Perseus began to rethink his decision when he was made to sit on a chair in front of a table. His expression was sore as he glanced at the game.

The game Gold had suggested they play was chess. It was the most boring game ever for Perseus; he hadn't even played it yet. He had no idea how it was played.

[Chess is a two-player strategy game played on an 8x8 grid called a chessboard.]

[Each player controls 16 pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns.]

Perseus arched his eyebrows at Iris. “I only know the queen; what are the rest?”

Iris glared at him. You know nothing about chess! [How can you agree to play?!]

Perseus ran his hand through his hair. “I only remember my mother playing it, and it was the queen I know of.”

[Then listen to me.]

Iris continued. [The objective is to checkmate the opponent's king, meaning the king is under attack and has no legal move to escape capture.]
