I'm Not A Church Rat

Robin froze as soon as he heard those words. Even though the Squandering System was too good to be true, he couldn't let himself become the poorest of the poorest. He had enough of being poor, why would he become poorer?

"This has to be a dream!" He whispered, in a low tone as he got up from the floor. However, a sudden dizzy spell hit him and he almost fell back to the floor.

"Ahh.." He cried out, in pain as he held onto his head, quickly only to find out there was blood trickling down his head. He could feel his heart skip a beat at the thought that he was losing blood.

Suddenly, he heard that strange voice in his head, again.

[Don't fret! The Squandering System has got you covered! Perform your tasks and you can use your points to replenish your body! You will become whole!]

As soon as Robin heard those words, he couldn't believe it. First, it was about the money and now it was about his body and health. He started to think that this was a prank as he had never heard of such a system before. In the next second, he started to walk out of the gym room, just to go to the clinic.

However, he halted and swiftly, he burst into a peal of mocking laughter.

"Where do I get the money?" He asked himself. He had no money to even pay for his hospital bills. He wouldn't be paid for his job since he had ruined the whole thing.

For a split second, Robin turned hopeless but then his eyes lit up at the thought of the so-called system in his body. He thought that there was no harm in trying to check if he had become rich. It would be surreal however great to think that he had that much money.

Swiftly, Robin summoned strength and walked out of the gym room. He ignored the curious eyes on him and walked out of the university. Several minutes passed and It was almost 4 pm of closing hours when he got to the bank. His eyes shone with so much determination to get to the root of the sudden system in his body.

If he was being pranked, Robin swore to find out who was behind it and give him a beating.

"Where do I go?" Robin asked himself, confused, as he stood before the entrance of the bank. It was still a bit crowded and he couldn't wait until everyone was attended to as it would be too late. Slowly, his eyes fleeted across to the VIP entrance where only wealthy clients were attended to and they lit up. The entrance was free to pass and the fact that he had $1 million in his account, he thought he had become a VIP.

He had no second thoughts since he was eager to verify his account balance.

Without thinking twice, Robin rushed toward the entrance but then he was stopped immediately.

"What do you want, man?" He heard a voice and he looked beside him only to see an irritated-looking security guard.

"I want to go in." Robin replied, simply and he earned another look from the security guard. Robin felt weirded out as the guard looked at him and in turn, he looked down at himself. He was dressed shabbily in a worn-out shirt and he could see specks of blood on his shirt.

"Did you take a look at yourself? Can you see how dressed you are?" The security guard asked and Robin was taken aback. Those words were hurtful to him but he decided to take them as a bitter pill.

"Does that even matter? I just need to be attended to urgently." Robin laid down his complaint, calmly. He wasn't willing to exchange words with the guard but then he couldn't have his way when he looked so poor.

Swiftly, the guard burst into a peal of mocking laughter. He was amused at the way Robin talked calmly. He looked like a weak dog begging for attention. He didn't even have the charisma belonging to a rich person.

"You look so poor and weak like a stray dog. Of what use do you think you are?" The security guard asked in a degrading tone and it felt like Robin was being stabbed in the heart. He never knew a stranger's words could hurt this much.

"But..." He tried to say something but he was shut up, swiftly.

"Poor people don't talk here, man! We attend to only VIP clients here and you are not one. You can turn around and go to the public entrance and shout like the rest are doing. So, you can fuck off!" The guard said with a sneer and a demeaning look.

At his words, Robin was starting to get livid and embarrassed, coupled with the pain in his heart. His hands clenched into tight fists as he tried to control his emotions.

"You shouldn't look down on me that way. You never know who I am." Robin tried to defend himself. He did not want to be seen as worthless and penniless but he couldn't help it as that was what he looked like.

"You? Who are you? You look like a church rat and that's what you are!" The security guard fired at him and Robin was taken aback. Those were the words Durk had said to him and at this point, he was desperate to change the notion.

"I'm not a church rat!" He yelled desperately.

"I really do have money! So, please let me in." He pleaded in a low tone. He was really trusting in the Squandering System. He needed to prove to everyone that he wasn't poor and that he had $1 million.

"If you aren't poor, then I must be the richest man on earth!" The guard replied as Robin looked really pathetic to him.

"Rich men don't beg to be noticed, man. So, you are not considered one." The guard added and he walked forward, to get Robin out of the area. His very presence was desecrating the VIP entrance.

At the same time, footsteps resounded in the air and a lady dressed in a black suit appeared. She had been hearing about the commotion from inside but she couldn't make sense of it.

"What is going on here?" She asked out loud and immediately the guard stood at attention while Robin wondered who the lady was.
