Chapter1: The beginning

Phoenix, Arizona.

He pulled up his sleeve and then looked at the sunburn, scolding himself for not taking the bus. The streets were busy and an autobus paused.

It was sunny today on the seventeenth of April. Maks Anderson checked his phone for the current weather report and it just passed 87 degrees.

"How hotter could it possibly get?"

He said by the roadside waiting for a bus when a big blue bus stopped before him and he wasted no seconds to hop in.

"Whoa" He held on to the bar.

It didn't take much time until the driver raised an alarm.

Honk Honk!!!

"Hang on!" He yelled.

Maks panicked, there was panic everywhere, the bus started to swerve, it diverted from the huge truck and lunged on the rocky path to a building.

The bus smashed into the entrance and it sent glass everywhere. Pushing a mass of rubble, tables and chairs toward the front office desk.

The cashier leapt out of the way but fell short when he was thrown off by a flying chair.

Maks wobbled holding on to the bar as tightly as possible, hanging on for his dear life. His teeth clenched as the heap of bodies fell over shoving him to the back of the bus.

He groaned as something came heavily on his foot and it seemed like his toes were going to be ripped off before he got a chance to escape.

He fell victim to the passengers' weight suffocating him and the weight crushed his spine.

The madness was over and the passengers gasped backing away once the external force was stable enough to stop the autobus in its tracks.

He gasped and exhaled hobbling out of the vehicle, his senses were going crazy and he could hear a high-pitched noise lurching forward.

He fainted on the ground while the others recovered. His teeth rattled when he hit the ground and his fingers twitched, the force was strong enough to pull him back to reality and he rolled over.

No, he wasn't doing that.

[What's happening to me?]

He had a mild episode of contractions when the paramedic touched him and his vision was blurry.

"What is happening to him?"

[Ah, don't touch me damnit!]

He was screaming mentally as they rescued him, for the first time, he didn't want to be rescued, the pressure from their hands was immense and the sudden flash of lights felt like a million exploding suns.

[Am I dying?]

"He's having a concoction," The male said flashing the light in his eyes. "And...spasms"

"Young man, what is your name?"

[I am not, you fool!]

He couldn't speak anymore for some reason.

Maks' head spun. He groaned as they lifted him to a stretcher. Driving him to the hospital, of all the victims, he suffered the impact of the quick movements and the others crushing him.

Why did he have to take the most hits? He wept the rest of the way. He wished he could stop sobbing like a wuss in front of them but the pain was too unbearable, and his hands clenched on both sides of the bed.

Doreen Fletcher-Anderson, his stepmom quickly ran to his side, she could not believe it when she was called by the hospital about Maks's accident, she was really scared that something out of the ordinary may happen to him

He had not even finished high school, and it wouldn't be fair if he missed most of the term. She hoped his case was not too severe.

His annoying half-sibling Jessica wailed seeming less annoying than before, her blue eyes dilated and she placed a hand on his knee.

Her fingers hurt, his skin was more sensitive, like it would rip off easily. His eyes teared up as the pain lingered, it was like adding salt to a fatal wound.

"Here" Doreen, his stepmom turned on the fan to cool him down.

At first, he felt at ease. Then his skin started to boil. He felt a huge deal of thirst, he was edging away from the breeze. Never had he been so repulsed by the breeze in this heat!

Doreen's eyes tilted and she cried not knowing what to do. She seemed helpless at this critical time.

He did not like his stepmom but he hated to see her this downcast. He had this sudden urge to reach for her hand but there was no way that was he going to risk more pain.

The doctor stepped inside the patient room. He had brown hair with grey streaks. He didn't know what to say, he was at loss for words as to why her step-son developed such a high level of sensitivity after the accident_of course he would be sore. But this was intense.

[Say something]

His eyes moved over his face and hers. She held her fingers while he spoke briskly to her holding her shoulders.

His head turned and he couldn't hear anything other than his heartbeats.

Jessica waved a hand on his face, and his eyes watered as he turned to the metal cabinet by his side, or was that the heartrate monitor?

He took the air in gasps and his eyes moved rapidly over the hospital's white floors noticing stuff as insignificant as the dirt crumbs on the floor or the half-empty pen with the chewed-up end or a white stuffed puppy.

Why was he craving dirt??

[Transformation pending in 0.06 hours]

He flinched when he heard a voice but it had no source. He was not in his right mind.

Then a blue light developed before his eyes, he blinked at the writing that unfolded.

He winced at the comment.

[Wait, why is my name spelt like that? What transformation?]

[Welcome to the Animal Cultivation Program. M.A.K.S]

[This is insane!] He thought wiggling to the side, he blinked and screamed at Doreen's hand on him.

[What is happening in 6 minutes?]
