Chapter 14

She was rushing to go to her ward when she bumped into someone. The both of them fell to the ground. Carrisa did not have the time to take a proper look at the person that she has walked into but from his silhouette she could see that it was a man. "I'm sorry, I'm really sorry" Carrisa said. Why does she keep making so many mistakes today? First it was at the bar and now she walked into someone. Her mind was a complete mess since she found out about her grandmother. She wanted to say something more to him but someone called her name and waved to her. It was Rita. Carrisa instantly went to her.

Damian was leaving the hospital when someone walked into him, he was completely shocked. Why does he keep meeting so many incidents today? First he had to deal with that annoying woman Jeline and now some other woman walks into him?! He was prepared to yell at her but she already turned and started to walk away from him. she seemed like she was in a hurry. How can someone be like that? Damian shook his head and walked away. He really wanted to be away from this hospital now.

Rita waved eagerly to Carrisa. She had come to the hospital to see her grandmother when she saw that her condition was getting worse. To make it even more worse the doctors had refused to treat her. They said that they were not going to touch her unless they made a deposit. ! She was feeling really terrible for her friend. She knew that she was having a really hard time working several jobs trying to raise the money and so she did not want to disturb her but in the end there was nothing that she could do.

She had to call her to come to the hospital to come take a look at her grandmother. She thought that maybe if she saw her granddaughter then maybe her situation would get better. So she called Carrisa. Immediately Carrisa walked up to her, Rita stated to rant to her. "I really don't believe this hospital! How can they whatch an old woman die because of money? What do they even think that they are doing right now?!" Rita yelled. She was not in a position to help Carrisa either. Like her friend, she had the same dream. Becoming an actress. But lately, she had not been able to do anything meaningful. She had not even landed a good role and could only make a few guest appearances. She was really far from a celebrity. She was having a hard time herself so how can she help others.

Carrisa sighed. She was feeling very frustrated because of her grandmother's condition but she knew that she could not blame anyone. This was how the world worked. It was all about money. As long as you had money you could get whatever you want but if you don't have money then you could only struggle like how she was doing right now. She did not have the time or energy to brood about the attitude of other people, she had her grandmother to worry about after all.

She could only try to figure out a way to raise the money that they needed. Even though she was working several jobs now she knew that it could not compare to the money that she needed. Deep down, Carrisa was starting to think that her efforts were going to ammout to nothing soon. Will her grandmother die? "Rita, let's not think about these things now. How is my grandmother doing? Let's go and see how her condition is like first" Carrisa said. She should at least see how she is doing first.

Carrisa and Rita entered the ward. On a bed, Lola, Carrisa's grandmother was lying almost lifeless. She looked like she was going to pass out anytime soon. Seeing her grandmother in this state, Carrisa could only choke on her tears. She did not want her to see her crying and so she tried hard to hold it all back. What is she supposed to do now? How is she going to save her grandmother. She wasn't asking for much. she just wanted to live a peaceful life with her grandmother. She was okay with the fact that they had nothing, she just wanted to be with her grandmother.

Carrisa had been raised by her grandmother. She did not even know what her parents looked like. She only heard from her that her parents had died when she was just a baby. Carrisa did not like to think about those things. Her grandmother really spared no effort to make sure that she gave her a good life, as much as she can afford. And now she was in this condition. Carrisa felt really useless. There really is nothing there she can do for her grandmother. "Grandma, you, you are so sick and I can't even do anything for you, I, I am so sorry" Carrisa said.

Lola raised her head up and saw her granddaughter and her friend in the room. She was so sick that she did not even notice when the two young women came into the room she felt extremely horrible when she heard Carrisa say that she was useless. She knew just how much Carrisa had sacrificed to keep her alive up to this point. The poor kid had taken out a student loan and was going to use it for her acting college but instead she fell sick. Carrisa did not think twice about using that money for her treatment.

How on Earth could see think that such a person was useless? She had lived an extra five years because of her. She had Carrisa to be thankful for her life. She felt like she was just a burden for her. She knew this time, that it was not going to be as easy as last time. She really did not want Carrisa to suffer too much because of an old woman like her. "What do you mean useless? You have done so much, I lived an extra five years because of you. Carrisa, I really don't want to be a burden to you anymore" Lola said. She was hoping that Carrisa would let go of her now. She was old and there wasn't much that she could do anyway. Why does she have to keep trying?

Carrisa shook her head when she heard Lola's words. She would never think that her grandmother was a burden. If she was not so bent on taking care of her and giving her a good life then maybe she would not have been so sick. What kind of fate did the both of them have? Why could they not have even a peaceful day in  their lives? She had to let go of her child at an early age and instead she was burdened with a granddaughter. The two of them did not have it easy but at least they were together. And now this, she was this sick. Why, why do they have to suffer so much?

"Grandma, how can you say that you are a burden to me? I have never once thought of you as a burden. In actual truth, I am the one who is a burden to you. You lost your child in such a tragic way and instead you got a granddaughter to look after. Things weren't so great for you but you still chose to hold on to me instead of just passing up the responsibility to an orphanage. You really had a really difficult time bringing me up. How can I think of you as a burden? I'm the one who can't do anything for you right now" Carrisa said. She told herself that she was not going to cry but she could not hold back her tears for long.

Lola sighed. Carrisa did not know, how much she has helped her. Back then if she did not have this little girl in her life z she was sure that she would have lost her mind. Actually, her life had been the definition of a horror movie. Lola's husband abandoned her as soon as she had  their first child, a daughter. Not giving up, she raised her daughter by herself. But then , just when it seemed like it was going to get better, her daughter and her husband died in that tragic incident. If she did not have this little girl keeping her company back then, she would have lost her mind.

She was able to hold on and put up with everything that she was going through because she had this girl by her side. It was not Carrisa that was useless. She was the one who could not give Carrisa the carefree life that she had promised her. Since it was already like this, she did not want the girl to continue to suffer. She already gave up her dreams five years ago just so that she could save her life. She really wanted Carrisa to pursue her life now. Who knows? Maybe if she did not end up with her, she won't be so pathetic right now. "Carrisa, since it's already like this, why don't you just give up now? I'm already old, there's no need for me to continue to hold on to life I think I. . . " Lola could not continue.

Carrisa got up instantly when she heard Lola talking about giving up. What does she mean by giving up? She is already old and there is nothing that she can do anymore? Is she saying that she should just sit back and whatch her as she died? No! There was no way that she wanted to do that! As long as her grandmother is still alive, she is going to make sure that she does everything to make sure that she stays alive! She won't be leaving her side at all! Does she think that it is that easy to give up on a family member? She definitely won't give up on her at all.

"Grandma, what are you even saying right now? You want me to give up on you? You want me to just sit back and whatch you die? You know that there is no way that I'm going to do something like that! As long as there is a way I am going to make sure that I find a way for you to continue to live. The doctor said that there is hope. We just need to have surgery! Once you get surgery, you are going to be fine! You don't need to worry. You are going to be fine! You did not give me up when my parents died back then, so why will I give up now?" Carrisa asked.

Lola sighed. She knew that as long as she had surgery, there was still hope for her. But she already knew what the situation was like. Getting a surgery was not as easy as it sounded. When the doctor had come to give her a regular check-up earlier on, she has badgered him until he told her what was really going on with her. she could have surgery but the money was not an ammout that her granddaughter would come up with even if she sold herself! She already gave up on her dream five years ago because of her, how can she let this poor kid continue to suffer?

She knew that Carrisa was having a really hard time. She did not say anything to her just now but she already knew that she was having a really hard time. She was probably running around, doing various kinds of jobs trying to find the money, but where could she get fifty thousand dollars from in a short amount of time? It was practically impossible. "Carrisa, you don't have to lie to me. I know what the situation is like. I know, that you have to get a huge amount of money for the surgery. Why do you have to suffer for me?" Lola asked her.
