System Installation

Listening to Emily, the guards grabbed Dorian’s both arms and dragged him out of the door. They pushed him down the stairs and with a push, they finally let him go.

Dorian stumbled when he was pushed and fell down on the road.

“Bastard.” Giving him one last disgusted look, Emily turned around. She held the man’s arm with arrogance and smirked at Dorian before she finally went inside.

The thud of the closing door echoed in Dorian’s ears, breaking his whole world.

Everything was over. He was alone again. Everyone left him again.

He screamed those words silently in his mind, still sitting there on the ground.

The pain of rejection and betrayal sinking in his heart made him feel vulnerable. Tears started falling out of his eyes uncontrollably. All the pain which he was holding in his heart until now started coming out.

He muttered, “She can’t…”

His gaze was still stuck on the door in front of him, hoping that his wife was just joking, it was all a prank. He still wanted her to step out of the house and hug him and gently calm him down in her angelic voice.

He still clung to the hope that this all was a dream. He would soon wake up and everything would be back to normal.

"After some time, when he was sure she wouldn't come out, he looked towards the sky and cried, "Why God? Why?"

“What did I ever do to deserve all this disgrace and betrayal? Why does no one want me?”

His cries echoed as he let all his pain out. He wanted his wife to be able to hear the voice of his heart breaking. How can she be that cruel to him?

He yelled while pointing towards the door in front of him, “If that’s what you want, then okay? Let’s do it this way.” The energy he had left inside him led him to push his body upwards and stand up. He knew that his wife in the house could still hear him even though the guards had long gone, so he began yelling again, “You think you can throw me away like this whenever you want? You are a bitxh who wants nothing but money and calling me a bastard, huh? I wanna laugh at you. But don’t you worry, I will be back soon.”

Dorian kept on standing there for sometime before he finally decided to go away.

He didn’t know where he was going now. The house where he used to live was his wife’s and now he can’t even go there.

“Once again, I am alone and homeless.”

Walking alongside the road, he kicked the stone when some tears appeared in his eyes again.

“I don’t even want to live anymore. What’s the point of living now when no one wants me? I have no reason left in my life to live.”

Soon he realised he was walking on the bridge now. Turning his face to the side, he saw water everywhere and suddenly a feeling evoked inside of him.

Dorian's heart ached as he stood on the bridge, tears mingling with the cold wind whipping through his messy hair. The weight of despair threatened to suffocate him as it pressed down on him like a leaden shroud. He felt the ache in his chest not only from his wife's betrayal, but from a lifetime of struggles and disappointments.

He looked down at the churning water below, the river's surface reflecting the city's dazzling lights. It seemed so far away from the darkness that consumed his soul. He had always felt that the glittering facade of the city was a distant dream, one that seemed to elude him at every turn.

"Why does life have to be so damned unfair?" Dorian whispered to the uncaring night, his voice choked with bitterness. As a result of his rejection by his family and now by the woman he loved, he felt like a failure. Once filled with dreams and hope, his heart now resembled a barren desert.

His mind replayed the memories of his past, each one a painful reminder of the hurdles he had faced. Abandoned by his own father and stepmother, marked as a curse upon their family, he had grown up in the harsh confines of an orphanage. This place had offered no comfort, only cruelty at the hands of bullies.

"I thought happiness was out there... in that luxurious world. But I couldn't find it even after so much time," Dorian mumbled to himself. Leaving the orphanage was his only escape, but it had thrust him into a world where survival was a daily struggle.

The thought of ending it all weighed heavily on his mind as he stood on the precipice of despair. The allure of oblivion promised relief from the misery and disappointment that had engulfed him for years. A glimmer of doubt and self-preservation lingered deep within, like a flame that refused to go out.

He felt like the water was calling him. The calming sound of water calmed him down. He went near the fence of the bridge and kept on looking towards the water.

“Let’s just end this for once and all.” With that, Dorian heaved a huge sigh and put his foot on the fence.

Pushing his body up, he put his other foot up on the fence, and soon he was standing on it.

“No one will remember me even after I die. No one will care about me or cry after me.” He chuckled lightly, saying that to himself.

Closing his eyes, Dorian let himself think about everything one more time before he put his foot up in the air.

“I am coming, mom.”

Out of nowhere, Dorian's surroundings filled with an eerie glow, and a mysterious voice echoed in his mind. He quickly opened his eyes.

“What? What was that?” Turning his head here and there, he tried to find the source of the sound.

“I think I am hearing weird sounds now. Maybe people hear these kinds of sounds before dying?”

He was now sure that the voice he heard before was just an illusion.

Closing his eyes again, he tried to focus on the thing which he was about to do and that was to die..

[ Spend 1 million everyday or die. ]

“Huh?” He abruptly opened his eyes when he heard that sound again. “I am damn sure I heard the voice this time. It’s not an illusion, and it’s there in front of me.”

He tried to move back a little, but before he could say or do anything anymore, suddenly a hologram appeared before him.

[ System installation commenced. ]

[ System installation in progress. ]

[ System installed: 20% ]

“Huh? What the hell is going on? What system?” Dorian’s eyes were wide with shock.

As soon as Dorian said it, a system chart now appeared before him.

[ User name: Dorian Nightshade ]

[ Wealth: 100$ ]

[ XP: 100 / 1000 ]

Dorian’s eyes were still wide open when he heard another voice, “You will be given daily tasks from now on with a specific amount of money that you will have to spend in a day. If you won’t be able to do that you will face consequences and worse die…”

“Huh? What do you mean, die? Why would I die?” Dorian asked himself, as he was curious, he continued talking to no one in particular, “And what the hell is this? How does it appear in front of me?”

He was still standing on top of the fence while that hologram was there in front of him.

[ Ding. ]

[ Daily mission will begin tomorrow. ]

“What the hell? What are you talking about? Is this really happening?”

Dorian’s eyes went up and down, trying to find where that hologram was coming from. But he wasn’t able to do so.

He wanted himself to believe that all this was just a scam, but the hologram that appeared in front of him felt too real. It already knew about all the personal information of Dorian when Dorian didn’t even put any information in it.

“What is this? Is this a prank or something else?” Dorian chanted.

He was not taking the system notification easily.

“It’s not a prank, Dorian.” A voice came out of the hologram and this time the voice felt different, before he could only think that things were being announced to him, but now he felt like the voice was actually talking to him.

It further told Dorian, “You have been chosen and given this system.”

“Who.. Who are you?” Dorian asked, still in shock.

“I am your system.”

“What does that mean? Where are you? Why can’t I see you?” Dorian bombarded him with more questions.

“Shut up, kid. Stop asking so many questions. I already told you, I am your system and I will help you get your revenge.”

“But how do I believe you are saying the truth and not pranking me?” Dorian raised his eyebrows.

“You will get all your answers soon and you will know if I was pranking you or not tomorrow. For now, go home and get a lot of rest if you want to take your revenge.”

”But…” Dorian was just about to say something else when the hologram disappeared and the voice was gone, too.

He sighed and rolled his eyes. “Didn’t even reply to all my questions and just went away like this… such a rude system.”

“Maybe.. I should do more research on this. What if all of this is really true?” Dorian scratched the back of his head as he now started having second thoughts about his decision of suicide.

Should he really die now? What if he gets a chance to get his revenge later?

“If I die now, then I won’t be able to get any revenge, nor will I be able to let those people see my true worth. If I just die today, then after some days, everyone will forget me.” He continued thinking about this for some time before he finally decided to get off the fence.

Pushing his body to the back, he finally got off the fence. Dorian, feeling both confused and curious, decided to return to the abandoned building he once sought refuge in.

Soon he started walking again. Since he couldn’t really go back to his house now, he decided to go back to the old place where he used to live before he met his wife. It wasn’t really a place. In fact, it was just a little place on the top of an abandoned building.

The building was abandoned for a long time, which gave him the chance to live there before he got married to his wife.

As he reached there, he was also very upset about his wife. Not being sure what was happening to him, he scratched the back of his head.

He was very confused and angry. He decided to take a deep breath and relax before he could figure out what was going on.

Upon reaching there, he ascended the rusty staircase and made his way to the rooftop. He walked towards the edge of the rooftop and gazed at the city lights from there.
