Chapter 54

Gibson and Calista returned to Gibson's hospital room. After visiting his mother, who was still being treated, Gibson appeared slightly calmer and happier, especially when he saw the connection between Calista and his mother. They seemed close and genuinely fond of each other.

Gibson changed his clothes and sat on his bed while Calista was preparing some apples for him.

"Thank you," Gibson said, gazing at Calista with warmth.

"This isn't even all of them. Why are you thanking me now?" Calista asked, thinking Gibson was thanking her for peeling the apples.

"Not for that."

"Not for these apples?"

"Yes."

"Then what are you thanking me for? I feel like I haven't done anything except peel these apples," Calista asked, puzzled.

"Because you were kind to my mother. It seems like she really likes you," Gibson said with a broad smile, clearly delighted with the situation. Calista placed all the peeled apples on a plate, speared a fork into a piece, and handed it to Gibson.
