Mia and Logan sat in the back of the taxi as it weaved through the busy streets toward the airport. The sun was setting, casting a warm glow over the city, but neither of them paid much attention to the view.

Mia was deep in thought, her fingers tapping absently against the worn leather seat, while Logan’s eyes scanned the passing scenery with the instinctual alertness of someone who had seen too much of the world’s dangers.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” Mia asked, breaking the silence.

Logan glanced at her, offering a small smile. “It’ll be fine, Mia. We’re just here to welcome your parents and Lord Leinhart. What could go wrong?”

Mia sighed, leaning her head back against the seat. “It’s just... you know how Melissa gets. She’s going to make a big deal out of us arriving in a taxi.”

Logan’s smile widened, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “Let her. It’s not the car that matters. Besides, I’m used to her insults by now.”
