Approximately Ten hours ago, before Mon’Ter stumbled onto the large room inside of the underground hideout.
…
Mon’Ter had just left in search of clues on his own, he had wanted to help contribute somehow since all he had been doing till then was just walk along together with the two girls, Elyenora and Shana.
After he told them that he’d go look around, his visage quickly vanished among the crowds and the two girls went on along their own way.
Shana had advised they go visit one of the shadier people among the brokers, it was a ways away from where they stood now however within an hour or so they managed to reach their destination.
They walked down a few old murky alleyways which got progressively dirtier the more they walked through them, in the end it led them to a cover made out of some old dark red rags made of fur.
Upon moving past the cover, Elyenora and Shana stumbled onto a small clearing between the city buildings. There seemed to be a small market place here, with a decent number of cloaked figures roaming about them and inspecting the merchandise.
It was a black market of sorts, where people sold illegal items ranging from drugs, to rare poisons and even some exceedingly expensive weapons made with dreadful metals unlike the usual iron and steel or luxurious mithril and adamantine.
Weapons made from metals such a Mordax, an ore that has corrosive properties and is banned from use due to the grotesque results that the victims of such blades face, pain unlike a mere slash is the least of your worries as you slowly melt wherever you might have been cut at.
“This is Breles’ black market then?” Elyenora asked, turning to Shana.
“Yup, I used to follow some shady people around as a kid you know!” Shana puffed her chest out, “There was quite a few times I met up with cutthroats and illegal merchants! My friend who we’re about to meet is whom I have to thank for this life filled with thrill, Hahaha!”
“You seem rather proud of that background, huh?” Elyenora grinned, finding the way she bragged to be funny.
“Of course! It did end up teaching me how to fight after all, although not as capable as you Ely, I can handle my own just fine.” Shana grinned widely,
“I guess you really do have such a habit like the carriage owner said, huh?” Elyenora suppressed a giggle.
“Hey I don’t brag that much... Do I? I don’t think I do...” Shana replied in confusion as the two walked over towards a man that stood before his tent.
He had a small rag placed in front of him and seemed to be selling an array of different poisons which could even kill Rare class beasts.
The man in question was middle-aged, perhaps in his late thirties with a badly trimmed beard and a multitude of scars on his face, one of which ran down all the way from his left ear up to his mouth.
He had auburn brown short curly hair and eyes of the same color, wearing a dark cloak over his normal plain cotton shirt and leather pants that were made out of the skin of some beast.
“Hey there Derry Derek ol’ pal!” Shana said, raising a hand with a smile to say hello. “Long time no-” However before she could finish, the man in question cut her off.
“Oh, hell no! What in the name of the goddess are you doing here Shana? Get out of my sight you stupid girl!” The man, Derek, bellowed in obvious anger.
“Ehhh? Come on old man! Don’t be a such a sore face! I’m here to ask for some assistance is all.” Shana said in persuasion.
“The last time I assisted you, I had to get you and your little brother out of a den full of thieves that ended up destroying my face as a whole! I mean look at this scar girl! How am I supposed to show my face around people without them thinking I’m some thug, huh?!” Derek bellowed, angry while thinking of the past.
“You have a little brother?” Elyenora commented on the side, looking towards Shana.
“Yeah I do in fact have one.” She replied, “He’s a cute little critter that one, turned ten last month in fact!”
“Hey! Don’t just ignore me after coming to ask for help!” Derek shouted, gaining their attention back.
“Sorry, sorry! Look, I apologized for that time okay? I was really just curious to see if we could steal some of their money and buy some stuff!” Shana replied, smiling wryly as she spoke of her past.
“Steal some money... From bandits?? With a five year old in tow?!” Derek bellowed more and more with each sentence, he seemed to just be getting angrier at the girl.
“He was six! And hey, I was only fourteen at the time! Can’t blame a fair maiden in the making.” Shana flipped her hair with a grin.
“Where do you get so much stupidity and so much confidence from?” Derek murmured, having pretty much been done with her antics.
“Hehe,” Elyenora could simply smile softly to the side, feeling that things were rather complicated between these two. “Seems like you two get along well.”
“We don’t!” Derek shouted, while Shana said, “We do!”
“Ugh! Just, tell me what you need so I can get this over with, you only ever cause trouble to me specifically and I don’t know why!” Derek said, facepalming all the while.
“Well sir,” Elyenora stepped up, “I’d like to inquire about the child kidnapping that have been happening in recent times, anything you know involving the city lord Jalid Talherd would be much appreciated if you’d share it.”
“Talherd? You wanna know about that guy? If I told you anything about his business, they’d cut my throat.” Derek spoke more quietly, “Shana I swear to the goddess if you get me into trouble with this...”
“I won’t, I won’t!” Shana cupped her hands in plea, “You obviously know something so please, please tell us! We’re willing to pay even!” She spoke in a hushed voice.
“It’ll cost you a fair penny if you want my lips pried open, this is serious business. The stuff I’m sure you already know about should be a good indication of that.” He replied.
“Yes, and its exactly because I know that I need to act upon it.” Elyenora said confidently, gazing at the man with her sunset like eyes which radiated a sense of light.
“Mmm, are you a noble missy?” Derek asked, looking at her eyes, “If so then I have even less of a clue as to why you’re here of all places trying to save a bunch of no name brats.”
“Those ‘brats’ as you called them are simple children! Knowing Talherd and his reputation, who knows what atrocities he’s up to with them.” Elyenora replied, visibly angry at the man’s words.
“Don’t get feisty with me now! Come now, I’ll treat you girls to some tea.” Derek spoke, turning to his tent, “I’ve got some in my tent here with all the goods.”
“You’re not gonna poison us are you...?” Shana asked, a bit worried at the prospect of an illegal poison maker serving tea.
“Do I look that awful to you?” The man asked while turning back, his heavily scarred face not giving him much credit in that regard.
“You do.” Shana replied solemnly.
“And who’s fault is that!” He bellowed.
“Mine.” she replied curtly.
“...” Derek had no words for that much honesty, “Just come on inside already, you dumb girl...”
The three people ended up entering Derek’s tent, it wasn’t too small but with three people it did get a little crowded.
“Since you’re friends with Shana, the little bugger, and of course are willing to pay, I’ll cut you a deal.” Derek spoke to Elyenora. “Give me a single gold coin and I’ll tell you all I know about the on goings that Jalid Talherd is doing.”
“A-A gold coin?? You money grabber!” Shana bellowed.
“Shush child! Normally I wouldn’t say squat even if you beat me for it, this information is delicate within the city after all and could get me into trouble.” Derek replied.
“Fine then,” Elyenora replied, “You can have your gold coin.” She said and held out the one piece of gold that she had gained from robbing Almer Talherd in her hand.
She had not only taken his teeth, dignity and pride. But of course, also his coin bag as previously mentioned.
In it there was a single gold coin, nearly twenty-two silver ones and about fifty-seven copper coins.
In total that meant that Elyenora’s current bag held approximately One gold, forty silver and one hundred thirty-seven copper coins.
“Pleasure doing business with you then.” Derek grinned as he took the coin, “Now listen up cause I’m not repeating this a second time.”
“Okay, tell me.” Elyenora said and crossed her arms.
“Hey where’s the tea?” Shana asked, a tad confused.
“Shush child,” Derek told Shana, whom promptly pouted in return,
Turning back to Elyenora afterwards, Derek spoke. “Jalid Talherd has been taking in kids from the slums for the past month and a half, I’m not entirely sure what he does with them however he shuts anyone that dares question it up. To my knowledge from my informants, the place he takes the children to is somewhere beneath the city. Old legend has it that this city was built atop of an old dungeon that was cleared out a few hundred years ago. That’s the basics of the situation.” He explained, looking at Elyenora.
“And the more specific part?” She asked.
“The more specific part is that there’s a group that is against Talherd’s wrong doings, they know a lot more than me, like the entrance of the place, and want to stop the whole operation of the f*cker. Even kill him from what I’ve heard.” Derek replied.
“Where is this group then? They do base themselves in this city, right?” Elyenora asked.
“Indeed, you can find them in the red-light district in fact. Just make sure to go there after ten o’clock, else it’d be harder to meet up with them.” Derek explained, “There’s a brothel called the Red Night of Bliss, underneath it is a decently sized bunker that serves as the group’s base. To get in you’d need to know a code.”
“What’s the code?” Shana asked this time while popping her head closer to Derek’s face, annoying him a little in the process.
“On the red night’s eve, we shall strike at the dungeon’s core.” Derek said, giving them his answer.
“Got it, is there anything else?” Elyenora asked, curious for more information.
“Other than the fact Jalid’s a tougher cookie to take down than you might think so you should stride with care, that’s it.” Derek replied, “Now go get ready and meet up with the guys over there! The longer you’re here the more trouble you cause me!”
“Fine, fine.” Shana sighed, “We’re off Derry! Thank you again!”
“Thank you for your time and help, I hope we’ll meet again under better circumstances.” Elyenora spoke solemnly and took off outside.
“See you when I see you, tsk.” Derek clicked his tongue, glad that the problem child name Shana was now gone and hoping that this wouldn’t end too bad for him like the other time.
‘Why do I have a soft spot for that damn child... None of this is worth it.’ He thought and let out a sigh.
The two girls proceeded to leave the black market like place soon after, going back to the main streets.
...
The two girls walked over on the main street once more, Elyenora humming in a little joyful mood since she’d found out a good piece of information finally.
“Hey, Ely.” Shana spoke up.
“Yes?” Elyenora asked, turning to her as the two walked.
“I’m glad we got to find some information and stuff after all the duds today,” Shana spoke, smiling since she was happy to have helped. “Of course, due to my awesome connections!” She puffed her chest out in pride.
“Pfff, Haha!” Elyenora laughed, “Yes you did help out quite a bit there Shana, I just hope Mon’Ter is going to be back by the time I go speak to that group whom are against Jalid Talherd.” She said.
“Yeah, about that...” Shana spoke, “Do you mind if I meet up with you later too?” She asked.
“Oh? Not at all. You’ve already more than repaid your debt from before!” Elyenora smiled in understanding. “If there’s anything you’d need I’m more than grateful enough to give back the kindness.”
“Thank you!” Shana smiled, “I just wanna go check up on my little brother, it’s been about a week since I last saw him so I’m sure he misses me by now, hehe.” She said with a giggle.
“Is he with your parents?” Elyenora asked, a tad curious.
“Uhm...” Shana stopped in her tracks, prompting Elyenora to do the same. “No, we’re both Orphans you see...” She fiddled with her fingers a little, “He’s at the local Orphanage waiting for me to come back from work.”
“Oh dear... I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have spoken without knowing.” Elyenora got worried, thinking she might have offended her new found friend.
“It’s okay Ely, I’m used to it after all! I just feel rather sad that he’ll never get to see our mother or father’s faces...” Shana replied, as if reminiscing of old times with a sad gleam in her eyes.
“Hm,” Elyenora smiled, hoping to brighten the mood. “Well in that case I shouldn’t keep his good old sister locked up with lil ol’ me forever now, right? Go meet up with the kiddo, send him a hug from me too!” She grinned as she patted Shana’s shoulder.
“I will, thank you Ely!” Shana smiled kindly, still happy to have assisted her new friend. “I’ll be seeing you later okay? Goodbye for now!” She waved good bye and rushed towards the direction of the orphanage.
“Goodbye, Shana! See you later as well.” Elyenora waved, turning around and proceeding with her humming as she walked once more.
She had a few hours to kill so the obvious course of action would be to grab a bite at some local food place!
‘I just wish Mon’Ter hadn’t run off, he’d get some delish stuff to eat too then.’ She thought whilst still humming, enjoying the breeze of the slowly fading daylight.
…
Having spent the better half of her time waiting for the clock to hit ten around food stalls, Elyenora had a happy smile on her face as she chewed on some barbecue skewers. ‘It’s almost ten o’clock now, I should head towards the red-light district.’ Elyenora thought, munching on the last part of her food as she shifted her gaze towards the turning streets. The night had already fallen and many magical street lights had begun shining to illuminate the surroundings, the crowds around the main streets lessened significantly however the absence of people didn’t last long. After walking for a while across the streets, Elyenora finally entered the red-light district which was filled with its many night time activities. The people there were once more abundant and there was a bountiful number of loosely dressed women vying for the attention of the passing men, seeing them as potential customers. Walking through the thick crowds, she hummed in a low tone since she was pleased at th
“T-The crown...?” Nadia stuttered, shock filling her visage. Why wouldn’t she be shocked? Elyenora was not only the second born, but also a princess. So how could she possibly dream of taking the crown for herself? “Yes, the crown. Due to some circumstances my brother cannot be allowed to officially ascend to the throne, he cannot be crowned.” Elyenora spoke in a determined voice. “W-What do you mean?” Nadia questioned, the situation having risen by several dozen levels. “Let’s just say that he would make for a terrible ruler.” Elyenora answered, pushing the contract paper closer to Nadia. “Go ahead, read it.” “Okay then...” Nadia said, grabbing the paper while trying to regain her composure. ‘Is this woman nuts...? How does she ever plan on taking over the kingdom?! Is that why she’s travelling alone...?’ Nadia thought as she carefully read through the contract. Nothing was wrong with it, Elyenora would help her ascend to the position of city lord by killing her father
The raid assault group which had been formed from Nadia’s endeavors and Elyenora’s ‘light’ push now numbered seventeen people, they all had good equipment on them and gazes that radiated with confidence. While walking down the steep staircase that slowly lost any semblance of light which the moon had been providing, Melissa raised her finger and wrote a couple of Runes in the air. Shortly after, a ball of light shone and moved in front of the group, acting as a sort of lantern for them in the dark. “Nice spell Melissa, definitely beats using torches.” Trygg, the leader of the knight group commented. “Yeah, and it paints us as a big bright target in these dark hallways.” Jorky added with an annoyed tone. “So, you’d rather we trip over holes and stones or smash our heads in walls? Get ambushed from the dark from missing a turn filled with enemies? Yeah, no thank you.” Melissa countered, sneering at the comment. “Just stay on guard at all times, we need to be ready for anything.” El
During the combat against the remaining seven enemies, three knights each occupied one assassin, pushing them back long enough for someone else to swoop in and decimate them. Three such cases ended with Drull, Siya and Jorky ending an assassin each. The other four fell at the hand of Elyenora and Trygg, three to the princess and one to the knight leader supported by arrows. It was a swift victory despite facing powerful adversaries. “Booyah!” Jorky exulted excitedly. “Good job everyone, nice fight!” Trygg heaved, wiping some sweat off his forehead. “These guys are from the assassin’s guild, no wonder they were so tough.” Drull commented. “Aye, but we got em good!” “Assassins or not we showed them who’s boss!” “Ain’t nothing like a good ol’ round of team work, ey guys?” Some of the knights bantered, proud of the achievement. Assassin guild members were no joke, their speed and agility in combat is second to none amongst the other factions, they’re feared as silent killers tha
Elyenora held the emerald orb in her free hand, looking over the battle as she did so. Eight of the peak Rare Class assassins were currently battling against eight of the knights as well as Trygg, Jorky, Siya and Drull. Two knights faced off against one assassin while the aforementioned four fought one each. “What’s that supposed to be?” The short assassin with the jagged dagger asked. Elyenora gave no reply, simply firmly grasping the orb and readying herself to use it by pouring her magic power into it. Despite that however, she was abruptly stopped by the assassin leader who rushed towards her at top speed. He pulled out a pair of twin daggers, their blades were as black as night and seemed to have a black shadow like line going along their edges, the assassin leader slung them both in quick succession towards Elyenora’s vitals. “Tsk!” Clicking her tongue, Elyenora could only move her free hand to the side along with the orb as she blocked the man’s attack with her rapier.
“A berserker you say?” Jerrion mused, seeming to have gotten excited. “I haven’t fought one of that ilk in quite a while! Bring it on, you bald bastard!” He bellowed as he entered his stance. “Bald this, bald that... Are you all this unoriginal up in the assassin’s guild? You cockatrice sh*t stained rat?” Jorky roared, pointing his axe at the assassin. “Drull,” He gazed to the side, “Go ahead, I’ll murder the F*** outta this guy!” Nodding his head, Drull replied, “I’ll hold you to it then, be sure to survive this Jorky.” He said and ran towards Siya and Elyenora. “Heh, I’ll be needing some booze after this one, so you’d better be paying Drull...” Jorky murmured, swallowing the berserker pill while Jerrion waited in anticipation. The berserker pill was practically considered to be a poisonous substance that winds up putting anyone who swallows it at a severe risk, only the most clinically insane individuals would dare to even consider it as an option, those who do use it are always
Elyenora’s wind covered visage brought fear unto the assassins, even the Noble Class Leonard had to admit this was above his capabilities to handle. This girl who had a wounded leg could move this quickly? This is already bordering on the higher ends of Noble class... To put her speed into perspective, the words, “You’re next.” only sounded when Elyenora had already appeared before Crux with her rapier pulled back and ready to pierce through the short assassin. Crux tried to counter by putting his dagger in front of Elyenora’s trajectory, however after a few strikes his small blade shattered to pieces. He, much like Leonard, had been using a Dwarven crafted weapon with a rather disturbing enchantment that made people blow up into bloody puddles upon contacting it, despite that Elyenora’s blade was far superior in all terms when compared to it. Korgen, the head blacksmith of Benulis kingdom’s royal court, was no short of a miracle worker even amongst dwarves after all. His crafts w
After the other two rare class assassins followed the third, Willson’s, instructions and lured Mon’Ter to him, he led the monstrous man to the hideout and was promptly knocked out after which Mon’Ter went inside. Mon’Ter had passed through many halls and rooms, finally arriving at the third large room which was the biggest of all, he had passed the previous battleground where all the fights from before had taken place and arrived here. Walking through the hall and entering inside the room filled with magical runes as well as carvings that were depicting warriors battling an eye like figure. In the center of this room was a huge fountain like altar with a pedestal on top, obviously there to serve some kind of purpose. The details of the room mattered little to the one who had entered it however, since through the thick darkness of the area he could see the visage of a chained girl at the far end of the room. She was placed near the other exit, just left there to lay with her face
Just as Mon’Ter was busy rotting on the inside, Samuel and Sereia were finally able to get back on their feet. Samuel could now see properly and move around, and Sereia had drunk a high grade healing potion that brought her back up to speed. “Agh… My back was killing me there…” Sereia said as she stretched, trying to get herself back into shape. “Do I even need to mention my head…?” Samuel held it, he still felt like it would start spinning again but thankfully it was over. “We really need to go and help Mon’Ter out,” Sereia mumbled out loud. “It seems like he got two of them but he’s facing that guy that my dad said was the best assassin in the world…” Still, they were a bit far away from the chimera and couldn’t assist him right away, especially since Mon’Ter’s fear came true. “It seems like we have our own troubles to deal with first…” Samuel pointed out as he gazed at the sky above them. “Huh? That guy again?” Sereia said in annoya
As Mon’Ter stood in a confrontation between himself and the three assassins, Sereia and Samuel did their best to catch their bearings and get to assisting him rather than being a burden for him. Thankfully, Samuel had some recovery potions on him, but due to his issue with coordination caused by Hendrick’s eye ability, he couldn’t move his arms in the right direction much less find where he’d stored the bottles. And as for Sereia, she actually did try to get to Samuel and find the potions for him, but, given how wounded her back really was she was having some difficulty pushing herself to stand back up and move towards his bag. Of course, this would only take her seconds to do in real time, maybe ten or twenty, but in the moments of combat those seconds would be more than enough for her and him to lose their lives at once many times over. They were dealing with assassins after all, and while these assassins were definitely slowed down from the g
Just as Elyenora was dealing with Alinesia with the help of Randus’ Gravity Zone spell, so were Sereia and Samuel working on using the spell to their advantage too. Seeing as they were able to outmaneuver their respective match ups and bring down two specters, they had now managed to get away from the other two old men who’d targeted them and made their way towards where Mon’Ter was being held down by Alinesia’s parents. That, of course, didn’t take long at all with the help of Samuel’s teleportation magic.Sereia quickly landed right over the female assassin with super long nails, Allison, while Samuel waltzed right into her husband, Hendrick, and swung straight at his arms that were holding Mon’Ter’s head up close to his eye level. On Sereia’s end, things were quickly and easily dispatched. Having had the jump on the opponent she was able to instantly get Allison to dodge her first blow and leave Mon’
With Alinesia’s light blinding everyone, Randus was able to easily move about by practicing a simple spell to allow his eyes to perceive past the blinding shine of her. He had basically created pseudo shades on his face which he used to escape from Lerroy’s immediate reach.During the course of the battle so far, the two of them had been flying high up in the air and blasting each other with all manner of magical spells, it had gotten to the point that most of the soldiers down below were getting nervous just by standing underneath them. However, Randus hadn’t just been mindlessly flying about and chucking explosions at his old master, no, of course not, he wouldn’t be where he is at today if he did something so basic. The whole time they were moving around the air space, Randus had been leaving small sigils in specific locations high above the ground and laying out a layer filled circle of magic large enough to encompass most of the existing su
Alinesia had completed her transformation, however, she wasn’t the only one making moves during that last minute of action. There were still many people on the battlefield, and the ones who made the biggest change aside from her, were definitely Randus, Samuel and Sereia who all made good use of the previous minute or so of time.On their side of the field, just as Elyenora and Alinesia were having their clash of wills, Samuel and Sereia both found themselves pushing against their respective spectral opponents. It had gotten to the point where they were chasing after these Low ranking Arch Lord Class entities as if they were hunting rabbits. It was at this time that both Gandar, the court mage of the Royal palace and the elderly master of the assassin’s guild intervened on their little chase. Gandar shot through the sky atop a conjuration of wind and flew near enough to be within his range of Samuel, he weaved his staff and made a spiraling motion with it b
Back to the princess’ side of the field, where she was facing off against a previous foe. Elyenora could feel that things weren’t going her way at all, she knew it in her heart with every strike she sent towards Alinesia and every second she wasted on fighting against her. But what could she do while everyone was being held back like this? There was one and only thing she could really do to try and help out.Ending the fight swiftly.Alinesia had certainly grown significantly since their last fight, she was more than the princess’ match even after Elyenora had gotten her significant growth spurt after releasing the spiritual cultivation shard from her body. However, it didn’t seem like the Lioness would be able to keep up with Elyenora if she just made a simple action and unleashed her newly acquired artifacts.“I’m sorry, but I’ll be ending our little rematch early,” the princess said as she pushed back on the fla
Cazimir fell, cut in half and in a completely stupefied state. Someone meant to have been on his side, an ally, had just taken him down. His bloodied eyes shone with a bright light and created shadow soldiers that tried to hold him back together, barely, even as his own blood and organs left his body to splatter down on the ground. “W–wh–y…?” Cazimir asked as only one of his eyes barely managed to move and look at Finn. “Because you interfered where it was not your place, stupid assassin,” Finn said, his eyes wider than an open door and staring the vampire down with intense pressure behind his every word. “Couldn’t you follow simple instructions? I told you. Don’t interfere with my fight. Leonidas is mine to do battle with.” “Bast–ard…” Cazimir barely mumbled out, and with another glow of his eyes he forced the soldiers to move him about ten meters away from the now enemy. With yet another glow, he summoned out a potion that fell from a litt
Alinesia glared at Elyenora with her fiery blade burning at her side. “It’s sure been a while, hasn’t it?”“You again?!” Elyenora clicked her tongue, she had been forced to stop right in her tracks by her once again, for the second time. “Why are you here!?”“Why?” Alinesia grit her teeth. “Did you seriously ask me why, you blond bimbo?!”“What?” The princess felt a little taken aback by the assassin’s words. “Don’t you understand what you’re working towards right now? Do you even know what my brother is trying to do!? It’s all foolish! Why would you work for him? You’re smarter than that!” Elyenora tried to change her mind if she could, though, it didn’t seem like Alinesia was here for money or anything of the sort by the look on her face.“You think I’m here just because that prince twat brother of yours asked t
“We kill all of them to get to him,” Mon’Ter’s voice reverberated throughout the entire space, being heard by everyone that surrounder him and his comrades. It caused several laughs to erupt, which then continued into multiple more and more until the entire enemy legion made a laughing stock out of Mon’Ter’s words.“Bold words from someone bound to die,” Gandar, the royal court mage, snickered at his words. “Who even are you, boy? Another knight? Not with that get up you’re not. Perhaps a mage? Shall I teach you some proper manners in speech?”“I’d actually like that,” Mon’Ter said truthfully. “But it’s not the time to be learning manners.”His hand extended and his fingers grew as his nails elongated into sharp swords capable of piercing the thickest of hides and slashing the hardest of steels. The strange development caused many to put their guard
