Chapter 6: Plans of the Wicked

Clark’s POV

Born in a wealthy family, I don’t even know what the term family means to other people. For me it isn’t it just… a group of people who share the same blood? A mother, a father, and a child. That was it?

But it seems like they are all wrong all this time. That isn’t a family at all. A family doesn’t need to share the same blood in order for it to be called as one. And in this life that I had, ever since I was a child, there is just one person whom I will recognize as my family.

My mother who gave birth to me? No.

My father who gave me that blood of Montediore? No.

It is not them… It was…

That kind old man who took care of me when I got lost.

‘What are you doing out here?’

His very face is still clear in my mind. That was the first time I saw someone look at me with that kind of eyes.

Care… worries… not for themselves but… for… me.

‘I am thirsty…’

‘You are thirsty?’

And when I asked for water, he gave me much more than that. The time I was hoping to receive from those who bring me into this world, the warmth that filled me as he held my hand… I will always carry those memories in my mind… I will carry it with me… for always…

Indeed, it wasn’t a person I grew up calling mom and dad but… a stranger who offered his hand to help me.

He was the only person who reached out to me and get me out of that cage.

But because of me… that very man… is almost on his deathbed… once again…

Holding the screen separating him from the outside of his room, I dare not go inside. Even in just a little thing… I want to do something right. I come from many places and even just a small virus can make his life be at risk.

Holmet Quintelon…

‘I promise to protect you this time… grandpa… so please, hold on. Don’t give up’

Thinking about what happened back then, I shook my head, not wanting to imagine that unfavorable moment.

“Clark, what are you doing here?”

Looking at the owner of that voice, it was Uncle Isidro

“Hi…”

Standing beside me, he also looks at my grandpa. Uncle… I know that he did his very best to save Grandpa even before. And until now, he didn’t change one bit.

It was unexplainable how I manage to be back in time… but I am glad that I have the chance to save my grandfather. Unlike last time… when I was so helpless.

“How is he?”

“Your grandpa is a strong man, Clark”

That statement surely made me smile. If there is anyone who is worthy of the title of a strong man, that would surely be Grandpa.

“He surely is… with no doubt”

We both chuckled. It is a relief that he is doing good.

“The surgery will be done tomorrow. We checked his vitals and stats, if nothing is wrong, tomorrow will be the day”

Patting my back, it was slightly a strong pat.

“I still can’t believe it… Clark. You did your best”

“Uncle… I’ll leave him to you”

“I will do all that I can to make sure everyone will do their very best in the surgery. Clark.”

Smiling, I was surprised when he suddenly pushed the hat that I was wearing off my head.

“Hey-“

“What’s with that cool outfit huh? That ain’t like you at all. Don’t you like wearing just house clothes?”

“Stop, I am not a kid- Ouch what the- why would you prick my forehead of all??”

Hissing in pain, the bump on my forehead from a while ago still hurts a bit. Even though my pain tolerance is quite higher than normal people, the bump looks worst than when I bump my arm last night. But now it is a bit worst than a while ago. Thanks to him… I wonder how can Simon keep his cool dealing with his uncle. I sigh.

Shaking his head, I just heard him giggle.

“Is that a bump? That was quite a big bump you got there. But what exactly happened? Only a fool would have that big bump on his forehead at this age”

Avoiding his gaze, there is no way I will tell him I got this because of ‘that’. There is no way.

Not stopping with his laughter, thankfully a nurse came to call him.

“Dr. Henerman, we need you in the room 405”

“Sure, copy that”

Waving my hand a goodbye as I hold my forehead with my other hand, I was lucky to catch the thing he throw at me without even a notice.

“What’s this?”

“A patch, what else? Treat that first, you look like a beluga whale”

Laughing as he leaves me with a furrow on my face, that guy… he always finds time to make fun of us… I feel bad for Simon

“You never change…”

I can’t help but blur out. But… of all the animals he could think of… a beluga whale? Does my bump look that bad?

Chuckling at myself, I didn’t notice but my eyes unconsciously look at where my grandfather was.

Letting out a deep sigh, speaking of change… I did look like a different person. I look like someone else as I see my reflection in this glass.

But no matter what happens… I will always be me.

That is what Grandpa always says…

“I am still me… and that is what matters the most”

Looking at my very hand, it still feels different. It is like… I was on the cliff yesterday. And now… I am back again. I am… here…

Letting out a deep sigh, I knew I still have time. The time before that break out occur. I remember it happened years after elements grew. Not all people possess such powers. Only chosen people have such thing as affinity in elements. It you are a genius, you would probably get a two or three. But ever since that break out occur, almost all people got an affinity. And the limit is not just three.

I manage to get nine before I died. It is thanks to the system I got.

The system…

My eyes stared at my grandfather.

It was thanks to the system that I manage to survive…

I did come back in the past yet… my system is gone…

Grandpa… I only have one chance… if I fail…

A sudden feeling of discomfort suddenly struck my spine. This odd feeling…

My eyes widened.

I would only feel this tense if I knew someone is watching me. Living that life where anytime I could die, I can say my senses grew much stronger than before.

Who-

But as soon as I look around, no one was there. Am I… am I just hallucinating?

Maybe it is the bump that made me feel off. But… somehow… I can’t seem to calm down.

End of Clark’s POV

“What a clever guy he is… you are telling me he discovers that hidden camera that fast? There is no way that he would just accidentally put his robe in front of the camera. I can barely see anything at all!”

A knock then made her close her laptop.

“Sister, are you still up?”

“Leo, what are you doing here?”

Seeing how her younger brother is holding a plate of cookies and milk drink in his hands, that made her slightly giggle.

“Are you gonna do this forever?”

“Probably?”

Laughing, even though they are both in the age of getting married they are still single like what they planned to be.

“You should just go get yourself a wife”

“Nah, too much hassle”

Shaking her head, she went back to open her laptop. Immediately closing the tab she was looking at, Leo started to eat the snacks he brought.

“But how about you? Why not get yourself a husband? I heard many letters arrived today as well. Most of them are named for you”

“Shut it, Leo. As if there is a single decent guy out there. For sure they all want me for the money we have”

“Money we have or money that grandpa has?”

Realizing her words, Lea didn’t speak for a short while.

“I never once thought of him as my grandpa. You probably know that”

“Sis… well. Never mind that. Here have some cookies. Don’t you like this one?”

Rolling her eyes, all she can ever do was let out a sigh as she still took the cookies her dear brother offered.

“There there, isn’t it tasty?”

“Yeah, thanks. But… really, stop treating me like a kid. Will you?”

All he just did was give her that bright smile.

“You…”

“Hmm?”

“You really don’t want to fight for that seat?”

Staring at his sister, Leo knew what she was talking about. But still, he can’t help but still ask.

“You mean the seat left by Grandpa?”

“Yeah, don’t you wish to have that bounty?”

“Do you wish to have that?”

“I- why did you ask me? I was the one asking you”

Shutting close her laptop, Lea knew too well what she wants and what she hates. And for her, it is clear as crystal.

“I am just thinking… isn’t it supposed to be ours? We are just basically taking back what was supposed to be ours… don’t you think so?”

“Just a day and he already uses that much money?” Henry chuckled as he sip some good wine.

Claret was with him, she was stressing over how she didn’t manage to get money from her son. It would be better if Henry didn’t say anything about that, it is what she thought.

“All right, and how about the person that followed him?”

“He got away, Sir”

“Hmm, sure sure. I expect this much from my son. Surely he will be a good card to use. Don’t bother him much. But make sure to get what I ask for”

“Yes sir”

Soon as the door closed, Henry look at Claret- whose face was sour as she can’t help but be annoyed at her own husband.

“Are you still mad at me?”

“As if I wouldn’t be. You ruined my plan! How am I supposed to get that much money again??”

Letting out such a sigh, Henry smiled at her as he let his hand pat her shoulder.

“Get off me, don’t touch me I am still mad”

“Isn’t what we did a good move to get closer to him? By doing that he will trust us. And don’t you think it is but small money compared to what that old man’s successor would gain?”

Hearing such words, Claret can’t help but have a smirk on her face. Henry was right. That much money is nothing compared to what they can receive if ever Clark became Ofiello’s successor.

“Now that you say that… you are not wrong. Why did I even forget about it”

Smiling as anger was finally out of her system, she can’t remove the smile she had.

“And the first thing we would do is kick those pests out of this place. Right, Henry?”

“Right, they can do nothing to us if Clark became the successor”

Suddenly standing up, Claret remembers something.

“Henry, before I forget about it, what do you think about this? I asked Maurisia to prepare these things.

Tons of boxes were there, a gift box, and some of it looks a bit old. Some even have some hint of dust on its box.

“And what was that for?”

“For Clark. It was what I prepared to get him on our side. Isn’t it cute to have someone prepare gifts for you even if you are gone? Don’t you think he would like things like this?”

A chuckle then escaped Henry’s lips. It was indeed true that he hates Claret for her annoying choices in life but one thing he likes about her is how she was able to give him amazement day by day.

“You never fail to surprise me, Claret. That surely is a good idea you got”

“Right, right”
