13 – Limit

"One! Two! Three!"

"Is this the end for Rory!?" Lognar leaned forward in excitement. "Are we going to see the greatest hero of Etna, Universe 4900, collapse!?"

"You forgot something, Lognar." Matt hissed. "He didn't suddenly become a hero. He went through hundreds of grueling fights. That's why Etna's god put him by his side."

Rory took a deep breath. He asked himself. Why was he being this emotional in a fight? Was he like this when he was at war?

Could this be because he's rusty for too long without fighting?

He forced himself to get up, though with incredible difficulty.

"Eight! Nine! Te…" The referee stopped counting when finally that warrior could stand on two legs. This time the audience not only cheered but also applauded the red-haired man.

"You are also an excellent warrior, Miss Nia." Rory finally caught his breath. "I was blinded by your appearance and way of fighting, so I looked down on you. I'm sorry."

Nia's smile turned softer. "Well, that's good. But I don't care."

Rory smiled back. "You really are a brat."

"Look, Matt." Lognar narrowed his eyes. "Rory's arm stopped bleeding. I think that's one of his other abilities."

"Yeah. His profile mentions this, but not in detail." Matt responded.

Maybe god gave him fast healing abilities, or he trained them.

"But he's lost a lot of blood already." Lognar sighed. "We'll see how long he can last."

The two fighters charged at each other simultaneously. Because he no longer has a shield, Rory dodges more and is aggressive in attacking. Several times he could slash his opponent's body or head, although all that didn't have a significant impact, only making long tears in Nia's synthetic skin.

And Nia's drill grazed the red-haired warrior's armor and sword several times. That spinning object had yet to successfully penetrate his body, but he knew that it would eventually do so in a moment.

"Rory! Nia! Rory! Nia!" The audience took turns calling the fighters. Those around the cage were banging on the wire walls. They were so enthusiastic to see Rory and Nia exchanging attacks.

"Rory does have extraordinary abilities. But in the end, he is still a human with limits." Matt intertwined his fingers and rested his chin on it.

"Yeah." Lognar leaned back in the chair and tapped his temple with his fingers. "He is starting to run out of stamina, while the sharpness of Nia's movements has only decreased a little."

"Argghhh!!!" Matt screamed in pain as that drill penetrated his right hip, spurting blood everywhere.

Yes, he has a fast healing ability, but he must have enough stamina and calm for it to activate.

He was calm enough now, but he was too exhausted.

Even so, the warrior still swung his sword. But Nia blocked it with her drill, causing that weapon to break.

It seemed that the sword was too fragile because it constantly collided with the rotation of the drill.

Rory should have given up in such a situation, but that man was no ordinary person.

He struck one of the slashing 'wounds' on his enemy's head using the lower part of his sword's hilt.

"What is this!?" Lognar spirits peaked again at the sight of Nia staggering backward. "She almost fell! She almost fell!"

Matt widened his eyes, realizing something. "Rory hit the spot he's been attacking all along! That point has also become frail and vulnerable! Just like Rory's shield earlier!"

Rory froze for a moment and almost fell, but then he jumped up and hit that part again with his sword's hilt.

Nia finally collapsed, triggering a roar of deafening cheers from the audience.

Rory had already ducked to punch her foe for the third time, but Nia sprayed him with pink flames.

The warrior twitched on the floor as the flames spread over his face.

"It's not over yet." Lognar squeezed his head. "I don't know anymore who will win."

Finally, Rory managed to extinguish the fire, although his face was now burned.

"One!" And the referee started to count them both. "Two! Three!"

The fighters were trying to get up. No more chorus of cheers. The audience was so amazed by what happened that they held their breath, anticipating the next moment.

"Thanks, Matt." Lognar wiped a single tear from his eye. "Thank you for making this show. My heart flutters to witness this great fight."

"Remember, we're just getting started, Lognar." Matt tapped his colleague on the shoulder. Despite saying that, Matt also wanted to cry.

At the start of the first show, he and his team were able to provide an extraordinary presentation, a match that was not only about fighting but also had a story.

"Six! Seven!"

Rory's knees felt like they were begging him to stop. He was about to collapse again, but his eyes accidentally fell on the championship belt hanging above.

Why was he going through this torment if he couldn't reach that thing?

He could straighten his legs as if he were gaining new strength, and his hands no longer touched the floor.

That man stood tall.

"Nine!" The referee stopped the count.

And Nia is also standing on two legs. With a voice full of static, she spoke. "I have to become a champion…. That is my mother's wish…. I can't stop here."

Matt raised his broken sword. Nia also raised her weapon.

But this time, the drill can no longer rotate. She had also opened her mouth, but only a little flame came out.

"Heaah!!!" Rory charged forward.

As soon as the hilt of that man's sword hit that spot on the head, Nia fell back, and her body convulsed.

Nia's 'wound' shot out sparks, and a third of that android's head exploded, scattering fragments of spare parts in all directions.

Everyone froze, including the commentators and Rory. The referee gives the signal, and an official hit the bell three times.

"And the winner is Rory Egan!!!" Vivian announced.

The cheers from the audience exploded even crazier.

"Rory Egan wins! Rory Egan wins!!!" Lognar rose to his feet. "I can't believe this!!! He almost died a while ago!!!"

Rory fainted just as the referee was about to raise his hand.
