11 – Craving for Something

"I don't even know the order of tonight's matches." Lognar rubbed his hands together in anticipation. "So, every entrance makes my heart feel like it's going to explode because it's beating so fast!"

The light shone into the entrance, showing a woman in a bright pink and green dress standing with her back to the audience. Unlike before, no one cheered.

They were confused why the twin-tailed woman formed a heart with her fingers above her head, not because they hated that next fighter.

Something like the sound of a rotating tool echoed, followed by a catchy melody, then an upbeat tempo. That woman with a slender stature started to shake her hips.

A series of pink heart graphics decorated the expansive screen. Then several texts appear in turn.

[NIA]

[THE BRIGHTEST]

[IDOL]

"I really don't know what to expect from this young lady." Lognar shook his head, also confused by that presentation.

"You know nothing, Lognar." Matt chuckled.

"The world doesn't always give her hope."

"But she still ran forward with great determination."

"She aimed at his heart, ready to take action."

"Using love drill, she will obliterate any obstacles."

As the stadium speaker fired off the lyrics with her cute vocals, Nia turned around and started dancing, showing a series of energetic moves with a smile. And finally, the audience's screams broke out, this time dominated by the men. Some of them even whistled aloud.

With an incredibly stiff movement, Rory turned his head to the president, who only gave a thumbs up. The warrior could only lower his chin, unable to understand what he was seeing.

"Are you out of your mind, Mr. President!?" Lognar held his head, but his mouth let out a laugh. "How can you bring something like that into a fight!? But oddly enough, I want to dance with her!"

"Love drill, love drill, she hopes to broke his frozen heart." The lyrics continued, but this time it was followed by a scream like the roar of a wild animal. "Love drill!!! Woaaaahhhh!!!"

Ferocious guitar strains now join the song, providing elements of death metal, making the audience taken aback.

"His opponent, from Earth, universe 22255, Niaaaa!!!"

Nia raised her hand. The surface of that girl's arm is split open, revealing an intricate network of mechanical components.

The parts with the skin retract, replaced by a series of rotating gears and jointed segments. Then, mental plates burst out from the inside, merged, and covered those mechanical things, forming a giant drill.

As that drill rotated, Nia spouted pink flame from her mouth upwards. On the screen, many drills smashed those pink hearts, spurting red blood.

"She will continue to drill his heart until he belongs to her! The bones will be broken, and blood will be spilled!" The song's voice becomes more powerful, still accompanied by metal music that clashes with pop tunes.

[N-14]

[THE BRUTALEST]

[IDOL]

"Tell me, Matt." Lognar was still holding his head. "Was 'brutalest' really a word in your original world?"

"I don't think so. I came up with that." Matt shrugged. "You don't like it?"

The Dwarf stood up, pounding the table. "I love it!!! Make this the brutalest match, Nia!!!"

Light fills the stadium again, and Nia runs to the arena. Her smile persisted, but it was so wide this time it made no sense. The corners of her lips had almost reached her ears.

{Some time ago, before the show}

Matt looked into the biggest tent in the residential area. "Excuse me, madam."

"Ah, Mr President." Namie Mitsue, the scientist who created Nia, only glanced at that man. "Wait a minute. I couldn't leave this."

"It's okay." Matt walked into the workshop. "I just want to check on you and Nia."

Namie was sitting on the carpet, using a laptop connected via cables to a humanoid metal frame—some other parts scattered around her.

"I'm setting up Nia for the match." The scientist fixed her glasses. "Because today is the time for Nia to record, I sent her head to Elmar. He doesn't want to use a synthetic voice from Nia. He said he needed a real recording, even though she's a robot."

"Ah, I see." Matt couldn't imagine a recording session where only the idol's head was present. "I hope you and Nia feel comfortable here."

That woman in her thirties smiled faintly. "Ooh, I'm so happy, sir. Finally, I can show my work and be proud of it. No one else claims this robot is their work."

"That's what triggered you to steal Android N-14, right?" Matt sat in one of the chairs. "You have worked hard to create N-14 for the sake of your country's military, but your superiors get the credit. But what makes me curious is, why make her look like an idol?"

That information is not included in Nia's or Namie's profile.

"I used to have two goals, to be an idol and a robot scientist." Namie stopped her work, finally looking at her boss. "I have sacrificed my desire to be an idol to pursue my career as a scientist…. But…. I don't know. Maybe because I was angry that other people were claiming my work, I went a little crazy and dressed her like that while setting her personality like an idol."

"But that's what makes her unique."

When raided by the military, Namie and Nia fought back but could not survive. That's why they can be summoned here.

"I also have one question, sir." Namie closed her laptop. "I feel like all the other fighters you summon have consciousness. I'm not sure N-14 has that. Yes, I did install the most advanced artificial intelligence in her, but you can't compare it with consciousness made by gods."

The president paused, looked at the scientist's tired face, then answered. "You're the fighter, Madam. Nia is your weapon."

"Ah…." The scientist nodded. "That makes sense."

"And I guarantee you one thing, madam." The president leaned forward, giving his trademark smirk. "The credit for all your accomplishments here will go to you. People will think of you as an outstanding scientist. That's what you want, right?"

Namie gulped, unable to reply.

Recognition. That's what she craves.
