the door behind him and went straight to his closet. "You don't seem mad at least," Snow said. "I have more importan

"Welcome to my home, young man." William Carter said, rising to his feet."Please sit down sir." Elijah hurried over to the table."After you." Williams pointed at the empty chair opposite his granddaughter. With William at the head of the table, Elijah, and Winnie were both by his sides. Elijah sat, really liking this view. He could sneak a peek at Winnie because God knows he couldn't take his eyes off her."You were a bit late though," Williams said, finally sitting again."My apologies sir. There was a little hold back." He explained."Hope everything was sorted, or do you need help?" "Grandpa," Winnie warned gently."Thanks for offering, but I sorted everything out already." Elijah smiled. Her heart lurched against her chest. He never smiled this comfortably with her. She was grateful for the presence of her grandad because she was certain to see a more eased side of Elijah."Good." The old man nodded. The food arrived and was quickly served. "Enjoy your meal." Elijah straightened his back. This was his opportunity now. But he wasn't sure how to go about it. Firstly, he didn't want to appear desperate. "I did what I had to do to save a life. I would have done it for anyone. You don't have to pay me back." He said, but in his heart, he waited. Men like Mr Carter didn't like to owe debts. He was banking on that."We're both men. You and I know it's impossible not to show you my gratitude. I don't know if my granddaughter has told you, but I usually don't stop until I get what I want.""I recall her saying something like that." He nodded, sending a glance her way.The pity was nowhere to be found. She was smiling now. Another thing Winnie Carter knew how to do all too well. Her eyes sparkled every time she smiled. He kept ignoring the warning voices in his head. Telling him he was getting too deep into dangerous territories. Just for one night, he wanted to hold on to something. Only for this night. "Good! If you want to think about it,

Elijah walked out of the Carter mansion, feeling on edge. His hands deep in his pockets, folded into a fist, as he walked to his car. "If you want Elijah, I can open up a hospital for you. Your gifts of healing shouldn't go unnoticed." The old man had said, when he went to tell him he was leaving. It wasn't supposed to upset him. To be honest, it was a genuine desire to help. But between his tense conversation with Winnie, and the words of her grandpa, he was taken down a dark hole. A place where he was reminded that with all the powers he possessed, he wasn't able to save his father. Was barely even close to saving his mother. And with that realization came an anger that burned. He needed to let it out, else, it would consume him. With determinated etched in the wrinkled lines that spread across his forehead, he drove out of the mansion, and headed for Crestview medical center. His mind was faraway from the road as he sped to the center. "Elijah!" Crowley called, running after him."What do you want Crowley?" He asked, with his hands on the entrance door."Dr Hill asked me to escort you to his study.""Really? Why'd you have to make a big show out there then?" "You threatened my man.""He attacked me first." Elijah shrugged in defense."Who are you, Elijah?" Crowley's face contorted with confusion. He had never seen someone fight so effortlessly. If he didn't know him as a nobody once married to a rich woman, he would have sworn he was a battle expert. "A nobody," Elijah said, opening the door. The small door gave way to a large room with a staircase demarcating both sides of the room. On the very top step stood Dr Hill, lips curved into a sly smile. "Elijah! Welcome to my home." Elijah took a step in, and then another. "Dr Hill." He said."Please, come with me." The older man said, turning around.Elijah climbed up the stairs, following Dr Hill into a room. The moment he stepped foot into the room, nosta

"I've been watching you for years lay low by the beautiful Rhonda's side while building connections amongst the elites of this city," He said, standing to his feet. "Who do you think saved your precious mother from the fire? Tobias?" He laughed.Elijah still with his back turned to him, presssed his fingers hard against each other. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. There was no way Dr Hill saved his mother. Truthfully, when Tobias had contacted him weeks after the incident about finding his mother's unconscious body behind the building, he had wondered how she got there. They both had. But it was quickly chucked to the side, their focus turning to finding the herbs to cure her. "You're lying." His voice came out more steady than he had expected."What would I gain from doing that?""You expect me to believe you just so magically happened to be around the building when it went up in flames? You rushed in to save my mother? What do you take me for?" He turned around, thick v

Under the scorching heat of the day, a black jeep pulled over the Luxe beach hut. Its doors slid open, and Colin Trust emerged. His hands went into his pockets, as he took a few seconds to soak in the waves. Dressed in all white, with the only other colors on him being his dark shades and jet-black hair, he looked every inch the heartthrob he was. However, the crafty businessman wasn't here for pleasure today. Nathan Luxe had asked to meet here discreetly, and he couldn't deny the fact he was curious to know what the man who almost took over his bank many years ago had to say to him. Regardless of these facts, one couldn't be too trusting of a man like Nathan Luxe.He couldn't help

My mother was dying in the hospital, and I needed your help. I know about everything done to Elijah, so you can't even use that as an excuse. I just needed to talk to someone,” she said, tears in her eyes.Cleo was ready to go off when she turned and saw Laura Anderson. “You're the one that has a crush on my boyfriend,” she said before Tobias could respond.Laura painfully tore her gaze from Tobias, and turned to Cleo. “So you're

“Leave me alone. His mind was too disorganised.“Leave me alone,” he begged.“Why? You don't want to be reminded of your sins? I thought you were a self righteous prick!”“I didn't do it,” he shook his head continuously. “I didn't. An accident. She did it. She caused it.”Darius laughed. “But no one that matters knows. It was a mistake. A setup. Please. Mercy!” He begged, and cried.“No, you did! You put on the ring when you knew how blood thirsty it was. You wanted this. Elijah drove to a stop in front of the Trusts mansion.“There's a way we can play this off without alerting Colin's boys. But if you want to go the badass route, then we can just walk in.”“What way?” Elijah asked, his trouble sensing tingling.“With your tongue shoved down my throat. They'd think we're in heat and just want to make love. Without any questions asked, they would open the door and let us in.”“No!” He said, immediately she was done.“Okay, Mr God. Chill with the outburst. It was only a suggestion. It's either that, or we go in together. If we do, there's a chance one of them might recognize you and report back to Colin. Are you willing to risk that?”“I'm already here. I don't care if anyone recognizes me or not. All I want to do is get in there, take the herb, and get out.”“You say it like it's that easy,” she said, withdrawing her legs from the dashboard. “Doesn't it take a whole process? Or are you willing to risk the ring working against you?”“The ring feeds on vi

“We will have to return to the exhibition one after the other, though. Just follow my lead,” Winnie said.Elijah blinked multiple times as he tried to wrap his mind around Winnie’s enthusiasm. She had the biggest smile on her face, as if she had been waiting for this day all her life.“Are you ready?” she lifted her head, her gaze darting between Elijah and Avery.“I don’t know what exactly you’re trying to do. But I’m bored and down for anything, so let’s do it.” Avery shrugged. “That’s the spirit!” she pumped her fist, then turned to Elijah. “You?” she asked, eyeing him gently as she waited for his response.“Do I have a choice?”“No!” Both Avery and Winnie screamed in unison.“Fine.” He threw his hands into the air in surrender. Colin knows that you’re a god.”“What!” he raised his brow, temporarily startled?“I had to tell him about us, because he pretty much figured out the basics. Anyway, that’s not even the case right now. If you don’t find a way to sneak into the house soon, he’s going to set you up so bad when the time comes, I’m afraid you may not be able to escape the ambush.”He let her words sit in his head for a few minutes. His biggest enemy at the moment was time. By all indications, Colin planned on using the next weekend for his fundraiser. This would make it exactly one week from today. In a way, he could admit Avery was right. He had to move fast if he wanted to thwart C
