Melissa had been lounging in the grand living room of the Leinhart villa, flipping through a magazine when she heard the front door open. Her heart skipped a beat when she glanced up and saw Mia walking in with Logan by her side.

For a brief moment, disbelief clouded her face. Mia was home? She hadn’t expected her cousin to be discharged so soon, not after the severity of the accident. This was definitely not part of the plan.

Quickly regaining her composure, Melissa straightened up on the sofa, her fingers gripping the armrest a bit too tightly. tension crossed her features, but she quickly forced a pleasant expression, though inside her thoughts raced wildly.

Mia wasn’t supposed to be back. It had been convenient while Mia was away no prying eyes, no questions about her behavior. But now Mia was here, and Melissa had to adjust her strategy.

"Welcome back, Mia," Melissa said, her tone unusually sweet and devoid of the usual sarcasm she often reserved for her cousin.
