Chapter 21 - Who do you work for?

Drake's eyes narrowed. "Something's wrong," he muttered, suspicion lacing his voice. He turned to Carls, his tone low and dangerous. "What did you put in her drink?"

Carls chuckled, a hint of amusement in his voice. "Who, me? Nothing at all. You can check it yourself if you want."

Drake eyed the wine warily, his suspicions holding firm.

"Look," Carls continued, "you really should stay here tonight. It's not like I'd do anything to you or Lisa. After all, she is my niece." A harsh laugh escaped his lips.

"She does seem exhausted," Drake thought. "But we can't stay. We have to meet Pierre tomorrow." He forced a smile. "Thank you for the offer, sir, but we have a tight schedule and can't stay over."

Anger flickered in Carls' eyes. "You little-" he started, but Drake cut him off.

"We'll be leaving now, thank you for your hospitality. We appreciate it," Drake said curtly, taking Lisa's arm and leading her out.
