The red light forced the car to a halt. The driver, visibly irritated, drummed his fingers on the steering wheel, impatient to reach his destination.

He glanced at the backseat, where Lexi lay unconscious. Her hair splayed over the seat. Initially, he had tossed her into the trunk but decided against it, fearing it might draw more suspicion.

Pressing hard against the horn, he grumbled under his breath, waiting for the light to change. His phone rang, and he answered it with a curt, “I've got her like you requested. She is currently in the back seat of the car I am driving. I'll handle her just as we agreed."

“Good,” a voice replied. “Make her regret arresting my brother. Make sure she suffers before she dies.”
