[2] Betrayed and unsupported

For a moment Tristan stood frozen, whilst staring at the heartbreaking scene before him, the betrayal he felt at that moment could not be described with words because it felt like being pierced with a two-edged sword.

"Laura!" Tristan's voice dripped with disdain as he called out her name, causing both young adults to realize they were being watched.

"Tristan?" Laura exclaimed in surprise, never expecting to see him there. Embarrassment washed over her as she realized her boyfriend had witnessed her kissing and being intimate with someone else.

Paul, a twenty-one-year-old with a muscular build, curly brown hair, and deep brown eyes, looked at them in confusion. "You know him?"

Feeling ashamed, Laura reluctantly nodded and answered, "That's my boyfriend, the one I told you about."

Tristan felt as if he had been slapped across the face by Laura's response. Anger began to simmer within him, but he made an effort to suppress it, not wanting to act impulsively.

"Laura... you—" Tristan began to speak, but before he could finish his sentence, Paul interjected loudly.

"Maybe you should mind your own business. She doesn't want you. I provided her with something you couldn't, so back off!" Paul's words were filled with rage and annoyance, evident from his facial expression as he hastily put on his shirt, interrupted and unsatisfied from being halted midway in his pleasure.

Still attempting to maintain composure, Tristan brushed off the young man's words and turned to face Laura.

"Why?" he asked her, his tone filled with disappointment and exasperation.

"Why?" Laura responded, her voice now intimidating.

"Don't ask me why, Tristan. You should know why," Laura's cutting words shattered his heart into pieces. He never expected such actions from her, and she, in turn, never anticipated her own reactions.

"I loved you," Tristan attempted to speak again, but Paul interrupted, coming closer to the window.

"I can't stand here and watch you question her like that. So, get lost! Oh, and you even brought your books with you. Why not go read them instead of staying here and acting like a judge?" Paul's words fueled Tristan's rage, triggering the beast within him. Involuntarily, he threw the book he had taken from the library onto the floor and punched Paul across the face.

"Are you stupid, Tristan?" Laura exclaimed. "Just stop this madness or you'll end up hurting yourself."

"You'd better shut up!" Tristan interjected with a raised voice, yelling at her for the first time.

"You punched me! You stupid peacock punched me!" Paul uttered, exasperation evident in his tone. He jumped over the window and pushed Tristan in the chest, causing him to stagger backward, almost falling to the ground.

"I'll punch you again if I see you near her!" Tristan yelled at the top of his voice, feeling insulted and disregarded like never before. He clenched his fist, tempted to strike Paul once more but managed to refrain.

"I see. The little peacock wants to drag his girlfriend away from me," Paul scoffed, a smirk on his face. "Tell me, what do you have? Is it money? I have ten times more than you, in fact, double that. Is it love? I'm always available when they need me. I'm not a five-minute man like you. Is it popularity? Who the f*ck are you on this campus? Does anyone even know you exist?"

"So tell me Tristan, why would a girl see all of this," Paul ran his hand from the top of his head down to his waist for further emphasis.

" And choose to be you? Huh tell me, if you know what's best for you, back off and get lost before I lose my mind,"

Ignoring him yet again, Tristan turned to Laura and asked,

" That's what you think of me? A five-minute man, an unpopular peacock?"

" I'm sorry Tristan but you have always been a nobody, it was out of pity that I chose to be with you," her words were like blazing swords, with each word tearing his soul apart and setting them ablaze.

He had never been more humiliated, and it caused him to boil on the inside until he thundered at Laura,

" Don't tell me that Laura!" He yelled in a loud voice.

" Hey don't talk to her like that!" Paul pushed him back yet again and this time, Tristan couldn't take it, the annoyance that had built up within him erupted like a volcano without restraint.

He punched Paul across the face one more time and kicked him across his groin area. Wincing in pain, Paul endured the stomach upset owing to the impact from the kick and launched an attack on his opponent.

As if prepared, Tristan managed to dodge a few blows that were thrown at him, but the impact of the last blow caused him to fall to the ground, with blood dripping from his already wounded mouth.

"You fool, I said get lost," Paul yelled again, meanwhile Laura stayed back inside the building and watched the combat from the window, in silence.

Tristan was not ready to give up on that fight, he stood up even with the pain he felt, and dashed toward Paul in a fit of rage. However, what he did not know was that Paul was an athlete, one of the best in the school, so he was not fit enough to get into a fight with someone as fit as Paul.

But his angry self couldn't didn't stop him from taking action, his weak arms tried to punch Paul but this time, instead of trying to dodge, Paul caught his clenched fist and twisted his arm, causing Tristan to scream out in excruciating pain.

He struggled to free himself, by kicking Paul and trying to get him to fall by getting him to trip on his legs.

At this point, Laura panicked a bit, she also jumped out through the window but stayed from the skirmish to avoid getting hurt.

"Stop this madness!" She yelled at the top of her voice but neither of the battling men listened to her.

Paul did not take it easy on Tristan, for a reason best known to him, he already disliked the young man and punched him to the ground, his strength overshadowed Tristan's by a great magnitude.

"You seem not to know who you are messing with, you stupid peacock, what makes you think you can beat me huh?"

Tristan himself was surprised at the unexpected occurrence, there was nothing he could do to defend himself from the excruciating pain and torment that Paul put him through.

"You poor brat!"

Paul had beat him to the ground, punching his face multiple times, ignoring the bleeding and injuries he inflicted on Tristan, who did nothing but scream in pain, his face covered in dust and his loud screeches caught the attention of many students and soon the arena was crowded with people who watched as Tristan was beaten without Interruption, but a few of them had called the security's attention to the incident.

"There'd better be a good explanation for this nonsense else you may have to report to the disciplinary room to explain yourselves," one of the securities who arrived on the screen dragged Paul off Tristan's weak body.

Paul on the other hand was not satisfied even after seeing how bad and messed up Tristan appeared on the ground, he struggled to get back and continue but the security stopped him from doing so.

" What is going on here? " He yelled at Paul, whilst giving Tristan a pitiful look. But neither of them responded.

"I see neither of you want to speak, I may have to take action then," the security threatened with a rather intimidating tone and demeanor.

Tristan tried to pick himself off the floor, he felt too weak to even move a muscle as if his bones had been crushed by the athletic fists of his opponent.

"I was on my way to give some-'' Before Tristan could go on with his narration, in a tone of agony, Paul interrupted him.

"He tried to rape a girl," he pointed at Laura who was standing a few meters away from him, whilst falsely accusing Tristan.

A loud gasp was heard amongst the students, and there was a brief murmuring amidst them too, with everyone shocked at the revelation, each of them giving Tristan a disdainful glare.

"What are you saying, I did not do such a thing, you were making out with my girlfriend," Paul managed to say, still sitting on the floor unable to stand on his feet.

" Shut up peacock! "He said and turned to Laura.

" Tell them, Laura, isn't that the truth?"
