IT HAS BEEN OVER 20 years now since Kamizoel was born as a mortal earthling and his life has been riddled with unfortunate disasters.
He was dumped as an orphan in front of a foster home and grew up without knowing either his human mother or father. The memories of his past life came to him on his 9th birthday. He was out in the field, raking the dead leaves in the yard, which was his duty for the week alongside 3 other foster children when he felt a searing pain flash in his head.He fell to the floor, groaning but his companions paid him no mind. They all disliked him and watched him writhe in pain for over 15 minutes. Then the pain passed and left with him the scarring memory of his past life. About how he was an Eternal warrior, and the punishment in the void, and even worse, the punishment on earth, and lastly, his hate for humans. His contempt grew towards every human around him, but sadly, he could not do anything because Tanis had put him in a human body that was smaller and more puny than usual, so over the years, he had had to endure the torture and bullying from his peers.Today was his 21st human birthday, he was working in a restaurant, as a cleaner. With each swipe of the mop, he cursed all the Eternals under his breath."Fucking Tanis," He muttered. "I am sure this long 21 years is not even up to a blink in his sights." He dipped the mop into a bucket and pushed it forward. "I wonder what he'll do when I use up my human years," He squeezed the mop and resumed mopping another area. "After all, the average of a human's life is 80 years old… maybe he'll let me die." He ran his mop along the length of the floor. "Or maybe, he will put me in another body to continue this misery."He sighed. Over the 21 years, he still had not gotten used to the aching and fatigue of the human body. He wiped his forehead with the back of his hand and sat down tiredly on a chair.Suddenly, the back door busted open and his boss walked in."You lazy bastard!" His boss snarled. "What are you doing? You think I am paying you to sit around and do nothing?"Kamizoel looked up blankly at the man. This was one of those moments when he wished he still had his demi-god powers. He could have destroyed this pudgy man and the store without any remorse."I am talking to you!" The man snarled again. He looked around, "You have not even started anything at all. Look at that spot!" He pointed at a place where Kamizoel had mopped before. "If not that the law forbids it, I would have whacked you across your head with my stick!" He said and walked out, slamming the door behind him.Kamizoel's eyebrows drew together in a thick frown. This was one of the many reasons why he hated people. Just a bunch of irrational mortals. He stood up and started to resume his mopping when the door opened and a group of guys walked in.He took one glance at them and groaned, "Can today get any more worse?" He asked himself. He paid them no mind and continued with his duties when one of the guys looked at him and laughed."Hey, guys," He called to his peers. "Look at who we have here," The other guys crowded closer."Isn't that Kami?" One of them asked.Kami was the short form of Kamizoel and it was his human name."Of course, it's Kami," The first one said and laughed. These were his college mates, and they made his life a living hell whenever they could. Most of the time, Kamizoel chose to avoid them, but there was nowhere to hide now."What do you guys want?" Kamizoel asked. "You can place your orders and sit down, I will be with you shortly." He said through gritted teeth when all he wanted was to rip out their heads from their necks."Oh, you're being so polite now, eh?" Another one asked. "Where is the usual arrogance?"Kamizoel looked away."It's because we are at his workplace," The first one said. They all jeered and laughed. "And he's a miserable cleaner. Why did you hide the mop? We know what you are."Kamizoel snorted. "You do not know what I am," he muttered to himself. "If you did, you would shit in your pants out of fear.""What did you say?" They asked. One of them jabbed at his shoulder. "I dare you to repeat it."The backdoor opened and Kamizoel's boss came in. "What is going on here?" His eyes immediately went to Kamizoel. "Is this how you treat the customers?""But, I–""Shut it!" His boss snapped. "I always knew you were good for nothing and if you are not careful, I will send you away." then he turned to the coursemates and said in a calm voice, "What do you gentlemen want?"Kamizoel sighed and walked away to continue his work. He listened as his coursemates listed meals worth almost $100 and then ended it with, "Kami owes us some money, sir. You can take it from his salary."He was shocked by the blatant lie, and even more shocked when his boss nodded and said, "It's not a problem, boys."They sniggered and gave Kamizoel a small wink as they left the store.$100?That was even more than his student monthly salary. That would mean he would not be receiving any money for the month. His head felt like it was going to explode as he ended his shift and walked to his one-room apartment. His mind wandered as his legs wandered too. He thought of the good old days. Almost 1000 years ago. When he was a demigod of immense power and strength. When he had fought in different human wars just for the thrill of it, how come Tanis knew of the battle of Dumstrand? That question flitted in his heart as he walked blindly in the late evening sun. But instead of him to head home, he changed direction and walked to a lonely spot where he liked to relax and think. It was an open area with one big shade oak tree and a 200-meter cliff that dropped into sharp boulders and dusty plains. He sat under the oak tree and brought out his lunch. It was a cold chicken sandwich that he took from his workplace. As he ate, he kept on wondering how Tanis knew of his involvement with human matters. Then the answer came to him in the rustling of leaves.Marzurk.Marzurk knew about Kamizoel's frequent adventures on Earth, and he was the one who had told Tanis about it.He gritted his teeth angrily. There was a sound from behind him, it was the sound of a whistle. He turned and saw that it was his coursemates, the ones from his workplace. He stood up abruptly as they approached."Did you follow me?" He asked."Did you follow me?" One of the guys echoed him mockingly and they all laughed. They fanned out as they walked to him. The five of them formed a semi-circle."What do you want?" Kamizoel asked."We should be doing the asking," one of the guys snarled. "And you… you should be quiet and answer when spoken to."They towered over Kamizoel's small frame, but his eyes glinted in defiance and anger as he looked at each of them. "What do you want?""Why did you not want to pay for our meals, huh?" The leader asked."What?" Kamizoel was confused."You heard me right. You started to argue when we said you would pay." The leader said, stepping forward to crowd Kami who stepped back involuntarily."You lied on me…" Kami argued, "I don't owe you guys any money.""We did not lie…" The one on the far right snapped.Kami took another step backward. Suddenly, he was standing on the edge of the cliff, and the boys were still pressing him to move backward. A stone fell loose from beneath his foot and toppled down.Kami glanced back. "So how am I owing you?" He asked."You owe us your life," The leader said. "For not killing you. You hear me?!"A human reaction made him start sweating profusely and a wave of fear abashed over him. He frowned slightly. Kamizoel, the warrior demigod does not fear anything or owe his life to anybody, And especially not to some stupid brats!Mustering all his courage from his spirit, he said, "I think 3 of you will be owing me.""What did you say? What do you mean?""For letting 3 of you live." He said. With that, he gripped the two closest to him and fell backward over the cliff. He closed his eyes and enjoyed the feeling of the two boys clutching at him desperately as they screamed and fell to their deaths. They landed with a sickening thud and crack on some boulders. The last thing Kamizoel said before his eyes closed finally was, "Fuck Tanis!"KAMIZOEL WAS NOT meant to die. That was not Tanis's plan for him. But nothing could save him as he fell over 200m down and crashed into hard sharp boulders. He closed his eyes in death. At that same moment and coincidentally in a faraway galaxy of the universe. A supernova was happening. A supernova is the death of a white giant star. It emits so much energy that it can disrupt the normal flow of life on a cosmic scale. It is the energy of the supernova that transported Tanis's soul away from Earth and through worlds, into a world called ANSALON. KAMIZOEL STIRRED SLIGHTLY and opened his eyes. He could not detect different shapes and colors, he felt so dizzy. He tried to stand up but his hands and legs felt very heavy. Have I been reborn as another human on Earth? He thought to himself. "Then that would mean Tanis has a wicked sense of humor." His vision cleared and he could see he was in a large ditch. He tried to sand again but could not even control his feet. After close to 5 mi
ANAKIN WALKED INTO his room and closed the door. He felt angry and cheated upon by fate. Why would some children have this thing called Life while others would not? He paced the length of his room, agitated. But what exactly was Life? He asked himself. He was still trying to get more familiar with this new world that he found himself in. He looked healthy. He felt healthy, and he was alive, but still, he had been told that he had almost no life. He looked at his hands carefully and willed with all his might, then he snapped his fingers, just as he had seen Daryth do a few minutes ago. He was half expecting that some miracle would occur and a flame would pop on his finger. But there was nothing. Nothing happened. He sighed and walked out of his room. He was headed to the royal library where he could read everything he wanted about Life in Ansalon. The library was a tall room with a very high ceiling. There were people in thick hooded robes walking around. These were a sector of th
ANAKIN'S MIND WAS disturbed. Lord Bard's comment had hurt his pride, this was the pride of Kamizoel. The real Anakin would not have minded because he had gotten used to all the insults. Anakin turned to look at Arya. He disliked her father and tried to dislike her too, but he could not. She reminded him of the angelic nature of the female gods in Ethereal. Daryth was making an effort to catch her attention, he was snapping fiery fingers and shooting the flames up in the air. No other kid of his age in all of the capital could wield life as powerfully as Daryth could, and he made sure to let Arya know that. Anakin scoffed and turned to look at Commander Arlen. "I'm going to go to my room. Walking like this makes me weak." He said. Daryth scoffed and said, "You should see my training field. Taking a night stroll like this is nothing, especially not with the life pumping through my veins." Anakin opened his mouth to reply, but he saw Arya looking at him. So he simply turned and walke
"HAVE YOU READ the story of the Zherof the grand mage?" Almin asked. Anakin shook his head. "I have never heard of him." "Yes, that is because his name is forbidden. He has been erased from every history scrolls. Nobody should know about him." Almin said, stroking his long white beard. "Who was he?" Anakin asked. "He was just a peasant, born on the outskirts of the capital, almost in the Fey kingdom," Almin said. His voice took a dreamy tone as he recounted the story. "But one thing was peculiar about this peasant boy, though." Anakin looked on, intrigued. "The boy was born with almost no life," Almin continued. "Not so different from you, my prince." Anakin nodded at him to continue, so he did. "It was later discovered that Zherof, could yield life, but in a dark and forbidden way. He was taking life from the air and other things around him and controlling it." "It was forbidden?" Anakin asked. "Why?" "Because that is not how things should be done," almin replied. "So what
PAN SAMA shrieked in despair. "You just let the dragon go… just like that." He put his hands to his head. "And you didn't even pay me enough for it." Anakin just stood, looking at the open doorway that the dragon had flown through. Ser Arlen came to stand behind Anakin and say, "Don't think about it much, my prince. Dragons choose who can ride or tame them." Anakin nodded. "We should go now," he replied. Arlen nodded and turned to Pan Sama. "Where are the dogs?" Pan Sama reluctantly pointed at some cages. "You did not pay me enough," He grumbled but was ignored. Commander Arlen gestured with his head to his men and they went to uncaring the cages. The dogs were well-behaved and on leashes already, so they were easy to control, and they were huge dogs. Almost the size of Grey wolves. These were dire-hounds. It was a species of dog. They were very rare and expensive to take care of, so they were mostly found in royal care. No one knew where Pan Sama found and raised the puppies but
ANAKIN WOKE UP to the sound of a loud horn blowing from the palace grounds, and a loud voice called; "The king returns!" He stood up and rubbed his eyes. He did not know when he had fallen asleep, the last thing he remembered was trying to think of a plan on how to get a tutor. He hurried to the window and looked out, the library was situated on another part of the palace, but it was a tower and the view stretched far, so Anakin could see his father and his men returning. He quickly closed the books and left as they floated back to their shelf spaces. He then hurried down the stairs and came out to the palace grounds just as the portcullis was being raised and the horses came marching through. He stood near a pillar and watched them approach, and then he noted that behind the men, was a short, stocky, ugly looking creature bound by its arms and dragged along. "What is that?" He asked the guard closest to him. "That is an orc, young prince," the guard said. Anakin stepped forward.
"YOUR HIGHNESS," FLETCHER bowed deeply. He was a young elf with green skin and pointy ears. Lord Hederick nodded in acknowledgment. "I need you to send some ravens to the north…" Fletcher reached into the bag slung across his sunken chest and brought out a scroll which he placed on a small table. Then he dipped his quill into a bottle of ink and poised it on the scroll. "Tell the Lords of the North that they should be prepared…" The king said and paused. Fletcher stood overlooking the scroll as the quill scribbled what the king was saying. It was an enchanted quill that could relay and write exactly what was being said, Fletcher only had to read through and wet the quill when it got dry. "Tell them that there is a great disturbance," Lord Hederick said. "And word from the grand druid says that it would start from the North." He paused again. Only the sound of the quill could be heard until Fletcher cleared his throat and said, "Um, my lord… may I speak?" Lord Hederick nodded and
AS THEY RAN, Anakin noticed the way the man used Life. He used it in a way he had never seen before. Sometimes, it was like the man used life from the surroundings and some other times, it was like he generated life from his body. It amazed Anakin. Suddenly, the man stopped and turned to face an oncoming Anakin. Anakin skidded to a stop a few feet away from the man, he bent over to catch his breath. "Your use of Life is impressive for a kid," the man said in a low voice. "Wha–what?" Anakin was still bent over. The man walked closer. "The way you used Life…" He muttered, going around Anakin. "I was expecting you to stop running minutes ago. But somehow, you kept up with me and ran along for over 20 minutes." "What?" Anakin stood up and looked around. They were no longer in the capital, instead tall trees and bushes were around. "Where are we?" He asked. The man scoffed. "You were not paying attention to where you were running? You lack positional awareness." Anakin turned in cir
"SIT!" LORD HEDERICK commanded. Anakin bowed and sat on a small stool opposite the throne. Daryth sat beside him, scowling. Queen Eleana sat beside the throne, opposite the boys. Lord Hederick stood, towering over them all. "Tell me," He said, his voice booming across the throne hall. "Tell us what you did.""I, um–" Anakin started, but saw his father's frown so he cleared his throat and said in a stronger voice. "I fought and killed a herd of giants, father." Queen Eleana's eyes threatened to pop. "You what?!" She almost screamed. "Sid you know about it?" Lord Hederick asked Daryth who shook his head vehemently. "How did you do it?" The question was directed at Anakin. "Um, Commander Arlen has been training with me –" "Tell the truth, Anakin!" Anakin looked at the soles of his sandals and said, "I have been receiving some training from someone else." "Who is it?" His father asked. Anakin shrugged slightly. He did not know how to answer that question. Who really was Norman? He
KING HEDERICK WAS led through a long dark hallway. The fey king muttered a spell under his breath, "Continual Light," and a ball of light floated from his fingers and went ahead of them, illuminating the whole hallway. "What is it?" King Hederick asked. "What happened to the mage?" "It's hard to say," Dynnatt replied. "It's better you see it for yourself. My scouts found the remains of another man too. He might have been an archer or hunter. He had an enchanted bow beside his corpse." "What killed him?" Dynnatt shrugged. They had gotten in front of a thick wooden door. The Fey king pushed it open and they walked in. It was a small room with a thin bed in one corner. A wizened pale young man lay on the bed. Hederick immediately noted that he was human. Beside the bed, were two female Fey healers. They bowed and hurried out of the room. "Here is the mage," Dynnatt said. "Or ex-mage, is it?" "What do you mean?" "He has Life sucked out of him," Dynnatt walked to the pale figure on
GIANTS WERE DARK BLOODED creatures, they were one of the races most likely to embrace the darkness. They did not wield Life like natural Feys or mage druids, instead, the life that flowed in their veins made them grow to enormous sizes. The shortest full-blooded giant was said to be 20 feet tall. They had strength that matched their size too, but they were often slow and stupid. Their brain processing power was very low, but still, a herd of giants like this was more than enough for a platoon of 4th class warrior mages. Anakin dodged the club of the first giant, he rolled underneath the legs of another. "Reverse gravity!" Anakin yelled, pointing at the closest giant near him. The giant's eyes rolled in confusion as it floated into the sky. Just those two spells and Anakin could feel his energy draining. Norman was right, wielding Life like this was tedious work, he turned and –SLAM! He felt himself being flung 10 feet in the air as he was hit hard with the side of a giant stick.
EVERY TIME LORD HEDERICK visited the Fey kingdom. He was always in awe. He never let the aww show on his face, that would just further increase the ego of Feys. "Welcome once again, my Lord," A slim Fey in a green robe said as soon as they stepped out of the portal. Lord Hederick nodded. "Take me to your king," He said, half hoping that they wouldn't portal themselves to the palace, he wanted to admire the landscape surrounding the Feuy kingdom. "Yes, my Lord," the Fey said. "I will take it from here," He said to the first Fey messenger, who bowed and walked away. To Lord Hederick's delight, they did not portal, the Fey started walking. It was like he knew the Capital's king wanted to see their kingdom. The Fey kingdom was the most civilized and most magical in the whole continent. It was often believed that the ancestors of Feys had been the first to reach the source of Life, and they built the kingdom on the source, making them closest to magic than any other race. But those we
"COMMANDER ARLEN TOLD me that you are improving," Lord Hederick said a few days later. The whole family sat at the table having breakfast. "Hmm," Anakin said. "He is a good teacher," his father snorted. Anakin focused on his food. He had been meeting Norman and now he was getting the hang of wielding Life. He still had no idea who or what Norman was, but Norman was even a better teacher than Ser Arlen. "He said you used two small goblin metal swords," Lord Hederick said, when Anakin nodded, he continued, "I would have preferred if you favored a broad sword," His wife cast him a hard glance so he added, "But I am glad you are getting the hang of weapon fighting." "Thank you, Father," Anakin said, bowing slightly. They continued eating in silence, only the sounds of spoons on plates could be heard. Daryth kept on glaring at Anakin occasionally as they ate; Anakin noticed them ignored. Norman did not only teach him how to manipulate life from his surroundings, but he also taught hi
ANSALON WAS A very diversified world, with many kingdoms and species. Each kingdom was easily accessible by any species – except the dark bloods like orcs, centaurs, giants e.t.cThe Northern part of the continent – all the land in Ansalon was referred to as the continent – was characterized by harsh atmospheres and little sunlight. It was on the extreme edge of the world, no one knew what was beyond. The warriors and Northmen were said to be the toughest in Ansalon because they trained in such harsh conditions. IN THE DEPTH of the woods, the heavy snowflakes were blown around by the heavy wind. The skies were gray and thick with clouds, and the ground was buried underneath a thick layer of snow. Very few animals could stand this cold without suffering from frostbite, so the forest was silent and lifeless.Suddenly, the air seemed to compress and swirl like it was turning into liquid. And then a white portal opened and a translucent being walked through. It was Marzurk in his godly
