Chapter Six

The atmosphere in the office room was tense as Charles, his lawyer Mr. Higgins, and the company’s manager, Ms. Norah, sat in anticipation. They awaited the arrival of their visitors, each lost in their own thoughts.

After the secretary closed the door behind her, Charles leaned forward, his eyes fixed on Ms. Norah. Sensing his urgency, he whispered, “Norah, I need you to attend to our visitors outside personally. Don’t let the secretary invite them upstairs.”

Confusion flickered across Norah’s face. Charles had asked the secretary to invite the visitors upstairs, but had suddenly had a change of mind.

She wondered why, but she nodded in agreement, recognizing the seriousness in Charles’ tone. She rose from her seat, ready to carry out his request.

Charles guessed the identity of one of the visitors—a visitor who held a special place in his heart. It was Emma, his wife.

Unknown to her, he had recently become the new CEO of Oscorp, a fact he was yet to reveal to her. He had big plans for Emma and her family, and he wanted to reveal it in his own way.

With a gentle yet firm tone, Charles continued, “And Norah, when you meet Emma, please address her kindly. Make her feel welcome. However, for Jerry, the boastful CEO of Jersey Corps. I want you to kick him out of the premises. Show him the door.”

Norah’s eyebrows raised in surprise, but she understood that Charles had his reasons. She nodded, ready to carry out the unexpected task assigned to her.

Turning his attention to Mr. Higgins, Charles spoke with determination, “Higgins, I want you both to ensure that every ongoing partnership we have with Jersey Corps is terminated immediately. I don’t want them associated with us any longer.”

Mr. Higgins, the loyal lawyer, adjusted his tie and nodded in understanding. He knew Charles had a plan, even if he didn’t fully comprehend it. He would execute his instructions promptly and efficiently.

With a calm demeanor, Higgins nodded in agreement. “Understood, Charles. I’ll take care of it immediately.”

With the pieces falling into place, Charles relaxed back into his chair, a sense of anticipation coursing through his veins.

He knew that this moment could change the course of his relationship with Emma and her family forever.

He stood up from his seat. His heart raced as he watched the female visitor downstairs from the glass windows, elegantly dressed in a navy blue dress, wait in the lavish reception of his newly acquired company.

There was something about the way she carried herself, the grace in her every step, that Charles knew all too well. It was Emma, his beloved wife, the woman he had adored for years.

Emma’s eyes wandered around the opulent surroundings, filled with awe and admiration. Unknown to her, Charles had recently become the new CEO of Oscorp, a powerful corporation.

His transformation into a man of wealth and influence had been carefully planned by his late uncle, but Charles wasn’t ready to reveal his true identity just yet. He had big plans for Emma and her family, plans that required secrecy and precision.

As Charles observed from his vantage point, he felt a surge of emotions flood through him. The guilt of keeping his new position hidden from Emma mingled with the excitement of the surprise he had in store for her.

He had donated a substantial amount to their struggling company, intending to lift them out of their financial woes. And now, Emma had come to personally thank the anonymous benefactor.

Norah excused herself politely, absorbing his instructions with a mixture of acceptance and confusion.

Charles, her boss and the esteemed CEO of Oscorp, had just informed her about an unexpected turn of events involving their longtime partner, Jersey Corps.

The confusion stirred within her, but she knew better than to question his decisions. Jersey Corps had been an integral part of their business for years, receiving generous funding from Oscorp.

However, Charles seemed determined to end their partnership, abruptly terminating the financial lifeline that had sustained Jersey Corps all this time.

He believed that depriving Jerry, the boastful CEO of Jersey Corps, of his bragging rights would serve as a fitting consequence.

Norah stood outside Charles’ office, her mind grappling with the reasons behind Charles’ peculiar instructions.

She made her way downstairs, guided by a mix of curiosity and a sense of duty. As she descended, she couldn’t help but wonder why Charles wouldn’t personally meet the visitors himself.

Upon reaching the ground floor, Emma, Charles’ wife, stood among the guests, and Norah found herself perplexed by the apparent distance between the couple.

Norah’s confusion took a backseat to professionalism. She greeted Emma warmly, extending her hand in a gesture of welcome. Emma smiled back, accepting the warmth with grace.

Norah’s thoughts momentarily veered towards the mystery of their relationship, but she quickly refocused her mind on her assigned task.

Turning her attention to the second visitor, Jerry, Norah summoned her best professional demeanor.

With a polite yet assertive tone, she informed him that Oscorp, under its new CEO, was no longer interested in continuing the partnership with Jersey Corps. Norah watched as Jerry’s face transformed from one of confidence to one of sheer disbelief.

Jerry stumbled over his words, his voice faltering as he tried to comprehend the news he had just received.

Norah maintained her composure, silently acknowledging the weight of her role as the manager of Oscorp.

The decision had been made, and it was now her responsibility to convey the message, no matter how difficult it might be for the recipient.

The scene became tense, leaving Jerry dumbfounded and uncertain of the future that awaited his company.

Norah, on the other hand, maintained her professional stance, understanding that her actions aligned with the vision of her boss, Charles.

She held herself accountable, despite the lingering questions that swirled in her mind. As she observed the stunned expression on Jerry’s face, the impact of her role within Oscorp resonated deeply.

The consequences of Charles’ decisions had just been set into motion, and the repercussions would undoubtedly ripple through his business world.

Jerry stood in disbelief, his eyes locked on Norah. The news she had just delivered left him speechless for a minute, unable to process the words that hung heavily in the air.

The company's new CEO had made the shocking decision to cut ties with them, putting an abrupt end to their years of collaboration.

“I can’t believe this, Ms. Norah,” Jerry muttered, his voice tinged with a mix of confusion and frustration. “We’ve been loyal partners for so long. How can they just drop us like that?”

Norah sighed, her expression sympathetic yet resolute. “Mr. Jerry, I understand your disappointment, but the decision was made at the highest level. The new CEO has a different vision for the company’s future.”

Jerry’s brows furrowed, his mind racing for a solution. “I need to speak to the CEO directly. I have to make him understand the value we bring to this partnership. Maybe it’s just a misunderstanding.”

Norah hesitated, her eyes shifting uncomfortably. “I’m sorry, Jerry, but that won’t be possible. The CEO is unavailable for meetings at the moment. We must respect his decision.”

Jerry’s frustration boiled over, his voice rising in desperation. “This is ridiculous! I deserve an explanation, at least. I won’t let them just toss away everything we’ve built together.”

Norah’s gaze hardened, a flicker of annoyance crossing her face. “I’ve heard your side, Jerry, but I must insist that you leave the premises now. We have security personnel who will escort you out.”

Jerry’s heart sank as Norah motioned for the nearby security guards. Panic set in, and he planted his feet firmly, refusing to budge. “No, Norah. I won’t leave until I’ve spoken to the CEO. This is unfair, and I demand to be heard!”

The security guards approached with a steely resolve, their presence adding weight to Norah’s stern instructions. “I’m sorry, sir, but you need to leave. You can’t stay here any longer.”

Jerry’s protests fell on deaf ears as the security personnel gently but firmly guided him towards the exit. His voice strained with desperation, he pleaded one last time, “Please, just give me a chance to make things right. I won’t leave until I’ve had my say!”

Norah’s face hardened further, her voice now devoid of any sympathy. “You had your chance, Jerry. It’s over now. Please cooperate with the security team and leave peacefully.”

Jerry’s feet shuffled reluctantly as he was forced further away from the heart of the company he felt had poured his blood, sweat, and tears into partnering with.

The weight of the situation pressed down upon him, mingling with a sense of betrayal. His voice faded into a defeated whisper as he was unceremoniously ushered out of the building.

And as the doors closed behind him, Jerry’s mind filled with unanswered questions and shattered dreams. The scene left an indelible mark, a stark reminder that even the most solid foundations can crumble beneath unexpected decisions.
