"Clang!"
The metallic collision reverberated through the underground cavern. The knife flew out of his eye and clattered onto the heap of weapons strewn across the floor, adding another sharp sound to the cacophony. It was this noise that brought Ryoshu back from the brink of death.
Suddenly, Ryoshu's heart surged with a newfound vitality, like a jolt of life had been injected into his seemingly lifeless body. Only then did he realize old man Atsuta had appeared beside him.
And when had he acquired the chubby form of a three-colored fur cat perched on his shoulder? Ryoshu couldn't comprehend what had just transpired, and before he could make sense of it, the old man was standing right before him.
He looked into the cat's eyes for insight, but its indifferent gaze offered little help. 'Well, at least it's cute... though a bit chubby.'
Somehow, Ryoshu sensed a hint of fierceness behind its recent contemplation.
'It's not just an ordinary cat, is it?' Before he could finish his thought, its sharp claws emerged from its plump fingers.
'So it's not just an ordinary cat... huh?'
The proud three-formed cat turned away without sparing him another glance, then leaped back to its previous sleeping spot.
"I can't believe I trusted that brat of yours," the old man muttered again with an incredibly calm face, as if what had just happened was nothing.
He seemed a bit more irritable in the VR version compared to his original personality. Ryoshu couldn't help but admire the Rainfall Disorder developers for making their game even more realistic than the previous version. Even though the previous version had received plenty of praise for its character depth in the main storyline.
While Ryoshu was still lost, Atsuta interrupted, "Forget it, it's over now. That weapon almost killed your foolish self is a rather rare weapon nowadays. You might have never seen one before."
Atsuta pulled the chain up, and it gracefully flew to him. But unlike Ryoshu's amateurish attempt, the blacksmith expertly grabbed the dual-bladed knife attached to the end of the chain. This very knife had nearly taken Ryoshu's life, but instead of feeling fear, Ryoshu felt impressed by the old man's mastery over such a peculiar weapon.
Moreover, the old man began to dance with it. The blades swirled around Enomoto as if performing some sort of magic. Even Ryoshu, someone who had never wielded a weapon in real life, could sense the masterful skill of this blacksmith.
"The ancients called this weapon the Chain Slicer."
As he spoke, he continued his captivating performance. Ryoshu didn't say anything but silently admired and tried to absorb the martial art into his greedy flesh. But that was impossible with his mortal body.
"A powerful and deadly weapon in the hands of a master."
After speaking, Atsuta directed the blade towards the wall. But instead of rebounding as Ryoshu expected, the blade pierced through the wall, slowly cracking the surrounding pieces. It was as if the blade had pierced through Ryoshu's narrow-mindedness and widened his perspective.
And even the silly cat was inadvertently nearby, jumping up and hiding behind the door. It stared fiercely at its owner.
'Ahem... never mind the cat, but what in the world was that? How could the blade be so sharp?' While he was wondering about the potential and usage of that weapon, it was Atsuta's turn to monologue.
'He's probably still annoyed from earlier,' Ryoshu thought like a fool. His ears turned red at the thought of acting like that in front of someone else. And Ryoshu's thoughts became a reality as he now witnessed someone else's monologue.
"Although this weapon is powerful up close, long-range, and agile, it's challenging to use and lacks any powerful martial arts to complement it."
Ignoring his embarrassment from earlier, he swallowed his saliva and asked the old man while glancing at the Formless Bow he had just demonstrated.
"Do you mind if I borrow both of these weapons?"
"I don't mind giving you this Chain Slicer since it's nothing special. It's just a weapon I made for practice. And that bow isn't even a perfect bow."
He picked up the bow on the ground and held it in one hand while holding the demonstrated Chain Slicer in the other.
"I find it difficult to trust someone like you, so when I give you something, it might be useless, and you might die in vain."
He sighed and then stretched out his hands, reluctantly saying:
"So I can give you both."
Especially that Formless Bow, he held onto that beautiful weapon tightly. Ryoshu couldn't predict the emotions flooding that weathered face. But he also felt a bit sad because it was the first time he had heard the story about Atsuta's friend.
"And don't return them; take good care of them for me." He emphasized each word, especially "take care" and "good." But Ryoshu didn't realize he also said "don't return" explicitly.
Although the weapon seemed impressive, Ryoshu's conscience struggled to accept it. Nevertheless, his hand gravitated towards it, unable to resist his desire.
"But sir, that's-"
"Don't try to change my mind!" Atsuta pressed the weapons into Ryoshu's arm, his push almost knocking Ryoshu over.
Despite his hesitation, Ryoshu reluctantly accepted them.
"Take them and give me your phone number to contact you. You must come immediately when I call!"
"Yes, sir."
"Amazing! At first, I only planned to learn two skills: Enhanced Memory and Quick Reflexes, but I'm lucky to receive these bonus items."
But most importantly, he had met a character crucial to the game's plot and obtained valuable resources, including two high-quality weapons.
"This might be one of the luckiest starts I've ever had... if only I had Mana... Almost perfect."
However, the question remained: would these items truly help him? The answer was uncertain. Despite six years of gaming experience, Ryoshu knew the locations of rare items, but they wouldn't significantly aid him in completing the game.
"But without these small advantages, the game's early stages would be incredibly difficult..." Ryoshu shuddered at the thought of the monstrous bosses he would face later on.
"Here, take this as well... consider it an extra gift from me."
Atsuta then unexpectedly handed him three identical scrolls pre-enchanted with Teleportation spells.
"Perfect for someone like me who lacks Mana!"
The old blacksmith had more advice:
"Now you can use these scrolls to escape from here. It's safer than wandering around in this dangerous place. I don't want my investment to fail due to negligence..." He spoke casually, but his voice suddenly lowered when addressing Ryoshu directly.
"Even though it was quite risky to trust an unreliable person like you..." After a few coughs to mask his expression while Ryoshu stared at him, Atsuta cleared his throat. "Ahem, anyway, rest assured, I won't charge you for this, because it's cheap."
Ryoshu refrained from showing too much excitement, casually storing the scrolls in his spatial ring and borrowing a pen from Atsuta.
Initially, he intended to head home immediately to check if the game glitched, but he realized he didn't know his home address.
"Darn it, no wonder I keep feeling like I'm forgetting something. How am I supposed to get home now?"
After pondering for a moment, he came up with a much better idea. Ryoshu, like an eager child with crayons, enthusiastically began scribbling coordinates on a piece of paper.
"Thank you very much, Mr. Enomoto! Goodbye." Ryoshu waved farewell to the blacksmith with his usual disgruntled expression, but this time, the corner of Atsuta's mouth twitched into a slight smile.
Soon after, the cat also came over to bid farewell to the weakling. It climbed slowly onto its owner's back and then settled itself on top of the old blacksmith's head as if perched on a throne.
Atsuta paid no attention and simply let out a long sigh.
"He must be used to it by now. Haha." Ryoshu absentmindedly raised his hand to pat the adorable cat's chin. A radiant smile unintentionally spread across his lips.
The blacksmith remained silent, allowing Ryoshu to play with the cat for a while before reminding him once more before he left.
"Be careful and remember what I told you."
Ryoshu scrutinized the blacksmith's face once again to commit it to memory. Although that was impossible since he was exceptionally good at remembering faces. It was one of the abilities he was highly confident about.
And of course, he didn't forget to divert his attention to the suspicious triple-formed cat, which was sitting conspicuously on top of the blacksmith's head.
"I'll inquire about this later... But for now, I'll remember Mr. Enomoto Atsuta well. I'll never forget this favor."
Though he couldn't hear Ryoshu's thoughts, Atsuta nodded in agreement and waved his hand to signal him to leave quickly.
"Even at the last minute, he's still the same. Truly a cantankerous old man... Take care, old man... we'll meet again soon." Ryoshu smiled and nodded at the old man before quickly tearing the piece of paper into two.
Magical characters suddenly appeared from the void and circled around Ryoshu's body. After a moment, they glowed, converged, and formed various circles. These circles gradually contracted, enveloping his body. The light they emitted grew brighter, dazzling anyone who looked at it.
And then, Ryoshu felt that nauseating sensation once again. And a while later, he stood before some kind of temple gate. Right now, he was in a somewhat curved stone wall. He could see sunlight shining through the forest foliage and weeds from below the wall.
The foul stench of the Black Market had been replaced by the scent of a cave, along with the damp scent of the grass. Somehow, Ryoshu's sense of smell had become strangely acute.
"Maybe because I've gotten used to the foul smell of the Black Market... so coming out here and breathing fresh air feels completely different."
In the game, the Temple was where Players would battle monsters, and overcome challenges to earn rewards and experience points to level up faster. Though Ryoshu didn't have what was called a level since he wasn't a Player. But anyone could receive the Temple's rewards after completing its challenges.
Previously, in the basement of the old blacksmith, Ryoshu had written down the coordinates of this Hidden Temple. There were many game glitches that could be exploited with the Temple's gate.
First, Ryoshu took out two Memory Orbs and interacted with the Temple's gate. Interaction, in this case, meant that he took the pair of orbs and rubbed them against the Temple's gate for a while. But what happened afterward wholly took him by surprise.

A blue window appeared before Ryoshu, but it wasn't coming from the wristwatch.
"I must be losing it..." Ryoshu muttered as he glanced at his wristwatch. Status Update:- Name: Amemura Ryoshu- Race: Human- Level: Unranked- Stats + Mana: Non-existent + Primary Stats: - Strength: 12.25 (F-) - Endurance: 11 (F-) - Agility: 11.5 (F-) - Intuition: 15.3 (F) + Secondary Stats: - Charisma: 10 (Unranked) - Recovery: 10.15 (F-) - Intelligence: 18.8 (F+)From now on, Ryoshu reckoned, he wouldn't even need the darned wristwatch. It was invisible to others anyway, so he could use it whenever he pleased."But... I still need it to check the time and for school notifications and social media," Ryoshu pondered. After a moment's reflection, he decided to hold onto it. Those features might come in handy at Spiral Academy."Yeah, I'll hold onto this watch a bit longer. I'll upgrade to a better one," he resolved.Looking back at his stats, Ryoshu couldn't help but sigh. "Unranked... Figures."Aside from his average Intuition and Intelligence, hi
Recalling the urgent red alerts, Ryoshu hoped they indicated something different. However, he remained optimistic and stubbornly attempted once more despite knowing the futility of his efforts."Damn it!""So... all glitches are now limited to single use, huh?!"Initially, he had planned to exploit glitches to gain power swiftly. Yet, the System's ability to swiftly rectify glitches thwarted his strategy entirely."If only I'd known earlier, I'd have headed straight to an SSS+ Ranked Shrine..."Regret painted Ryoshu's face. Wasting one of the game's most valuable glitches was understandably regrettable."Well, what's done is done. Can't undo it now," he muttered, though regret lingered. The two skills would greatly expedite his training, particularly Lightning Reflexes, which are invaluable in any battle. Additionally, the Premonition of Death skill boosted his chances of survival. Moreover, various avenues existed to upgrade abilities in the game, with many unused glitches remaining.
Initially, Ryoshu felt the same as usual. But before long, the pain surged, intensifying almost tenfold with his heightened senses.Clenching his teeth, he used his blood to etch strange symbols onto the statue's surface."QWYUOPLKJHGFDZXCVM."Quickly, he tore the four-leaf clover into shreds, placing three pieces atop the statue."A new temporary effect activated! All your current attribute points will merge into one specific attribute of your choice for a minute. You've opted for Adaptation as your secondary attribute.Warning: All other attributes will temporarily drop to 1 for survival."Suddenly, Ryoshu felt a strange weakening in his body. The already dark cave seemed more ominous, adding to his unease as his legs nearly buckled, forcing him to his knees. At that moment, Ryoshu struggled to even hold onto anything. The sense of helplessness now felt worse than his breakup with his girlfriend. The memory of her with her new partner on that fateful night made him shudder. We are a

In the elevator, Ryoshu was stuffing his belongings into his space ring. There wasn't much: clothes, personal items, the notebook he'd been writing in, and the rusty sword from the living room."Good thing there's still space... But who's that girl? She seems familiar, but I can't place her. A new character I've seen before? Or just a random NPC?"Ryoshu wondered for a moment before shifting his focus."Forget it. The important thing is I don't have a place to stay now... Where should I go this week? There's still a week until the class division test, and I've already lost my place... But at least I don't have to pay the rent."The more he thought about it, the more unreasonable it seemed that his character could afford an apartment while he couldn't."But I still need somewhere to stay tonight, or I'll be homeless. With just this ring, I can't make it."Then, a crazy idea struck him. Ryoshu checked for cameras in the elevator, feeling safe, and hastily scribbled some lines on his kne
After what felt like an eternity, Ryoshu finally unlocked the skill he'd been chasing. Each failed attempt only strengthened his resolve against the searing pain."I wonder if this is worth it?"His body started adapting to resist high temperatures.Unlocking the "High Temperature Resistance" Feature (Lower Grade)His hand swelled grotesquely. Ryoshu cautiously touched his finger to the flame from the cheap lighter, with less hesitation this time. The pain was bearable now, though not completely gone. Relief swept over him, followed by a sigh."This is so much simpler in the game..."Next, Ryoshu focused Mana into his palm while enduring the burn. Concentrating was tough amidst the pain. Only when his hand turned black did he begin to grasp the flame's essence."I've got it... let's practice..."While burning his other hand, Ryoshu attempted to turn pure Mana into fire, but it only became hot gas."Halfway there. "Thankfully, the game's map on my computer resembles the virtual reality version, so getting there only takes a few minutes," Ryoshu said, stripping off his shirt in the dimming twilight to gather dry firewood on his way back to camp.Dumping the firewood in the center of his marked circle of rocks at his campsite for the week, Ryoshu chose a spot near a large rock to fashion into a seat.Planning to start a campfire to stave off the cold, Ryoshu realized he needed to master Fire Magic quickly, even if it meant a struggle for survival. As the forest temperature dropped steadily with the rising moon, Ryoshu's damp clothes from earlier laundry clung to him, forcing him to sit shirtless, shivering uncontrollably. Tearing pieces of paper from his notebook, he lit a small fire with trembling fingers."This time seems easier, doesn't it?" Ryoshu tossed the paper into the firewood pile, watching as it caught and grew, warming him considerably."Mmm, much warmer now. Living off the grid has i
Indeed, there are many challenges in this world, each requiring its own level of dedication. Achieving all Core Stats with at least an F- grade is one of those challenges. It's a lengthy process, but I have some ideas to speed it up.Once the planning was done, Ryoshu conjured forth a bow from his garments, its pale white hue contrasting with the swirling sand around him, creating an enchanting atmosphere. Ryoshu couldn't help but feel drawn to its innocence, patting it gently."At least... I still have you... thank you."Whether the weapon could comprehend his gratitude was uncertain, but Ryoshu felt a weight lift off his shoulders as he shared his thoughts. In response, the weapon seemed to cling even tighter to him."Alright, now it's time to train..." Ryoshu paused, contemplating what to call it. As he hesitated, the pile of sand took on a quizzical expression, forming a question mark."Hmm... Fumei?"The sand shook, or so Ryoshu perceived."Difficult, isn't it? Then... I'll call
Charlotte's sigh was heavy with the weight of her disappointment. Her eyes locked onto the paper she held, searching for hidden meaning in the inked numbers. The quiet room seemed to echo with her despondence. Her brows knitted together, and her lips pursed in a faint frown. "I only got 200 points... so I'm ranked 13th," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper, each word laced with a palpable sense of frustration and regret. "Katia got 235 points and is ranked 11th."Ever attentive to his friend's emotions, Haruki moved closer, his expression softening with empathy. His blue hair fell into his eyes as he leaned in, a small, comforting smile on his lips. "You both were so close, weren't you?" he said, his tone gentle and encouraging. "If it hadn't been for those demon worshippers at the end, our whole group would have made it into the top 10.Charlotte's gaze shifted from the paper to Haruki, her mind replaying the chaotic events of the competition's final moments. "What on earth is going on?" he muttered, utterly bewildered by the sight before him. The scene was so unexpected that it left him momentarily stunned. Although he lacked the courage to step inside, his curiosity got the better of him, and he cautiously peered in. Just at the entrance of the dormitory, Haruki and Charlotte were deeply engrossed in an unusually intimate conversation, their heads close together, sharing words he couldn't quite hear."They look so close... why does this scene seem so familiar?" he thought, a profound sense of déjà vu washing over him. The familiarity was unsettling. "This is the scene right after that cold, unfeeling guy Midnight—supposed to be a Star student—challenges the academy."Reflecting further, he realized, "Because I've temporarily taken his place, now everything is unfolding as it should... according to the script of the game Rainfall Disorder."As he stood there, lost in his thoughts and trying to piece everything together, a group of other
"See you later... but... next time, please don't pull on someone else's shirt like that..."At that precise moment, it seemed that the petite angelic girl had just realized she was clutching the hem of Ryoshu's shirt. Her eyes widened in sudden awareness, and she quickly let go as if the fabric had burned her fingers. What stood out most in this scene was the incredible proximity of their heads. Their faces were so close that even the slightest movement could have resulted in an undeniably awkward situation, almost as if the air between them had thickened with tension.Ryoshu's mind raced, struggling to process the sudden nearness. The image of a tomato was the only thing he could conjure to describe Luna's face, which had flushed a vibrant, almost luminous shade of red. Her cheeks seemed to glow with embarrassment, and he could practically feel the heat radiating from her skin. This moment was incredibly challenging for someone like Ryoshu, who was acutely sensitive and easily flust
"Instead of paying for tuition right away, I'll invest in the shares of potential guilds with promising futures," he mused aloud, his eyes shimmering with a glint of ambition. Securing financial growth through guild investments excited him; it seemed a wise move in a world where connections and wealth often determined one's success. "And if I gather enough goods, I might even consider starting a small business in the Trading Guild."The thought filled him with a sense of purpose and hope. He could already see the possibilities unfold before him—ventures that would bring wealth and establish his reputation in the bustling city. Money, he understood, was not merely a tool for survival but a powerful key to opening doors to numerous opportunities and connections. In the quieter corners of his mind, the stark reality of his ambitions loomed large. "In the future, the amount of money I'll need is no small sum," he murmured, his tone shifting to one of sober reflection. Supporting the ta
Upon hearing the alarming beep of the error sound, the saleswoman immediately hurried over. Her steps were quick and purposeful, a clear indication of her concern. As she approached, she leaned closer to the counter, her eyes searching for the source of the problem, and asked, "Are you out of money, dear?"The young man, visibly flustered, responded with a slight tremble, "No... please wait a moment. It seems there might be an error." His fingers moved swiftly over the device, trying to troubleshoot the issue with an almost palpable urgency. Sweat began to form on his brow as he frantically tried to resolve the situation.Standing right beside Ryoshu, the saleswoman scrutinized him with a look that betrayed her suspicion. Her eyebrows knitted together, and her lips pressed into a thin line as she tried to decipher what was going wrong. Her eyes darted between Ryoshu and the device, seeking any clue that might explain the unexpected error.Ryoshu felt the weight of her gaze bearing do
"Ryoshu... What are you looking at out there?" Charlotte called out to him, her voice tinged with concern after he had been silent for an unusually long time.Startled from his thoughts, Ryoshu turned towards them, his face pale and eyes wide as if he had just seen a ghost. The unsettling expression made both Charlotte and Haruki exchange worried glances.'Could it be... these two?' Ryoshu wondered internally, his mind racing. 'Is it because they know me or because they are actively engaging with me? If that's the case... I need to come up with a plan quickly. These scenes are making me sick!!!'Desperately trying to compose himself, Ryoshu quickly blurted out, "Oh, um... I saw a white cat passing by, but it's nothing special." He cringed inwardly, realizing it was one of the lamest excuses he had ever concocted.Charlotte raised an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued but not fully satisfied. "A white cat, you say?""Yeah," Ryoshu stammered, nodding a bit too vigorously. "It just caught my
"Wow, looking over this list again, it's clear just how impressive Amemura is. He scored an incredible 600 points, outpacing Midnight by a substantial margin of 100 points!"Ryoshu'sRyoshu's friend exclaimed, eyes wide with amazement as they reviewed the freshly printed results. The numbers were still crisp on the page, highlighting Amemura's name at the top with a bold score beside it. Ryoshu, however, seemed preoccupied as he fumbled with a newspaper he had just picked up."This... just came out... I didn't have a chance to hear the scores earlier, but... it doesn't," Ryoshu muttered, his voice trailing off as he opened the newspaper. He was soon engrossed, his eyes moving methodically across the columns of text. Despite his initial nonchalance, he found himself compelled to read each word meticulously. A sense of helplessness washed over him as he realized he had no choice but to absorb every detail. The weight of the information bore down on him, making him feel like he was being
"Well, I only got 200 points, so I'm ranked 13th. But Katia got 235 points and is ranked 11th," Charlotte sighed, her eyes scanning the paper in her hand with a mix of disappointment and resignation.Seeing the sadness on his friend's face, Haruki felt a pang of empathy and immediately sought to comfort her. His voice was gentle yet filled with a determination to lift her spirits."Both of you were so close, weren't you? If it hadn't been for those demon worshippers causing trouble at the end, our whole group might have made it into the top 10," he said, trying to inject positivity into the situation.Charlotte nodded slightly, appreciating his effort but still feeling the sting of their narrow miss. "I'm not so sure about that... but we should still celebrate the 2... no, now 3 of us who made it into the top 10! Maybe we could go out for dinner tonight... have a little party or something?"As she spoke, Charlotte absentmindedly twirled a lock of her shiny golden hair around her finge
They walked through it unharmed, and not only that, they managed to carry on a lively conversation, smiling as if they were taking a casual stroll. The air was filled with their laughter and light-hearted banter, starkly contrasting the tense situation at hand. "Do you think we'll be alright?" one of them asked, their voice tinged with curiosity and concern.Ryoshu's mind was racing. He vividly remembered the second scene, every detail etched into his memory, and knew he had to act swiftly. The weight of urgency pressed down on him, his thoughts a chaotic whirl as he considered the implications. "I hope the scene hasn't progressed too far… I need to hurry…" he muttered under his breath, feeling the pressure mount. Without wasting another moment, he took a deep breath and plunged into the invisible curtain that separated him from his goal. The instant he entered, an eerie sensation washed over him. Once responsive and under his control, his body began to betray him. It was as if an u
