Golm Neest - Vietal
32.11.3243
History is full of lies. That can’t be even argued. But people love to do that. Probably they like to be heard, appreciated for their intelligence. Or it is just a necessity we can’t get over it. In history, well, at least in our human history, we have done tribble things. Back on Planet Earth and then here, on Liumira. And we covered it all. Like we weren’t the bad guys at all. Like we needed to defend ourselves.
I always find myself hating history lessons. The teachers were too nationalist and proud of that. Many of them were just bigots. The sheep. The blind obedient species.
Humans…
I think we are a terrible race in the universe. We are like parasites. We consume anything anywhere. And then we try the next target. And yet, we seem to be proud of being humans. This is exactly how a parasite would act.
“In the early times of Golm Neest, the formation of nations wasn’t a subject. People in this world didn’t know exactly a life beyond their planet. We can say that they were more like primitive beings. Living together, getting married, breeding…”
The class stared laughing. So, the teacher paused. Our history teacher Mr. Zeike is one of the most loved teachers in our school. It is because he is a good sample of the obedient people. To be honest, this very class is full of those people. But who cares?
It was just a class, a lesson for me. A mandatory hour I had to take for this term.
“But breeding isn’t that bad!” Laughed Tiali. The scoffed one. The annoying rich boy. He would always try to make fun of people. “It means you got laid!”
“Yeah!” said his friend Oelin. The other annoying bully.
Mr. Zeike kept talking. “It is a normal activity for any living being to give birth. Many species on Liumira still do this. Including us, humans.”
I didn’t want to listen to him.
In Golm Neest, with the other name of it, Vietal, we had to take classes in school. Despite our advance technology, the educational system was built on human interactions. With that we could build relationships and get to know each other better. But there was another thing. We were being observed. The perfect candidates would be chosen in the early times in our youth. And one thing for sure, I wasn’t one of them. I never was. I would probably be chosen for a distant place to take care of plants or animals as a farmer. But it wouldn’t hurt me. I was happy for being different and thinking free.
I closed my eyes and tried not to hear anyone. The loud and noisy class was full of idiots. Sometimes it could be really hard for me.
“So, Viemi,” said Mr. Zeike. “What can you tell us about the early history of our ancestors back on Earth?”
I suddenly realized that he was talking to me. The moment I opened my eyes was the moment I saw everyone was looking at me. Not because of the curiosity, but because I wasn’t much of a talking guy.
“Can I pass it, please?” I asked.
“No,” said Mr. Zeike. “You don’t talk at all. I value your answer. Come on. Give us a notch.”
Mr. Zeike has blue cold eyes. He can really be effective on anyone when he wants with those eyes. But for me, he was never that much good. His persuasion wasn’t effective on me.
“I think what is being told us is not totally true.” I answered.
“What do you mean?” he asked.
“Yeah, what do you mean you moron?” laughed Oelin. I looked at him like I was looking at a pathetic parasite. He mopped away. This was fun. I smiled and then looked at the teacher.
“I mean the early history of Planet Earth wasn’t a written history. So, it may not be true at all.”
“We are aware of that.” Said Mr. Zeike. “But that doesn’t mean it is wrong either.”
“That is a dilemma.” I said looking at him.
“So, what is your opinion Mr. Knowing all?” said Tiali trying to humiliate me.
“I choose not to answer.” I said. “Maybe next time?”
“Sure.” Said Mr. Zeike. “We are a democratic nation. Everyone can choose what they think.”
“Thanks.” I said as I looked at my desk. The class lost its interest in me. The lesson kept going and the long minutes became years for me. And then it ended. The last lesson for the day. I quickly picked my bag and went out. The weather seemed nice but there were dark clouds in the south. The storm was about to hit Fonare.
The land of mages. Once the Free People. But now they were the most powerful people on Liumira. They surely could handle that storm. Our satellites watch every part of the planet. But of course, not everyone of us can access to the entire planet. Many places are censored as classified information. I never understand this, but I am sure that if people can see those places, they won’t be happy as they are now.
I walked through the park thinking about it. The students left by their vehicles. I always choose to walk. My home isn’t far from the school. It takes me about twenty minutes to get home. It helps me to clear my mind after the school. Walking is good. Near a café, I saw some of my classmates drinking and laughing. They were a good group of pupils.
“Hey Viemi!” called of them, Hieldi. “Come over dude! Come on, man!”
“No, thanks. I am going home.” I answered. The girls looked at me in curiosity. Girls were like that. They like mystery and dark side of us. But I don’t have any mysterious behaviors. I was just a quiet boy who wasn’t interested in his generation. I had a fire in my soul. The deep desire to understand the infinity. The meaning beyond what is obvious. To know much about our existence. But at this early age of my life, it wasn’t a good sign for many to accept me. And that is why I was a lone soul for most of my time.
“Come on man!” said Hieldi again. He was a nice boy. Kind but naïve. He always had the most beautiful girls with himself. Girls like him a lot. He definitely knows how to make them happy.
“I really like to go home.”
“No way, man!” he stood up and came towards me quickly. Then he grabbed my arm and said, “Nothing wrong to drink something with friends. We are young and stupid. Come on. Join us.”
“Okay.” I said following him. The girls over the table looked at me interested even more. I knew them well. This group was a nice one.
Hieldi and the three other girls seemed to have a fun time together. Jilda, the blond tall and attractive blue-eyed girl looked at me in the eyes. She definitely had beautiful eyes. And she was really attractive. Like no other girls. She had her own charm. Next to her, there was Winge. She had dark hairs and brown eyes. And she was tall. One of the tallest girls in the school. She had a huge body. Like a male soldier. But in her heart, she was one of the kindest persons I knew at the school. She and Hieldi had a chemistry despite they never showed it. It was like the ocean and the air, the morning, and the evening. They would complete each other. And in many ways, I always wanted such a relationship. Untold but bounded in a way that didn’t need to explain itself.
The last girl was Beana. She was a minion type. But she was really intelligent, and she as well was a kind girl. Her dark straight hair, slant eyes, dimples on her cheeks would make her sweet. She would squint when she looked far.
These four people would always hang together after school.
“Welcome Viemi,” said Jilda. “It is nice to see you sitting with us.”
“Thanks. It is nice as well.” I answered.
“Hey,” said Winge, “You didn’t get offended by what Teali said, right?”
“No.”
“Good.” She continued. “They are just stupid people who think everything is a joke.”
“They are just teenagers,” said Winge. “We all do stupid things.” In the meantime, Hieldi brought a bottle of juice for me and sat next to me. He put his hand on my shoulder and smiled widely. His clean white teeth with his half black skin would make him seem handsome. I smiled back at him.
“Yeah, but that doesn’t mean they should make fun of others. Not especially when it is humiliating.” Said Beana.
“Should we go to the party tonight?” suggested Hieldi. It appeared that he didn’t like the way of the conversation was going to. “I bet it is going to be amazing.”
“Ha-ha!” said Jilda. “They told the same thing for the last party we went to.”
“Hey, come on!” defended himself Hieldi. “It was fun. A cave party is always fun.”
“The girls messed up man!” said Beana. “Giata kissed Olivar and she was about to eat him out.”
“That is disgusting.” Said Winge. “I wouldn’t do that if I were her.”
“You are not her Winge.” Said Jilda. “That is why it is disgusting for you.”
“What about you Viemi?” asked Hieldi. “Would you like to come with us?”
“Oh! Parties are not really my thing.” I said drinking my juice. It was a sweet weari juice. Wearis are the easiest fruits to grow everywhere on Liumira. They taste like oranges back on Earth. We have oranges here as well. But wearis are easier to grow and even easier to harvest. They are huge and there is a lot of fluid in them. These make it efficient to produce and trade.
“I think you should come,” suggested Jilda. “This will be a surprise for many.”
“Yeah,” agreed Winge. “Come with us! We hang out and if you don’t like it, we leave early. Then maybe we can go to the waterfall. It is beautiful when the two moons are over the sky.”
“Okay,” I said. Not because of the party but I would like to see the waterfall in the night. I heard about it before but never visited it in the night.
The waterfall is called Golmerin, is an underground river’s falling down even deeper of Vietal. There is that huge oval pit like area and there are trees and planets under the surface around it. It is like an underground world with its own unique flora. The lake that is formed by the waterfall is a glowing water and it radiates light colors in the nights. It is beautiful when you see it for the first time.
“Really?” asked Hieldi. “You are not kidding?” He didn’t want to believe that I said yes.
“No. But I will probably get bored too soon.”
“Oh man!” He smiled even wider. “Oh man! This is going to burn the party. Viemi at the party! I can’t imagine the surprising expressions on those people’s faces.”
“Don’t get many expectations. Most of them will be already high and won’t even remember what they see.”
“True but the next day all of them will talk about it.”
“It is good that it is weekend.” I smiled. I had no idea that me going to a party would affect people so much. But as I said, I don’t talk much and this makes me a mysterious dark type at school.
“Dude!” said Hieldi. “We all talk in a digital world. Weekdays or weekends don’t really matter.”
We talked about an hour and it was actually nice. I loved their joyful conversation. Then I left and got home. A few hours later, they would come and get me to the party together. Until then, I decided to check the storm that was approaching to Fonare. Our satellites would let me see that part of the planet.
I always watch Fonare in the screens and I always wanted to visit there one day. But Fonare was closed to other nations. Well. Recently all the nations on Liumira closed their doors to each other. This was mostly because of the virus that spread over the east lands. But there were also conflicts. And then there was that one huge reason. Us. In their language, which was now also our most used language, Vietal. The Earth People.
We were the bad guys in that story, and no one would ever want us. So, it was basically impossible for me to see Fonare with bare eyes. To meet those people. They were people of art, music, and poetry. And to be honest, I couldn’t imagine a more beautiful nation than them.
