He inhaled and exhaled when his dad knocked.

"Maks! Maksim Demetrius Anderson, you step outside, right now!" He banged on the door. "Open up!"

Maks stayed back ruddy-nosed and he held on to the door handle and clenched his hand on it. At this point, he was tone-deaf, there was no way chance in hell that he was going to tell his father that he was busy fighting and trying to keep them safe.
