Chapter 7 : A night of sinister celebration

Dean stood in silence for several minutes, looking at the head of the man who killed his mother.

The rush of satisfaction he gained from taking his life had already faded, and he found himself slowly giving into anger.

He knew he needed to make this moment more profound, more impactful, not just to him but to the people responsible.

"THE PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE!" said Dean loudly, as Carlos raised an eyebrow, while still standing in the corner.

Nathan might have been the one who killed his mother, but he was merely a pawn, a pawn of the four heavenly kings who were the the true masterminds of his misfortune.

Dean smiled to himself, he had just found a way to make this night more impactful.

"Carlos!" He called pointing in the man's direction.

"Get the cleaners, clean up the scene, dispose of the car, get a coffin for Nathan, ...and get me a duffle bag"

With a smile Dean added "also get me information on the wearabouts of Karl Newton, I'll be paying him a visit tonight".

“Carlos!” He called, pointing in the man's direction.

“Get the cleaners, clean up the scene, dispose of the car, get a coffin for Nathan, …and get me a duffle bag”

With a smile, Dean added, “also get me information on the whereabouts of Karl Newton, I'll be paying him a visit tonight”.

The Newton's were one of four heavenly kings of Reville, and that night was a special night for the family.

It was the 70th birthday of their Patriarch, Karl Newton.

The man who had taken the Newton family from a middle-class clan to the number one family in all of Reville.

The Reville mansion was a thirty room, thirty five bath palace, that stood on a thirty thousand square foot compound, filled to the brim with every luxurious amenity known to man.

That night, the house was lit up like a Christmas tree due to the celebrations and the fleets of luxurious cars were gathered outside the house.

These vehicles belonged to the top echelon of Reville, the politicians, the celebrities, the top entrepreneurs and many more.

Inside the hall room, where all the guests chattered amongst themselves while drinking the most premium of wines, a woman stood in front of the hall room, cheerfully announcing the gifts that were being given to the family.

“The Sheng Wu group presents this is a golden dragon ornament, from the deepest and most ancient city in Inner Mongolia, said to represent strength, resilience, courage and wisdom, all traits held in the highest levels by the great Karl Newton” she said.

“The group's founder, Li Xin, procured this outstanding ornament almost 50 years ago, and it is valued at over 10 million dollars”

This announcement was followed by a rush of enthusiastic clapping, although the night wasn't over yet.

“The Millard's present to the great Karl Newton, a 1935 ford Excalibur, the only one of its kind left standing, valued at a marvellous 25 million dollars”

This announcement was followed by a loud standing ovation.

“The Pierre family, coming all the way from the great nation of Öland, present to Mr Karl Newton, a bottle of their 1917 Pierre gold premium, a drink so exclusive and sought after, that a single bottle can reach prices as high as 50 million dollars”

This announcement caused the hall room to break into thunderous cheers and applause.

“The guests have surely outdone themselves this time” thought Karl Newton, as even he was compelled to clap at the absolutely outstanding gift.

Karl stood on the balcony above the hall room, overlooking the guests below him.

He wore a silver snake print suit that basically ensured that he stood out amongst the sea of black suited men and women in attendance.

Despite just turning 70, the old man had done well to keep himself healthy and fit.

He, like most of the males in the family, had a military background and had kept that military discipline throughout his life.

Looking around the hall room, Karl was very pleased with the quality of guests in the hall.

Every important person even remotely relevant to Reville was in attendance.

Even the Hamilton family had somehow managed to get an invitation to the party, he remembered them giving him an ornamental family heirloom worth around 1 million dollars.

Karl laughed at this, he couldn't imagine just how much the family had to give up to get their hands on such a valuable ornament.

It amused him just how far people who he would forget the moment he turned his head would go to please him, even if he never returned the favour.

Behind his gleeful smile however, was a worrying mind.

Looking around the hall room, across the sea of guests present, he couldn't spot his youngest son, Nathan.

His third child and only daughter Mariam, and his second son Orville were both in attendance, while his first son Christopher was out on business in a neighbouring city.

Despite this, he had sent his father a brand-new Golden retriever as a gift for his birthday, due to his father's love of dogs.

Nathan however, was nowhere to be found.

Karl always thought the boy was a slacker, but he'd never miss his old man's birthday party, not after everything he'd done for him.

Carl soon went down to the hall room to meet and greet some of his guests.

His walk down the stairs was enthusiastically announced by the party MC.

Once at the hall room, Karl began to walk around, greeting guests and looking for his son Nathan.

After 20 minutes of this, he still hadn't found him.

Karl tried calling his phone, but it kept saying the device was switched off.

Now distressed, Karl went to his son Orville to inform him of his worries.

“Orville, something is wrong”

Orville looked at his father in confusion, “what's going on dad?”

“It's your bother Nathan, the party has been going on for about 4 hours now, and he still isn't here, his phone also isn't going through” said Karl in a worried voice.

Orville laughed at this,”C'mon dad, you know how Nathan is sometimes, he's probably eating at some fancy restaurant, or is at some random hotel doing God knows what, doing worry, he'll be here”

Upon seeing that's his father's look of worry had not changed, Orville placed a hand on his father's shoulder.

“Come on dad, it's going to be okay, it's almost time for you to make a toast, so you need to go up there, the guests are waiting for you”.

Karl shook his head in disagreement and removed Orville's hand from his shoulder “No Orville, I'm not going to make a toast unless I see my son, do you understand?” said Karl now looking at his son in anger.

Raising his hands in defeat, Orville said, "alright dad, it's fine… since you're so bothered by this, I'll send a search party to go look for him, will that be good?”

Nathan nodded in agreement.

With a sigh, Orville was about to go gather the search party, but then his phone began to ring.

Taking the device out of his pocket, Orville looked at the screen and smiled.

“Speak of the devil” said Orville as he answered the call.

He spoke to the person on the other side for a few seconds before cutting the call and turning to his father.

“See dad, I told you there was nothing to worry about”

“Who was that?” asked Karl.

“It was one of Nathan's bodyguards, he said that he would be arriving at the house soon, and the reason he was away for so long is that he went out to pick out a surprise gift for you” replied Orville.

Karl breathes a gigantic sigh of relief, at least his son was safe, he had actually started to fear the worst.

Seeing the look of relief on his father's face, Orville placed his two hands on both his father's shoulders and shook him playfully “You see dad, I told you there was nothing to worry about, now go make that toast, it's been four hours already, you don't want the guests to feel like you forgot how to throw your own birthday party”.

Karl chuckled lightly and adjusted his jacket, it was time to go make a toast.

Walking up to a small podium at the front of the hall room, Karl stood on this podium, allowing the already tall man to rise above everyone else in the room.

Taking up his champagne glass and hitting it with a spoon, the entire hall room quieted down.

“While I am a man who needs little introduction, I would like to thank each and every one of you all for taking time out of your night, to attend this 70th birthday celebration of mine”.

Looking around the room, Karl then raised his glass high into the air, “I'll like us all, to toast to…"

BANG!!

Multiple loud noises coming from the outside of the Newton mansion, followed by the sounds of screaming guests, interrupted Karl's toast.

Confused, Karl got down from the podium and looked through the windows, attempting to access the situation.

This failed as the outside of the house had become silent, and the lights had been shut down.

Nathan then turned to his son Orville and asked, “what the hell is going on?”

“I have no idea” replied Orville, visibly afraid.

The hall then fell into indistinct muttering and chatters, as everyone was confused and trying to figure out what was going on.

BAM!!

It was a sound so loud it created a small sonic boom.

The entire hall room looked towards the direction the sound had come from, only to see that the two, heavy duty metal doors that protected them from the carnage of the outside now lay on the floor, both of them torn from their hinges.

The sight of this caused the entire hall to fall into deafening silence, not even the sound of people's breaths could be heard.

Two men, wearing hoodies and Guy Fawkes masks, stepped into the hall room.

They had no weapons on them, so everyone knew they had kicked down the door. Which was supposed to be impossible as the door was completely bulletproof!

One of them was carrying a coffin, while another was carrying a duffle bag.

The hall room looked at these two men in confusion, wondering who they were.

These two men, were Dean Bradson and Carlos Mendoza.
