The auditorium building was huge, and its size stretched to an unknown distance Mason wasn't aware of. The irony of the situation hit him, and a little smile appeared on his face. He has been at Aleric University for years; it was his first time at the student auditorium. The time a general gathering was announced like this was during his freshman year, and he could not attend due to the part-time jobs he was juggling.

Shifting his thoughts, Mason followed the queue with several students walking in the same direction. The Security guard standing at the entrance of the auditorium building made Mason groan as the reason for their appearance whacked him. He wasn't holding his student pass, which he had forgotten at home. Since it is an official gathering with the university staff, including other high administrators of the University, the security pass will strictly be used. As if that wasn't enough, Mason raised his head to the broadcasting speaker at the top of the building, towering

Beyond the glass walls, the aircraft gleamed beneath the runway lights, its massive body humming softly, patient and imposing. From the direction of the plane, a lanky, tall man descended the mobile stairs with unhurried confidence. His uniform was immaculate, and the badge of Williams Airline was clipped neatly to his chest. In his left hand, he held an iPad, the glowing Williams logo unmistakable against the dark screen. He stopped just before the gate, lifting the iPad slightly as his calm voice carried over the students.“If you check your flight ticket, you’ll find your seating arrangement, and within a few minutes you will be assisted into the plane,” he said, wearing a professional smug. “If you believe there’s an issue with your seat, please notify airport staff before boarding. Thank you.”Several students nodded, quickly unfolding tickets again. Others leaned toward their friends, whispering seat numbers and giggling as they scanned the crowd for potential seatmates. • Tongue-tied

The boy looked up, pointing at Mason’s watch as if it might burn him. “It’s registered! A limited edition of the Paul Newman Daytona registry.” The words landed like a verdict, and Jacob froze. “No,” he said flatly. “That’s impossible.”The seller let out a low, humorless chuckle. He folded his arms, while his eyes fixed on Mason with a knowing look. He had been in Aleric City far too long and had watched too many men hide fortunes behind plain shirts and quiet manners to be fooled by appearances. The students might see a poor boy in borrowed clothes, but he saw a concealed empire.“What is it Jacob?” Mason muttered almost calmly that Jacob’s leg shivered not from cold but from the sudden realization creeping in. His face drained of color as the truth settled in. The humiliation he had planned so carefully, with every insult rehearsed, has failed.Around them, the students buzzed with whispers and murmurs and one thing was sure; their tone had changed from that of suspicion to admir

  • Heavy Silence

Jacob scoffed, shaking his wrist so the light reflected on his own watch. “Can you hear this guy?” he said, laughing with forced confidence. “Paul Newman, unique piece? What nonsense. All original Rolexes look like this; clean, shiny, and not whatever that thing is,” he added, thrusting his wrist forward arrogantly. The crowd of students panned their gaze on the details of Jacob's watch with admiration. When Jacob raised the shopping bag of the other watch, he smiled.“You know there is no shame in admitting your mistake, Mason.” His grin widened, scanning his face for any kind of reaction.Mason didn’t move; rather, he simply stood there, with his hands relaxed at his sides. There was no irritation on his face, no need to defend himself. If anything, he looked rather amused, as though he was watching a child throw stones at the ocean. He knows the origin of Jacob's newfound confidence, and as much as he would like to terminate the contract just to crumble Jacob's wings, this was more

  • Not An Ordinary Watch

Mason stepped away from the stall, allowing the weight of his bag to rest against his shoulder while his other hand was occupied with the other bags. He quietly moved to join the crowd who were now waiting for the announcement of their departure.“Omg,” Mason overheard a student gasp in his direction. He narrowed his gaze to the guy standing with a female student. Their eyes shifted from his face and glued to his wrist. The sun filtering through the airport glass caught the watch at an angle, which made the polished metal gleam with elegance. It wasn’t flashy, and yet its calm nature screamed for attention.“He actually wore a Rolex,” one of the students who was quick to notice him repeated. More students turned their heads, pausing mid-sentence to stare in his direction.“Huh? Are you sure that’s a Rolex?” Another student muttered, leaning forward with squinted eyes, hoping to get a closer look. “I’ve never seen that design before,” another student replied, making more whispers sp

The next morning, Mason’s alarm rang at 6am. Without hesitation he slipped out of bed with ease, running a hand through his hair. It was as if his body was excited to prove someone wrong. After a quick shower, Mason stepped into his expansive walk-in wardrobe. His eyes roamed through the row of tailored suits, casual designer wear, and other outfits that lined the space, but that wasn't what he was looking for. At the far end sat several glass cases resting in silence.Mason paused for a minute, allowing his finger to brush past several watches, each one capable of turning heads and destroying reputations. Finally, he reached for the unique piece, the Paul Newman’s Daytona. He could remember the day his mother gifted him the watch. He could remember walking into his bedroom and seeing the case resting on his bed with a note from his mother, and today would mark the first time he would wear it.Mason lifted up the price. The weight of it was comforting, solid, and certain. He fasten

  • Group Chat

Mason lay across his king-size bed, one arm tucked beneath his head, as the soft glow of his phone illuminated the space. He had been ignoring the department group chat for days due to the endless notifications and pointless arguments. But today was different, and boredom had a way of lowering standards. With a click of his thumb, he opened the engineering group chat. The first thing that greeted him was chaos: messages stacking on, emojis flooding his screen, and voice notes that he had no intention of listening to coming in.Mason frowned slightly and began scrolling upward, trying to trace the origin of their excitement. After a few seconds, he paused at the highlighted messages, which caught his attention. [ANNOUNCEMENT: DEPARTMENTAL TRIP TO SONG ISLAND]“Songs Island?” he muttered under his breath. The survival program is now part of the university curriculum, which is taking place on Song Island. Mason has heard of students who have gone through the various stages of the progr
