Logan stood in the hallway of the hospital, his arms crossed, leaning against the cold, whitewashed wall. He stared at the door to Mia’s room.

His heart ached to see her, to touch her, to hold her hand. But the image of her blank, confused expression when she had woken up after the accident haunted him.

She hadn’t recognized him. The woman he’d sworn to protect, the woman he loved more than anything, had looked at him like he was a stranger.

It tore him apart.

Inside her room, Logan could hear her light laughter, the sound muffled but still clear enough to reach his ears. She was talking to Nella, her assistant and friend.

Nella had been with Mia through thick and thin, and even now, she stayed by Mia’s side, helping her recover with the kind of dedication that went beyond professional duty.

Logan trusted Nella, she was family in all but blood to Mia. But even seeing Mia happy in Nella's presence wasn’t enough to make him step inside. He couldn’t bring himself to face her just yet
