"No matter what, my sister will notify the cops sooner or later... it's just a waiting game... so let's drop it! Let's peep at the status bar and hit the road."
"Pull up the System stats."

Though all his stats had reset to 1, thanks to the ancient ginseng, his core stats got a sweet +5 boost. This wouldn't usually shake the earth, but starting from rock bottom made it a game-changer.Ryoshu especially dug the adaptation stat, which is beefing up his recovery. With the pain train he was likely to ride, quick adaptability was the ticket.Curious, he delved into the stats for more on Adaptation:Adaptation: Your knack for rolling with the punches in any situation."Feels like the OG version... an early-game gem. I'll crack the code on its use later."He maxed it at 90 because of a quirky condition: munching on the last leaf after a 4-leaf clover tear-down before the God statue at trial's end."Missed it by one point... but hey, close enough."Before ditching the gate, Ryoshu sends out, soaking up Mana from the air. Initially, it played hard to get, but soon, it was chugging down his human dumpster fire of a body.He sized up his Mana intake and shoveled it into Old Smithy's Shapeless Bow. Translation: He chucked the Mana pile at the bow, playing fast and loose. The flowery bow with bling morphed into a pile of golden sand, then jazzed up his hoodie with snazzy patterns.Panic mode: Engaged. He thought he'd bricked the bow for sure. But the Mana flip-back laid his fears to rest. The sand swarmed back into his palm, shaping the old bow in a jiffy. The sand's playful dance warmed Ryoshu's icy heart, and he developed a soft spot for the bow."Suspecting this bow's got a soul...? Bit of a goofball, though. Maybe. Cute either way."He played around with the sand, sticking it back on his clothes. Customizing was an option, but he vibed with the original kiddo's doodles."Convenient not to shove it in a ring anymore."Space in his F-rank ring was tighter than a drum, so he had to budget.Back at the gate, a wild idea struck. He tapped it and said:"Spill the beans."The gate ▮▯▯▯▮▮"A bit rookie with the low level... but leveling up this skill? Beats me..." - Ryoshu was puzzled, but on closer inspection, it checked out."Cause I'm rocking a fraction of the Player's juice..."But the biggest head-scratcher? Who hooked him up with this system:"Decrypt these hieroglyphics ▯▮▮▮▯▯. The mastermind... or mistress... who? The gist says... gifted for my curiosity... And they're stuck on their alias... Amemura, not Amemiya..."Summary: ▯▮▮▮▯▯ I gifted to Amemura Ryoshu out of their curiosity. The head-scratcher left Ryoshu flummoxed. Instead of a wild goose chase, he binned the idea and strolled through the gate.Stepping out, the evening had unfurled. The city was alive and kicking. Beneath the bridge, nature's perfume mingled with car honks."So, back in the urban jungle."He popped out from under the bridge, soaking in the twilight vista. Eyes closed, he soaked in the moment. This was his jam in the game."But this version's hyper-real, five senses and all. VR tech, much?"He marinated in the view a smidge more. Then, it hit him:"Dang, don't know my crib's address."The heavens' gift, Super Memory, played Santa, recalling stuff he'd barely noticed. But it wasn't just a memory booster; it turbocharged his combat learning curve, saving his bacon.Given his sieve-like brain, it was skill numero uno. Plus, dusting off old strats was no sweat now."Bummer, not milking that bug." - He sighed, but the sunset took the edge off.He snagged a lighter and candles, 2.5 RC total, then beelined home for the Mana Core gig.In their various designs, Mana Cores serve different purposes, each with unique effectiveness, usage speed, transformation abilities, and power levels. Take, for example, the Six Great Heroes from a decade ago: five focused solely on mastering one specific type of magic.
However, being specialized didn't necessarily make them the strongest. The top hero was the one who wielded the most basic Mana Core type. Yet, he customized his cores, rings, and Mana circuits to suit his fighting style, making him the most exceptional hero.
Ryoshu plans to follow this path because he desires to combine various powerful spells with his own combat style.
Ryoshu felt optimistic but was suddenly taken aback when the elevator door opened, revealing his belongings scattered on the floor. Hastily, he rushed over and found a note taped to the door. Removing it, he read the message carefully:
"You've been late on rent for almost half a year, violating the contract for over three months, so I've decided to evict you. I've been lenient with you for too long, so now you have no more chances. Signed, Fakuyu Apartment Landlord."
"I haven't even been in that room for over an hour... I hope nobody saw me in this embarrassing situation..."
Suddenly, the sound of the elevator echoed, freezing Ryoshu in place as he pulled his hoodie over his head. The footsteps grew louder as they approached him, or rather, it was the sound of his pounding heart.
"Amemura, are you moving out?" A crisp voice sounded from behind him. He turned around to identify the owner of the voice.
"This girl is Japanese... like me."
She wore a school uniform, her brown hair fluttering in the wind. Her pink cheeks complemented her mischievous brown eyes. Her oval face seemed somewhat tinged with sadness; at least, that's what Ryoshu thought.
"Oh, um, no, I... I've been evicted from this place..."
"Damn, I'm sorry to hear that," she seemed genuinely surprised by his words.
Now, it was Ryoshu's turn to be surprised, perhaps because the petite girl treated him quite kindly. It starkly contrasted Ryoshu's life before he entered this game world.
"Oh, it's not your fault."
"Maybe because she's also from the same homeland, that's why she's so polite... and could my character actually have a relationship with this cute girl? She looks about the same age as my character, so it's quite possible."
While Ryoshu was contemplating the girl in front of him, she continued to ask him:
"Do you have a place to stay for tonight?"
Due to his pride, he had to lie straight to her face.
"I do."
"Really?" She raised an eyebrow, looking somewhat suspicious.
"If you need any help, you can come to my place. My parents would be happy to help you."
Seeing things getting more complicated, Ryoshu quickly gathered his belongings and exited.
"I'm good, thanks a lot, though. Goodbye!" His voice sounded more rushed, and his actions were hurried.
"Well... then goodbye to you."
Ryoshu swiftly walked to the elevator and didn't look back. Meanwhile, the curious girl still gazed at him.
"I don't understand; Amemura seems different today?"
The beautiful girl kept looking at the young man carrying a pile of belongings until the elevator door closed completely.
"He'd normally avoid eye contact and give brief answers. But today, he even greeted me?" The cute girl tilted her head, recalling her neighbor's hurried and somewhat clumsy actions.
She opened the door and glanced at the elevator one last time.
"Weird... But I hope I'll see him again at the academy."
In the elevator, Ryoshu was stuffing his belongings into his space ring. There wasn't much: clothes, personal items, the notebook he'd been writing in, and the rusty sword from the living room."Good thing there's still space... But who's that girl? She seems familiar, but I can't place her. A new character I've seen before? Or just a random NPC?"Ryoshu wondered for a moment before shifting his focus."Forget it. The important thing is I don't have a place to stay now... Where should I go this week? There's still a week until the class division test, and I've already lost my place... But at least I don't have to pay the rent."The more he thought about it, the more unreasonable it seemed that his character could afford an apartment while he couldn't."But I still need somewhere to stay tonight, or I'll be homeless. With just this ring, I can't make it."Then, a crazy idea struck him. Ryoshu checked for cameras in the elevator, feeling safe, and hastily scribbled some lines on his kne
After what felt like an eternity, Ryoshu finally unlocked the skill he'd been chasing. Each failed attempt only strengthened his resolve against the searing pain."I wonder if this is worth it?"His body started adapting to resist high temperatures.Unlocking the "High Temperature Resistance" Feature (Lower Grade)His hand swelled grotesquely. Ryoshu cautiously touched his finger to the flame from the cheap lighter, with less hesitation this time. The pain was bearable now, though not completely gone. Relief swept over him, followed by a sigh."This is so much simpler in the game..."Next, Ryoshu focused Mana into his palm while enduring the burn. Concentrating was tough amidst the pain. Only when his hand turned black did he begin to grasp the flame's essence."I've got it... let's practice..."While burning his other hand, Ryoshu attempted to turn pure Mana into fire, but it only became hot gas."Halfway there. Just need to match its color."Imagination played a crucial role in Mana
"Thankfully, the game's map on my computer resembles the virtual reality version, so getting there only takes a few minutes," Ryoshu said, stripping off his shirt in the dimming twilight to gather dry firewood on his way back to camp.Dumping the firewood in the center of his marked circle of rocks at his campsite for the week, Ryoshu chose a spot near a large rock to fashion into a seat.Planning to start a campfire to stave off the cold, Ryoshu realized he needed to master Fire Magic quickly, even if it meant a struggle for survival. As the forest temperature dropped steadily with the rising moon, Ryoshu's damp clothes from earlier laundry clung to him, forcing him to sit shirtless, shivering uncontrollably. Tearing pieces of paper from his notebook, he lit a small fire with trembling fingers."This time seems easier, doesn't it?" Ryoshu tossed the paper into the firewood pile, watching as it caught and grew, warming him considerably."Mmm, much warmer now. Living off the grid has i
Indeed, there are many challenges in this world, each requiring its own level of dedication. Achieving all Core Stats with at least an F- grade is one of those challenges. It's a lengthy process, but I have some ideas to speed it up.Once the planning was done, Ryoshu conjured forth a bow from his garments, its pale white hue contrasting with the swirling sand around him, creating an enchanting atmosphere. Ryoshu couldn't help but feel drawn to its innocence, patting it gently."At least... I still have you... thank you."Whether the weapon could comprehend his gratitude was uncertain, but Ryoshu felt a weight lift off his shoulders as he shared his thoughts. In response, the weapon seemed to cling even tighter to him."Alright, now it's time to train..." Ryoshu paused, contemplating what to call it. As he hesitated, the pile of sand took on a quizzical expression, forming a question mark."Hmm... Fumei?"The sand shook, or so Ryoshu perceived."Difficult, isn't it? Then... I'll call
As Ryoshu's Archery skill ascended to a new level, his consciousness seemed to drift away, enveloped by a vast expanse of nothingness as it absorbed a torrent of newfound knowledge. The sheer magnitude of information inundating his mind threatened to overwhelm him, almost tipping him into unconsciousness then and there."Just reaching F rank... and it's already this intense," Ryoshu mused, contemplating the implications of progressing to a higher rank, particularly E rank in his case, pondering what additional revelations it might bring."What skill awaits me at E rank?" Ryoshu envisioned, with eagerness, the idea of unlocking a new skill, feeling like a well-deserved reward for his relentless pursuit of advancement. Typically, the new skill would align closely with his previous endeavors, further enhancing his combat prowess.Despite his excitement, Ryoshu remained acutely aware of the arduous journey ahead in climbing the ranks. After a rigorous morning of training, he took a break,
The rabbit appeared to have surrendered to its inevitable fate, its gaze filled with disdain directed towards Ryoshu. Yet, amidst its final moments, it exhibited a profound display of love, turning to glance at its companion despite the knowledge that such an action would exacerbate its own wounds, hastening its demise with each drop of blood.Ryoshu remained a silent observer, vigilant now with his lungs replenished with oxygen. His mind gradually cleared, fulfilling his hope for clarity in this dire situation. However, he realized that he had been merely a bystander for quite some time. With aching muscles, he moved, opting to cradle the injured rabbit gently to prevent further harm rather than clutching the knife. The white rabbit, weakened by blood loss, offered no resistance, enabling Ryoshu to concentrate on completing his unfinished task. With utmost care, Ryoshu lifted the injured rabbit and approached the place where he had mercilessly ended his companion's life. Kneeling dow
"Now I've officially ascended to the rank of a One-Star Awakener."Ryoshu reflected on the distinction between stars and ranks. Ranks denoted overall strength, while stars symbolized the control over Mana and Magic. Despite reaching the one-star rank, Ryoshu remained an Unranked Awakener because the two metrics were not directly correlated. The terminology was coined by the Magic Council rather than the System, aiming to categorize power levels within the realm of Magic. Although based on their extensive observations and studies of Mana, a connection between Mana and stars was discovered, it wasn't fully comprehended until halfway through the game. One needed a Core, two Rings, and three Mana Pulses to attain the status of a One-Star Awakener. Progressing to Two-Stars required two Cores, four Rings, and six Mana Pulses. The pinnacle, Ten Stars, necessitated ten Cores, twenty Rings, and thirty Pulses, ultimately resulting in a Mana stat of 100.However, no player had ever reached the T
"In the future, let's not dwell on the future too much. Right now, my priority is survival, and only then can I consider... taking lives... Moreover, those villains deserve death more than the rabbit family," Ryoshu mused, his stomach growling insistently as if urging him to eat. Yielding to the demand of his hungry belly, he promptly sat down to satisfy his appetite."Once we finish our meal... it's bedtime," he declared. The night enveloped them in an eerie silence, broken only by the rhythmic breathing of a young boy asleep in his tent.Suddenly, a rumble echoed through the air, resembling thunder splitting the sky. However, there was no lightning in sight. What could have caused such a disturbance? The Temple gates, the target of Ryoshu's raid the day before, emitted waves of Mana disruption, signaling an imminent calamity.Just as abruptly as it began, the disturbance ceased, replaced by an unsettling stillness.Moments later, the Temple gates burst open, crashing to the ground i
Charlotte's sigh was heavy with the weight of her disappointment. Her eyes locked onto the paper she held, searching for hidden meaning in the inked numbers. The quiet room seemed to echo with her despondence. Her brows knitted together, and her lips pursed in a faint frown. "I only got 200 points... so I'm ranked 13th," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper, each word laced with a palpable sense of frustration and regret. "Katia got 235 points and is ranked 11th."Ever attentive to his friend's emotions, Haruki moved closer, his expression softening with empathy. His blue hair fell into his eyes as he leaned in, a small, comforting smile on his lips. "You both were so close, weren't you?" he said, his tone gentle and encouraging. "If it hadn't been for those demon worshippers at the end, our whole group would have made it into the top 10.Charlotte's gaze shifted from the paper to Haruki, her mind replaying the chaotic events of the competition's final moments. Her brow f
"What on earth is going on?" he muttered, utterly bewildered by the sight before him. The scene was so unexpected that it left him momentarily stunned. Although he lacked the courage to step inside, his curiosity got the better of him, and he cautiously peered in. Just at the entrance of the dormitory, Haruki and Charlotte were deeply engrossed in an unusually intimate conversation, their heads close together, sharing words he couldn't quite hear."They look so close... why does this scene seem so familiar?" he thought, a profound sense of déjà vu washing over him. The familiarity was unsettling. "This is the scene right after that cold, unfeeling guy Midnight—supposed to be a Star student—challenges the academy."Reflecting further, he realized, "Because I've temporarily taken his place, now everything is unfolding as it should... according to the script of the game Rainfall Disorder."As he stood there, lost in his thoughts and trying to piece everything together, a group of other
"See you later... but... next time, please don't pull on someone else's shirt like that..."At that precise moment, it seemed that the petite angelic girl had just realized she was clutching the hem of Ryoshu's shirt. Her eyes widened in sudden awareness, and she quickly let go as if the fabric had burned her fingers. What stood out most in this scene was the incredible proximity of their heads. Their faces were so close that even the slightest movement could have resulted in an undeniably awkward situation, almost as if the air between them had thickened with tension.Ryoshu's mind raced, struggling to process the sudden nearness. The image of a tomato was the only thing he could conjure to describe Luna's face, which had flushed a vibrant, almost luminous shade of red. Her cheeks seemed to glow with embarrassment, and he could practically feel the heat radiating from her skin. This moment was incredibly challenging for someone like Ryoshu, who was acutely sensitive and easily flust
"Instead of paying for tuition right away, I'll invest in the shares of potential guilds with promising futures," he mused aloud, his eyes shimmering with a glint of ambition. Securing financial growth through guild investments excited him; it seemed a wise move in a world where connections and wealth often determined one's success. "And if I gather enough goods, I might even consider starting a small business in the Trading Guild."The thought filled him with a sense of purpose and hope. He could already see the possibilities unfold before him—ventures that would bring wealth and establish his reputation in the bustling city. Money, he understood, was not merely a tool for survival but a powerful key to opening doors to numerous opportunities and connections. In the quieter corners of his mind, the stark reality of his ambitions loomed large. "In the future, the amount of money I'll need is no small sum," he murmured, his tone shifting to one of sober reflection. Supporting the ta
Upon hearing the alarming beep of the error sound, the saleswoman immediately hurried over. Her steps were quick and purposeful, a clear indication of her concern. As she approached, she leaned closer to the counter, her eyes searching for the source of the problem, and asked, "Are you out of money, dear?"The young man, visibly flustered, responded with a slight tremble, "No... please wait a moment. It seems there might be an error." His fingers moved swiftly over the device, trying to troubleshoot the issue with an almost palpable urgency. Sweat began to form on his brow as he frantically tried to resolve the situation.Standing right beside Ryoshu, the saleswoman scrutinized him with a look that betrayed her suspicion. Her eyebrows knitted together, and her lips pressed into a thin line as she tried to decipher what was going wrong. Her eyes darted between Ryoshu and the device, seeking any clue that might explain the unexpected error.Ryoshu felt the weight of her gaze bearing do
"Ryoshu... What are you looking at out there?" Charlotte called out to him, her voice tinged with concern after he had been silent for an unusually long time.Startled from his thoughts, Ryoshu turned towards them, his face pale and eyes wide as if he had just seen a ghost. The unsettling expression made both Charlotte and Haruki exchange worried glances.'Could it be... these two?' Ryoshu wondered internally, his mind racing. 'Is it because they know me or because they are actively engaging with me? If that's the case... I need to come up with a plan quickly. These scenes are making me sick!!!'Desperately trying to compose himself, Ryoshu quickly blurted out, "Oh, um... I saw a white cat passing by, but it's nothing special." He cringed inwardly, realizing it was one of the lamest excuses he had ever concocted.Charlotte raised an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued but not fully satisfied. "A white cat, you say?""Yeah," Ryoshu stammered, nodding a bit too vigorously. "It just caught my
"Wow, looking over this list again, it's clear just how impressive Amemura is. He scored an incredible 600 points, outpacing Midnight by a substantial margin of 100 points!"Ryoshu'sRyoshu's friend exclaimed, eyes wide with amazement as they reviewed the freshly printed results. The numbers were still crisp on the page, highlighting Amemura's name at the top with a bold score beside it. Ryoshu, however, seemed preoccupied as he fumbled with a newspaper he had just picked up."This... just came out... I didn't have a chance to hear the scores earlier, but... it doesn't," Ryoshu muttered, his voice trailing off as he opened the newspaper. He was soon engrossed, his eyes moving methodically across the columns of text. Despite his initial nonchalance, he found himself compelled to read each word meticulously. A sense of helplessness washed over him as he realized he had no choice but to absorb every detail. The weight of the information bore down on him, making him feel like he was being
"Well, I only got 200 points, so I'm ranked 13th. But Katia got 235 points and is ranked 11th," Charlotte sighed, her eyes scanning the paper in her hand with a mix of disappointment and resignation.Seeing the sadness on his friend's face, Haruki felt a pang of empathy and immediately sought to comfort her. His voice was gentle yet filled with a determination to lift her spirits."Both of you were so close, weren't you? If it hadn't been for those demon worshippers causing trouble at the end, our whole group might have made it into the top 10," he said, trying to inject positivity into the situation.Charlotte nodded slightly, appreciating his effort but still feeling the sting of their narrow miss. "I'm not so sure about that... but we should still celebrate the 2... no, now 3 of us who made it into the top 10! Maybe we could go out for dinner tonight... have a little party or something?"As she spoke, Charlotte absentmindedly twirled a lock of her shiny golden hair around her finge
They walked through it unharmed, and not only that, they managed to carry on a lively conversation, smiling as if they were taking a casual stroll. The air was filled with their laughter and light-hearted banter, starkly contrasting the tense situation at hand. "Do you think we'll be alright?" one of them asked, their voice tinged with curiosity and concern.Ryoshu's mind was racing. He vividly remembered the second scene, every detail etched into his memory, and knew he had to act swiftly. The weight of urgency pressed down on him, his thoughts a chaotic whirl as he considered the implications. "I hope the scene hasn't progressed too far… I need to hurry…" he muttered under his breath, feeling the pressure mount. Without wasting another moment, he took a deep breath and plunged into the invisible curtain that separated him from his goal. The instant he entered, an eerie sensation washed over him. Once responsive and under his control, his body began to betray him. It was as if an u
