chapter 5

Marcus jumped up as the sun shone in his eyes; he had forgotten where he was. Living with Lydia meant he had to wake up earlier and do the housework for the family.

He exhaled in relief, and muttered, "freedom".

He groaned as he woke up, took his bath, shaved his hair, oiled it, and then wore the most outstanding clothes on his shelves: a green shirt and grey trousers. He completed the look with grey canvas shoes.

As he opened the door, he was nearly startled because Kathie was already there, dressed in a black suit that suited her perfectly.

"Good morning, young master," she bowed.

"Good morning, are you here waiting for me all day?" he asked, confused.

"I must be the first person to greet you under normal circumstances," she gently said.

"Oh..okay," he stammered, then kept walking downstairs.

"Where is father?" he asked.

"Gone out, he will return by night. You are to go to the bank yourself and take the black card. Today is yours, and you have to enjoy it to the fullest," Kathie said.

Marcus looked at her, lost in thought. The sudden blessing was still amazing. Just like that, he was rich overnight. The only thing on his mind was Lydia.

"If she did not mess up yesterday, she would be lucky today."

"Sir," Kathie called him back.

He blinked as he came back to life. "Uhn… okay, let me go to the bank," he said and walked out.

Two bodyguards with guns wanted to accompany him, but he told them to stay. He wanted to enjoy himself today and visit Lydia.

He danced out, stopped a cab, and drove away to the Diamond Bank. As he exited the car, the ladies surrounding him could not help but be amazed by his handsomeness.

With an air of confidence, he walked into the luxurious, spacious, and very classical bank. He wouldn't have access to this bank if Lydia hadn't helped him, because it was only for high-status people.

At first, he looked around, wondering where to go first. Then someone jumped in front of him.

"Hey, lowlife, what are you doing here?" Amelia said. Amelia was Lydia's best friend and was very annoying. She was one of the main reasons Lydia didn't treat Marcus well. She even planned the birthday and poisoned Lydia's mind not to tell Marcus.

Marcus, knowing Amelia's nature, kindly ignored her and looked around. But Amelia persisted as she held his hand.

"Where do you think you are going? Wow, so this is how handsome you are. Good thing you dress nice for this interview, but they don't accept lowlifes without background," she slandered.

"Who told you I am here for an interview?" Marcus snapped at her.

Amelia laughed, "really! Who do you want to fool? It's obvious why you are here."

Marcus smirked, "so, is that what you think?"

"That is what I know. You must be desperate after Lydia sent you out, but no one can employ someone like you in this kind of bank. A part-time job is what suits you more," Amelia ranted.

Marcus walked up straight in front of her, "you are mistaken. I am here for…"

She raised her hand, "save your lies, orphan. Seeing you irritates me. I hate you from the very day I set my eyes on you. What you are here for does not concern me. You, this orphan, should have died with your mother."

Marcus twisted his face in anger, "Don't you dare mention my mother again."

Amelia dared him as she stepped forward, "what will you do? Your dead mother can't do anything to me."

This made Marcus lose his temper. He raised his hand but controlled himself.

Surprisingly, Amelia touched her cheek and cried, "oh! No, he slapped me!"

Marcus chuckled because he was astounded. He didn't even touch her.

"My cheek is hurting," she put on crocodile tears and kept yelling. This attracted the attention of people, and two security guards immediately approached them.

"What is happening here?" one of them asked with a frown on his face. Amelia, a born actress, went on with her drama as she fell on the floor.

She was still wailing and pointed at Marcus, "he slapped me, he stepped on me, and I told him to apologize. He refused and slapped me."

The guards swiftly turned to Marcus with a cold stare.

"You really did that!" they both chorused.

Marcus calmly replied, "she is lying."

The guards were confused and looked at both of them.

"My cheek is hurting, isn't it obvious who is lying here?" Amelia shrieked.

They turned to Marcus, "sir, you know the gravity. If you do not say the truth now and apologize, you will be arrested for assault. So please say the truth."

Marcus maintained his composure, "I am telling you the truth, she is lying. You can check the CCTV," he pointed at one that was directly facing them. It surely captured it all.

"Oh, okay.." they said. Amelia popped out her eyes; this was not going to turn out good.

"What the hell is happening here?" another thick voice asked from behind. They all turned to it.

It was the head of security. Amelia smirked; she had a good relationship with the man because she always tipped him whenever she came to the bank. Amelia was a regular customer.

As soon as the head of security saw her, he smiled, then approached them, and asked, "ma'am, what is happening here?"

"This lowlife man here slapped me, and your junior is not believing me," she whimpered.

The head of security turned to his juniors, "you must be crazy. Why won't you believe her when she was on the ground like this, holding her cheek?"

"Sir, we want to…" they wanted to explain, but he cut them off.

"Shut your mouth. Instead of you beating the hell out of this man and throwing him out," the man said and brought out a long baton. He wanted to impress Amelia so he could get more tips.

Marcus popped out his eyes because at this stage, there was no way he could defend himself.
