Kane's expression contorted in shock and disbelief as the words tumbled from his mother's lips. He struggled to comprehend the enormity of what she had just revealed, that she had been aware of Hazel's affair all along, and she did nothing to contain her. The realization hit him like a sledgehammer, shattering his illusions and leaving him angry at her mother, whom he was disappointed in for keeping quiet about all of this because of the contract she managed to get.

“Mother, how could you?”

Kane's voice trembled with a mixture of anger and betrayal as he confronted Lady Charlotte, his eyes blazing with accusation.

“You knew about Hazel's affair, and yet you chose to remain silent? You allowed her to manipulate us, thinking she got the contract herself, and you gave her some of the company shares because of that. You allowed her to use her illicit relationship against us. How could you stand by and watch as she played us for fools? Now look at what it has landed us.”
