EPISODE 3: Reunion With Elise

Alex and Edith walked pass the security guards of the bank lying on the floor passed out, the vital point strike that Alex has landed in them earlier somehow took effect again and made them faint right after they have recovered and were about to chase after him.

People have gathered around them and an ambulance was already approaching the compound as he and Edith just walked out of the bank’s compound. Alex started heading straight to his sister’s school to pick her up. As they arrived, Edith refused to enter the school premise because that is her school.

“Do not worry, it will not matter that people see you like this soon enough. Everybody will be too busy trying to survive!” Alex said, and dragged her in with him. As soon as the gate security saw him, they rushed to stop him.

“This is an all-girls school young man. Who are you here to see?” the security asked and Alex just looked at them and said.

“I am here to pick up my sister, Elise.”

The security looked sat him well and saw how dirty and bloody both his uniform and that of Edith are and told him that he has to wait for her, that they were going to get her.

“I have not told you her surname or the class she is in. Do you really expect me to be tricked by such a shallow ploy? If you want to call the police on me, you should have done so without insulting my intelligence like this.” Alex said.

“Damn it, restrain him. He may have been the one that kidnapped the girl who was reported missing by her friend yesterday.” One of the security guards said and pulled out a Taser.

He charged at Alex before the rest of the three security men arrived with the intention of Tasing him and tackling him before the police arrive, that was what he was thinking. However, when he reached Alex and jabbed out the Taser, crackling with electric sparks, he was sure that from his position he had already Tassed him, but when the strike should connect; he did not feel any contact.

Alex has leapt into the air above and from above, he kicked the security guard on the side of the chin and knocked him out. The rest of the two security guards have just arrived and each of them has taken out a Taser.

“Shit, there are three more of them, but this is nothing. In my previous life, I was able to fight tens of mid-level evolved zombies, so I should be able to manage three security guards at least.” He said to himself.

“Stop mumbling and just let us take you in before you get hurt kid we …….” The first guard was saying when Alex smashed his face with a roundhouse kick, he immediately struck the guard’s vital points and tranquilized him.

A strong volt of electricity suddenly passed through Alex’s body, leaving him in pain and almost unable to move. But with a kick to the face, Alex knocked out another of the guards down. He picked the Taser from the guard’s hand. In no time, he has already knocked out the two of the guards left.

He turned around and looked at Edith. “we need to get my sister and get out of here as soon as we can the hell out of here before the police arrive. It will be a great disadvantage to be arrested right now.” He said.

They went straight to Elise’s classroom and met the class in the middle of a biology period. Alex opened the door and looked around the class, the teacher was busy asking him who he is but Alex’s mind was focused on finding Elise, seeing her was all that he needed to confirm that what he is experiencing at the moment is not just some fabricated dream.

As soon as he saw Elise, it was as if he had finally been reassured that his sister was alive. Tears of joy were rolling down his cheeks, and he could not contain his happiness.

Elise was sitting in the third seat in the middle row of the classroom, her short hair blowing in the wind, and her brown eyes gleaning with life.

She was wondering why her brother would come to her school to pick her when he should be in school at the moment, but when she saw his shirt covered in blood, she stood from her seat and ran to hug him.

After he has taken some time to finally calm himself down, Alex finally stroke his sister’s hair and said.

“I am here to take you to safety Elise, we should get out of here first I will explain everything to you later!” he said and walked out of the school with Elise and Edith side by side, just missing the police as they get out of the school compound.

Alex took them straight to the city shopping mall from the school, buying both himself, Elise and Edith a change of clothes. He got them both a set of black and brown hoodies and the same thing for himself.

As they were coming out of the section of the mall where they bought their change of clothes, Elise called Alex’s attention to something that was being broadcasted on the news. Alex turned around and froze in place. On the TV in the mall, the newscaster was showing images of a large comet that meteorologists and scientists around the world are baffled by.

“Normally, any meteor of this size will be detected a few months away from where it is today, experts also said that for an unknown reason, the composition of the meteor has failed to be determined, but do not worry for the course of the meteor despite its side is going to miss the earth as it passes by, but it sure will light the sky with a large streak of light that can be seen tomorrow in the afternoon.” The news woman said.

In Alex’s mind, he was shouting, “Impossible!” he remembers clearly that the infernal rain happened three days from the day they are.

“Is this the butterfly effect? I saved Edith from the serial killer, beat my school bullies and even got Elise out of school. Did the accumulation of all of my actions since I regressed changed the course of events by this much? This is not important however, I have to make preparations and I need to do so quickly. Tomorrow, by this time, it will already be over!”

He grabbed Elise’s hand and said, “we need to go now. Something terrible is about to happen and we need to be prepared for it.”

He dragged them to the nearest automated teller machine and withdrew all of his savings for the last year. He counted some money and gave Edith.

“Use this to but four iron hockey sticks, golf clubs and baseball bats; meet me outside the mall in three hours. I will come with a vehicle.”

“You too Elise, use this to buy us four long range radio phones with the biggest battery capacity you can find, buy as much canned food as you can get from the mall and some tactical holster belts for all of us. Keep in mind I will be bringing a truck with me and keep to the time!” Alex said as he puts the rest of the money in his bag and was about to leave.

Elise grabbed his hand with visible confusion in her eyes and asked.

“What is going on, brother? You came to school to pick me up which was unusual because it was still school time and you were crying like you did the day dad killed mom, you brought us shopping immediately with a girl wearing my school uniform covered in bruises and now you are taking the money you have saved for a year for us and asking us to spend it on ridiculous things like golf clubs and hockey sticks. I am beginning to get scared, brother. Just what on earth is going on?” Elise asked with teary eyes.

Alex sighed and said. “I should have known that you are going to overthink this just as you do, but that is not necessarily a bad thing in the world after the infernal rain.” He walked to her and grabbed both her hands gently and kissed her on the forehead.

“Trust me like you always have Elise, you know I have never broken a promise I have made for you, right? I promise you that I will explain everything later. Just trust me on this one too! Can you do that?” he explained and asked.

Elise instantly brightened up and grabbed Alex’s shirt. “Don’t keep us waiting too long.” She said and with a playful smile, Alex rushed out of the city mall.

As soon as he went out, he took a taxi to the other side of town and went straight to the docks where a storage warehouse was situated, this is an area that he is very familiar with and this is because Alex has worked for the mafia that runs the docks for three years now. He passed three guys at the entrance of the warehouse and went straight inside to meet with Yondu, the local mafia arms dealer.

He called Yondu to the side where the rest could not hear them.

“What brought you here today Alex, your shift starts next week and want more money than I have already loaned you?” Yondu said.

Alex looked left and right to make sure none of the other guys could see or hear him and he said.

“I am not here for more money. In fact, I am here to pay you back and buy some of your stuff. There is a new client in town and he is going big for the purchase. This is good business.” Alex said and pulled out some money from his bag and handed it to Yondu.

“This is all that I owe you with double the interest.” He said and pulled out even more money, count it and handed it also to him.

“And this is for the new purchase. The client wants five Glock pistols, a Katana, and fifty rounds of ammo for each of the guns. If you count the money well, you will see that I have added your cut to the actual price of the merch.” Alex explained.

Yondu quickly counted the money and slide it into his pocket. He looked in both directions to make sure that none of the other members were seeing what had just happened before he turned around and said.

“Follow me!”

Alex followed Yondu back to the other side of the warehouse, where the rest of the members of the gang were gathered and waiting. Yondu opened a locker on the wall and pulled out a bag full of guns; he picked five Glock pistols out of the bag and lined them on the table where Alex was standing. He now picked ten magazines full of ammo and placed them on the table. Yondu walked back to the locker and pulled out five small boxes of bullets and placed them on the table for Alex. He called one of his lackeys and asked him to bring over the Katana that he uses for Alex and he did.

Alex did not waste time in packing all the guns, suppressors and bullets into his bag. He grabbed the sword, turned, and left the warehouse immediately.

Right after he left, Yondu gathered his three most trusted gangsters in the gang. He asked them to tail Alex and see where he is going and who he is giving the guns he just bought from.

Alex got in another taxi and went straight to the car rental services that is in the middle of the town, he went straight to the truck section and started looking through the off-road trucks that are on the display and decided on the most aggressive one he could find.

“How much for a full day rental of this one? Also, I can drive. I have my license.” He said.

The lady that works in the car rental service flipped through her books and told him the price. She checked his license and identification card before finally handing over the truck’s keys to him.

He walked to the truck and placed his bags on the passenger seat on the front and got in, starting the engine and driving out of the place. He went straight to the filling station and stopped, buying five large fifty liters gallons and pumping them full of fuel first, sealing them tight and putting each of them at the back of the truck, and closed it.

He opened the truck’s tank and started fuelling it when he heard some strange noises from the back of a car that looks oddly familiar to him since this is the third place he is seeing it, Alex immediately knew that he was being chased so he set the fuel to stop pumping automatically when the tank is full and walked away in the direction of the mini-mart near the filling station.

From behind the car, three of Yondu’s gangsters sit at the back of their car watching Alex as they smoke in the afternoon's cold, they have been quietly tailing him since he left the warehouse and as they were smoking, suddenly another truck entered the station, slightly blocking Alex from their view for a few seconds and that was all he needed to disappear from their sight.

“Where did he go?” one of them asked?

“Get out there and look for him. Make sure he doesn’t recognize you.” The older one among them said and two of them walked out of their hiding and went towards the mini-mart.

As soon as they left, he pulled out a smoke and lighted it, putting his lighter back, he saw a coin on the floor and bent down to pick it, as soon as he stood back up, and from nowhere a Katana was on his neck with Alex standing by the side.

“Listen carefully, if you don’t want your mother to have a funeral soon, you will get out of here and get back to Yondu. Tell him you lost me in this filling station and our encounter here will remain our dirty little secret. You are not new like the rest of them, so you should know my reputation. If you try anything funny with me, you die!” Alex said and disappeared as quietly as he appeared on the man.

Alex got into his truck and drove out of the filling station, heading straight to the city center where Elise and Edith were waiting for him.

When he arrived at the entrance of the mall, Elise and Edith have just finished buying the supplies he tasked them with. He helped them all get the things they bought off the carts and into the back of the truck before they all got in and drove away.
