Chapter 18:The healing Magic
last update2025-02-06 02:35:30

Mason was momentarily taken aback. He vaguely recalled seeing a message earlier about the mission’s reward being distributed once he left the Crypt. However, he couldn’t help but feel confd by the entire situation.

"Am I going to receive an item, some experience, or maybe even money, like in a video game?" Mason md, struggling to fully understand what was happening.

Right on cue, another message appeared before him.

"Before receiving the reward, please take time to carefully choose."

" Your Chosen Path "

-Way of Balance

The prompt was peculiar, causing Mason to furrow his brow in confusion. His sharp instincts, however, quickly kicked in, and he grasped the meaning behind the choices—it was asking him to choose between control and connection.

Instead of feeling surprised, he felt a wave of irritation. The timing of the message was suspicious, appearing just as he had been contemplating the balance between control and harmony.

‘Is someone trying to test me?’ Mason wondered, reminded of the moments when he felt like ancient Magic Items were toying with him. Yet, despite how much he thought about it, he knew overanalyzing wouldn’t provide answers. In truth, his decision had already been made.

"The Path of Command," he declared resolutely.

He had no intention of submitting to any Magic Item, no matter the cost. Mason wasn’t going to let them torment him as they had in the past.

Immediately after his choice, another message flashed across his vision.

"The mission’s reward has been distributed."

Mason smirked at the dramatic tone of the message, but nothing seemed to be happening.

‘If this so-called reward is less…’ he thought as seconds passed, then minutes.

Growing impatient, Mason crossed his legs and grumbled, "Why isn’t anything showing up?"

He began rummaging through his belongings, though he didn’t expect some flashy game-like item drop. Still, a clue or hint about the reward would have been nice.

Then, just as he checked his pockets one last time, his fingers brushed against something small.

‘What’s this?’ he wondered, feeling a soft, round object between his fingers. It was barely noticeable, but definitely something different.

Pulling it out, Mason burst into laughter. A small, pebble-like object sat in his hand.

‘A medicinal pellet?’ he thought, recalling that these were traditional remedies d in the past, primarily for freshening breath.

"This is the reward?"

It seemed likely. Mason hadn’t come across something like this before, even though he remembered fetching them for others in the years to come.

His spy system activated, and some information popped up as Mason stared at the object.

"??? (Unknown-Grade - Limited Magic Item)"

- Instant Limited

It was a Magic Item, for sure. The details were fuzzy though, suggesting either the system’s level wasn’t high enough or this was an unidentifiable Magic Item.

‘All I can tell is that it’s meant to be consumed.’

Magic Items could be dangerous, and Mason knew better than to let his guard down. Even if it looked like a harmless pellet, it could be poisonous or hallucinogenic.

‘Should I risk eating it?’

After a brief hesitation, he made up his mind.

‘Yeah, if I die, that’s just fate.’

Mason wasn’t one to shy away from Magic Items, even if the odds were bad. If he died beca of one, that meant he wasn’t cut out for this life anyway.

He popped the pellet into his mouth, crunching down on it. A strong herbal flavor filled his senses.

Everything seemed normal, at first. Then, suddenly—

“Ugh!”

His body felt like it was on fire, and pain shot through him.

‘Damn, was it poison?’

Just when Mason thought he’d made a fatal mistake, something miraculous happened. The severe burns covering his arm—injuries sustained from a rebellious Magic Item—started to heal. His skin boiled and squirmed, then smoothed over as if the wounds had never existed.

“Ugh!”

By the time the pain subsided, the burns were gone.

Mason stared at his arm in disbelief. There was no ordinary medicine that could achieve such healing.

‘Now I’m sure of it.’

The pellet was a healing Magic Item, a ful find.

Based on its potency, it was at least a mid-tier Magic Item, maybe even higher.

But the surprises weren’t over yet. A new message appeared.

"You have survived the Magic Item’s venomous aura and healed yourself."

"You have unlocked " Immunity "."

“Interesting.”

Mason, now aboard a train, was taken aback.

A healing Magic Item was impressive enough, but discovering a new ability? That was completely unexpected.

‘Immunity?’

It was a concept he had never encountered before. In addition to Command and Harmony, there was something called Immunity?

He had never heard of this before, meaning it was likely unique to him.

Mason grinned.

‘If this grants immunity to a Magic Item’s venomous aura, things are about to change.’

magic items often made rs sick, their toxic energy slowly eating away at their bodies. Healing Magic Items were essential, leading to fierce monopolies over them in the past.

But Immunity?

‘No one would need healing Magic Items if they had this!’

Mason’s laughter echoed around him. It was as if some invisible hand had decided to tip the scales in his favor.

Whoever—or whatever—had brought him back to the past and given him these skills, was providing some serious perks.

‘Is it that crow Magic Item from the ruins where I died?’

He thought about the Magic Item that had been present during his death.

Whatever its reasons, whether out of boredom or some hidden agenda, Mason didn’t care. All he knew was that this mysterious benefactor had thrown him a lifeline, and he wasn’t going to waste it.

Suddenly, his phone rang.

It was the group he had tasked with gathering intel in Las Vegas.

Mason answered coldly, “What is it? The auction hasn’t started yet.”

"Ah, you picked up! We have something to show you."

“I’ll be there soon.”

But just as Mason was about to hang up, a notification appeared.

"You have been marked by an S-Grade Magic Item."

"Your future is being read."

Mason frowned. This was new, but he had a strong suspicion as to what it was.

‘The Future Diary.’

Someone, somewhere, was using that Magic Item to track his every move.

Smirking, Mason glanced at the powerful sword Magic Item he had on hand. He would deal with these annoying prophecies soon enough.

Mason leaned against the cold wall of the police station, his mind racing. His memory was sharp, almost too sharp. He could remember the smallest details from years ago, like the phone number some random stranger had given him on the street. That’s why the scene playing out in front of him felt all too familiar. It was early evening, just as he recalled. The same smug student stood behind his mother, smirking. ‘That bastard started all this after having too much to drink,’ Mason thought, clenching his jaw.The student laughed, sneering. “What’s with that stare? You’re the one who messed with me while I was studying for exams! My hand’s useless now because of you.”His mother added with fury, “The doctors say it’ll take eight weeks for him to fully recover! Are you going to take responsibility if he fails his college exams? Are you going to ruin my son’s future?”Mason couldn’t help but scoff. ‘Eight weeks to recover from that? Yeah, right.’He muttered under his breath, “What a joke.”

The memory wasn’t just painful; it was a reminder of the hellish existence he had endured.‘This isn't just about revenge,’ Mason reminded himself. ‘I need to avoid repeating that life.’His resolve solidified.
