"But if I get fired, I won't have any income. What do we do about rent and food?"

"I'll take care of them!" he said, "I'll earn enough money to support you, so don't you worry."

Serenity stared at him in surprise. She knew that he was only doing odd jobs so he did not earn much, but when he said those words, it somehow gave her a sense of security.

It reminded her that she was not alone. She actually had someone to rely on. She could rely on him.

"Call your boss." He handed her the phone.

She bit her lip. In the end, she relented and called her team leader at the Sanitation Office who was responsible for managing them.

At first, she thought it would be very difficult to ask for an extended leave, but to her surprise, when she said she needed a week off, the team leader immediately agreed. He even said that if a week was not enough, she could even take two weeks off. Not only that, she would still be paid the basic salary and he would not deduct her pay.
