Chapter Three

It’s already been two days since the Fed arrested Nikolai, so far every call he had made to get out of that situation failed, today was his sentencing and unfortunately for him all evidence points towards him being guilty.

“Mr. Ivanov, you understand the charges against you?” The detective’s voice cut through the silence, bringing Nikolai back to the present.

“I do,” Nikolai replied, his voice steady.

He stood in front of the judge as he pleaded guilty, for Olivia’s sake. He had no intention of fighting the charges. He had already made up his mind.

He was convicted and sentenced to 7 years in jail.

Before the Fed took him away, they gave him a few minutes to speak with his family.

Olivia walked up to Nikolai with tears in her eyes as she gave him a warm hug.

“I’m sorry, this is all my fault.” She said with a low voice.

“Don’t be, I promised I was going to protect you no matter the cost, besides seven years ain’t that long.” Nikolai said

Olivia let out a small laugh with tears still running down her face.

“I’ll come see you everyday, I promise.” Olivia said.

Nikolai gave her a smile before kissing her.

Mikhail walked up to him and gave him a hug too.

“Your gonna handle the company while am gone, so take care of everything for me.” Nikolai said to Mikhail.

“Of course, Who knew love could be this strong, I’ll see you on the other side.” Mikhail said to him

Nikolai turned to his lawyer, his eyes reflecting a mix of determination and resignation. “She’s all I have, Jeff. Without her, none of this means anything. I’m doing this for her, for us.”

Jeff sighed, knowing there was no changing Nikolai’s mind. “You’re a good man, Nikolai. I just hope… I just hope she’s worth it.”

As he stepped into the prison van, Nikolai's thoughts turned to Olivia. He imagined her at home, safe, and free from the accusations that had threatened to tear their lives apart. He pictured her smile, the one that had always been his anchor in the storm. It was that image he clung to as the van doors slammed shut, sealing his fate.

he starred back through the window and saw Mikhail consoling Olivia and he knew that not only his business but his fiancée would be in good hands as he trusts Mikhail with his life.

And with that he was taken to the correction centre.

It didn’t take long for the news to spread, the CEO of Ivanov Industries has been convicted of murder.

Mikhail stood at the entrance of the Ivanov Industries building as reporters swarmed him.

He was about announcing that he would be taking over as CEO.

“we all know the tragic misfortune that happened to my brother the ceo of this company, even with what is happening this company still needs someone to run it, this company still needs a CEO, due to his absence I will be taking over as the new CEO.” Mikhail said

Murmurs from the reporters could be heard as they began taking pictures and asking questions.

Though Mikhail had the same face with Nikolai he was nothing like his brother, This was a new beginning for Ivanov Industries

As the months rolled on, Olivia began visiting him regularly, bringing him small comforts, a favorite book, photos of the outside world, and even home cooked meals. She was the only connection he had left to the life he once knew, and each visit renewed his hope to survive this hellhole.

It was on one such visit, a warm summer afternoon, that Nikolai noticed something different about Olivia. She arrived in a tight black dress, her hair perfectly styled, and her makeup flawless. She looked every bit the powerful, glamorous woman he had fallen in love with, but there was something in her eyes, a certain brightness that hadn’t been there before.

“Nikolai” she greeted him warmly as she took her seat across from him, separated by the thick glass. She picked up the receiver, her smile almost too perfect.

“Olivia,” Nikolai replied, He picked up the receiver on his side and tried to reach out to touch the glass where her hand rested, but the cold barrier between them only made him feel more distant from her.

“I brought you something special today,” she said, her eyes lighting up as she reached into her bag. She pulled out a small, worn book and held it up for him to see.

“The book we read together on our honeymoon,” Nikolai said softly, recognizing the faded cover. “You kept it.”

“Of course I did,” she replied, her voice filled with emotion. “I couldn’t part with it. Every time I read it, I think of us… of what we used to have.”

Nikolai’s heart swelled with a bittersweet ache. He had almost forgotten what it felt like to be close to her, to share those intimate moments. For a moment, he allowed himself to believe that maybe, just maybe, things could go back to the way they were.

“I miss you, Olivia,” he admitted, his voice trembling with sincerity. “When I get out, we can start over. We can rebuild everything we lost.”

Olivia’s smile grew, her eyes shining with what appeared to be hope. “I miss you too, Nikolai. I’m counting the days until you come home.”

They talked for a while longer, about the small details of life outside, about their plans for the future. Olivia was careful to paint a picture of the life they would build together, of the love that would endure despite everything they had been through. It was exactly what Nikolai needed to hear.

When the time came for her to leave, Olivia pressed her hand to the glass, her eyes soft with affection. “I’ll be waiting for you, Always.”

Nikolai did the same, pressing his hand against the glass, wishing he could feel her touch just one more time. “I love you, Olivia.”

“I love you too,” she whispered, her voice so sweet, so convincing. She lingered for a moment, letting the words hang in the air before she finally turned and walked away, her heels clicking against the floor.

Nikolai watched her go, his heart filled with a renewed sense of purpose. He would come out stronger, and when he did, he would reclaim everything he had lost. Olivia’s visits had kept him sane, had given him something to hold on to. And now, with her promise of a future together, he was more determined than ever to see it through.

But as Olivia exited the prison, her expression changed the moment she was out of sight. The warm, affectionate smile she had shown Nikolai melted away, replaced by something cold, calculating. She walked with an air of confidence, her heels clicking on the pavement as she approached a black luxury Rolls Royce car waiting at the curb.

The driver stepped out and opened the door for her. She slid into the back seat, where Mikhail was already seated, casually sipping on a glass of whiskey. His features were sharp, his demeanor relaxed, and his smile widened as she settled in beside him.

“Have a good visit?” Mikhail asked, his voice dripping with amusement.

Olivia leaned over and kissed him on the lips, her fingers brushing through his hair. “Better than good,” she replied with a sly grin. “He still believes every word I say.”

Mikhail chuckled, a deep, rich sound that resonated through the car. “Poor Nikolai,” he mused, taking another sip of his drink. “Still the same old fool, even after all these years.”

Olivia laughed, a cold, hollow sound that contrasted sharply with the sweet tone she had used with Nikolai just moments ago. “He’s always been too trusting, too willing to believe in love and loyalty. That’s what makes him so easy to manipulate.”

“And when he gets out?” Mikhail asked, his expression turning serious for a moment.

“When he gets out, he’ll find that there’s nothing left for him. No company, no fortune, and no wife. By the time he realizes what’s happened, we’ll be long gone.”

Mikhail, clearly pleased with the plan. “You really are something, Olivia.”

She smirked, leaning back into the leather seat. “And to think, he still believes I’m the same woman he fell in love with all those years ago. But the truth is, I’m glad he’s in there. It makes everything so much easier.”

The car began to pull away from the curb, the prison fading into the distance as they sped down the road.

Nikolai laid in his bed at his cell, staring up at the ceiling he was excited for their next visit the next day unknowingly to him that he had alot of surprises waiting for him on the day of his release.
