Chapter 12: Is this a new start?

Piano stopped amidst everything, he couldn't believe what he was seeing right now.

"Why did you stop?", Jiro asked as he suddenly pulled his head down and looked at Piano.

"Do you remember I told you I was chasing after a secret messenger", Piano said in a calm tone, such a situation was in front of him, yet he did not panic or feel any sympathy towards that person.

Jiro nodded his head. "What about that?".

"I didn't expect it but he is dead. He fell into the illusion and apparently took his own life in that illusion. Look..."

He raised his hands and pointed out towards a tree that was twenty steps away from them.

Jiro's eyes followed the instructions and stopped at a certain sight. There was a human figure under the tree, wearing black clothes which had everything hidden under it, only his face was viable.

The body had started cremation. Even though they were twenty steps away, the flesh rotting smell could be sensed. The rotting smell had spread in the air and was timeline into their nose, the smell was quite disgusting.

If a normal person stood there, there's no way he would be unaffected, and would start vomiting immediately.

Jiro covered his nose with his small hands immediately as the smell touched the inside of his nose, he felt a nuisance.

"It means you have nothing to worry about now. The only eyewitness which could give reveal your secrets is dead now, you are free from this worry", Jiro was feeling for some reason when he saw that person dead.

He knew nothing about that secret messenger. But based on what Piano said, this person was very dangerous to him. If Piano was to track him down already, he would have died by his hands long ago.

So Jiro was kind of glad that this guy wasn't killed by Piano. At least, Piano's hand has no blood from this guy.

"You are right that I have nothing to fear now. But this wasn't right either. This forest...it took his life. This wasn't fair", Piano felt unfair.

He might have not killed him, but this forest did. But that happened because he chased after him. If he was to stop chasing after the secret messenger, there's no way he would have taken a detour and escaped here...

Then...he should still be alive by now.

It's his fault too.

"Don't blame yourself. It wasn't your fault that he died. If he had surrendered himself sooner, he would still be alive. You don't have to resent yourself for someone else", Jiro was trying to make him less resentful about himself.

"On the other side, it happened for the better I guess. If you have not chased after him, how will I have met you?", On the other side, this happened for the better too.

Via this person, Jiro met Piano. This meeting was no less than any disaster. But Piano arrived like a shining light to his darkness-filled life.

So this was actually a fortune.

Piano took twenty steps and stopped before the secret messenger. He then took off his cape and put it on the dead guy.

"No matter how it happened, he is no longer in this world now. We should bid him goodbye with a smile on our faces. I hope he will live a better life in his next life..."

Although how bad this guy, Piano was still kind-hearted to him. After praying to God, he smiled at the dead body and then walked away.

Nobody is born evil, this world, and its situations are the one who makes the person who he is.

Everyone has their mind and path to follow, it depends on them where and which path they wanna take.

"We have our people to protect, it depends on us which method we choose. Some people can stay sane in any situation and still be able to smile and try to protect their loved ones. Why do some people give up before life, they choose other methods and ways to live their lives and protect their people. We can't judge them".

"How many people have you killed till now?", Jiro asked.

"I can't remember, I have lost count by now. I have gone on a battlefield many times, I took part in the village army many times, and also killed those who had ill motives and entered the village", Piano was honest with him and shared with him.

Growing up as an important person, he had many difficulties, people had many expectations from him and they still do have. He is the main person in the village after his father, so he bears many responsibilities.

Growing up, he had broken many promises made during his rebellious phase, it's only now that he understands what he did was indeed wrong but it was important. He doesn't want to have any regrets, he has decided to do everything with his almost.

They kept on walking for one and a half an hour, and finally...there was an end to this forest they could see from afar. It was just some distance away.

"System! Can you scan this area? I want to know how far we are from the exit", Jiro thought in his mind.

Just as he said so, the system didn't speak anything but started examining the whole area around them. Jiro couldn't see anything that the system was doing but he could feel that it was working.

And just after thirty seconds, the result was in front of him. The notification popped out in front of his eyes, results were showing on the glass-like blue screen.

At least this system was working somewhere. Or else he thought it was useless.

There were only twenty-two minutes left before the mission ends. Even though he had not succeeded in any mission of both, he was kind of feeling proud of himself.

The demon queen was around him, walking side by side and getting more and more dense and anxious as the end was reaching. She was stuck here for thousand years, it's been thousand years since the last time she saw the real sun and real moon at the night.

So as much as she was excited, she was scared too. Many things were crossing his mind. What if she failed to pass the crossing? What if her body does not move after reaching the end? What if her soul scattered?

There was so much to scare her but she still believes that she can find her sunshine.

Thousand years ago she was locked up and prisoned for crimes she never committed. That mage... in the name of justice, took his personal revenge on the demon clan. He trapped the queen of the demon clan, tortured her until she was sucked away from her original power, and then threw her away in a bloody forest.

For days and years, she tried breaking off the magic created by that mage. She tried her best to break free from the illusionary spell.

But nothing worked out. Every time she regained the least of her magic powers and tried to use it to break the spell, her magic backfired and hurt herself instead.

And now she had lost count of how many years she was trapped inside. To her, those thousand years were nothing...she was numb to pain now that nothing scares her.

But it was her thinking before meeting Jiro and Piano.

She had lost hope of getting out of this place, and in frustration, she killed many monsters and people who entered the forest. Just like the forest itself, she trapped them in her illusion with the small amount of magic she had.

She was angry and frustrated, everything fell upon those victims of her.

And it's the first time in thousand years that those hopes are raising within her already icy heart.

She wants to kill these two. But for some reason, she can't. It is not within her reach to even touch them...

A strange aura can be seen excluding Jiro's body. Nobody can see it, but she can see it.

Like he was looking, weak, he was not. This guy was not as he look, something was strange and weird about him.

It's as if, there's someone else in his body. And that body does not belong to him.

After walking for so long, they were finally standing at the ending point, they can't need to cross it now. One step ahead and they would be out of the illusionary dungeon.

Piano was frozen there for like ten seconds now. And the Demon Queen could see the golden shining line in front of her on the ground. It was probably the border.

Demon Queen closed her eyes tightly, and her body was shaking...it was her anxiety and fear, she wants to take a step forward, but her body was flinching from fear.

"My lord, my life is in your hands now".
