Whispers

He lay in his bed constantly tossing and turning. The whispers of the vampire lord, Omar, disturbed his peace of mind. Due to his nature, he possessed an incredible psychic perception, which was why he was able to hear Omar’s whispers. It was concerning the ring of the damned. He thought they had recovered the ring of the damned, thus overcoming his greatest fear. Unfortunately, he hadn’t. The worst was only just beginning.

He then awoke with a boisterous cry. The whispers were too disturbing to handle. He got up from his bed and went to the bathroom to wash his face. Then he stared at the mirror in front of him. He tried to silence the noise, and he did. He was sure that he still possessed the ring of the damned, so why on earth was he being sickened by Omar’s whispers?

Subsequently, he took out his phone from his back pocket and dialed Roland, his mentor’s line. It rang, and he eventually picked it up.

“Any problem, Oly?” Roland asked with a sleepy tone.

“I don’t think the ring’s safe here with me,” Oliver said.

“It is. You’re a very powerful creature. You have magical powers. “You’re even stronger than these vampires that roam around the streets.” “Trust me, the ring’s safer with you,” Roland assured.

“Roland, the fucking vampire lord is in my head.” I can’t even have a good night’s sleep. He’s messing with my head. “The ring can’t stay here,” Oliver insisted.

“So what? You want it to stay with me? Oly, I’m a powerless assassin for the Vatican. I don’t have any magical powers like you do. “I’m basically useless against powerful mystical creatures like the vampire lord,” Roland said in his defense.

“I’m not foolish, Roland.” I love your life even more than you do. I was thinking we should give the ring to the priest, as St. Xavier’s “Oliver” suggested.

“Father Michael?” Roland asked.

“Yeah. He knows who and what exists in this city. “He knows what’s best for the humans, and what’s best is for the ring of the damned to be in safe hands,” Oliver said.

“You’re right. So tomorrow we hand it over to the priest?” Ronald asked.

“Yeah. Make sure no one is following you. No one must know about this. Father Michael is a very religious man. “But I bet he can’t withstand the evil in this city,” Oliver declared.

“Copy that. See you tomorrow, Oly. “Also, try and get some sleep,” Ronald said, and then he hung up.

Oliver was satisfied and then went back to bed. He was finally able to sleep.

The following morning, he got up and prepared to go meet the priest. Ronald came by, and from his place, they rode to St. Xavier’s in Oliver’s car.

“Father, Mrs. Welhourst’s husband just passed away.” She asks if you would be able to come over and pray for the dead. Damian, the church’s seminarian, asked Father Michael, who was taking his breakfast in the dining room.

“Mr. Welhourst is dead.” We spoke just last night. “He never mentioned any illness to me,” Father Michael said in shock.

“He was found with a broken neck in his car just in front of his house,” Damian said sadly.

Father Michael immediately knew it was the doings of the vampires. They were used to killing their victims by breaking their necks and not sucking them dry so as not to raise suspicion from humans.

“I’ll go see her now.” “Tell her I’m on my way,” Father Michael said, and then he stood up and prepared to leave.

A few minutes later, Oliver and Ronald came into the church. They saw Damain praying in front of the altar. Damian never knew the true identities of them both. He had always thought they were parishioners who were close friends of Father Michael.

He noticed their entrance and immediately paused his prayers to let them know that Father Michael wasn’t around.

“Good morning, brothers in the Lord. Father Michael isn’t around,” Damian said with respect.

“Who says I’m not?” Father Michael said he was coming in from the entrance as well. He then died before Jesus on the cross.

“Father?” “I thought you went to see the Welhoursts?” Damian asked in confusion.

“I received a call from his wife. She said they had another priest over to pray for him. “I sent my condolences, and now I’m here,” Father Michael explained sadly.

“Oh, okay,” Daman said, still confused.

“Father, we would like to have a word, please,” Oliver said.

“Damian, my boy, if you would please excuse us,” Father Michael suggested, and immediately, Damian went to the altar and continued his prayers.

“How may I help you, Oliver?” Father Michael asked sternly.

“I’m so sorry to bother you, father, but it’s very vital that I do.” The vampire lord is after the ring of the damned. I happen to possess that ring, and since then he won’t let me rest till I give it up. “I want to keep it here for safekeeping,” Oliver explained.

“I’m sorry, Oliver, but it’s a no,” Father Michael said sternly.

“Father, please. You are our only option. “You know what’s best for your parishioners and the humans like me in this city.” “If that ring gets into the wrong hands, this race is done for,” Roland begged.

“I’m getting drawn into your world so much that one day I won’t be able to handle the consequences of my actions,” Father Michael complained.

“You have God to protect you.” You also have me, the strongest and most powerful creature in this city. “I promise you, as long as you possess this ring, nothing is going to happen to you,” Oliver promised as he held the ring out. Father Michael took some time before he accepted the offer. He took the ring off Oliver’s hands and put it inside his pocket.

“Thank you, Father,” Ronald said with gratitude.

“After this, I want nothing to do with any supernatural business, understand?” Father Michael asked.

“Of course,” Oliver assured.

“We’ll be on our way, father.” “Thanks again,” Ronald said, and then he left the church with Oliver. Damian was still praying when they left. He noticed when Father Michael was left alone and then stood up, wanting to ask him a personal question. Ignorant Michael fled to his room in his house. Damian followed him behind secretly. Father Michael then got to his room and closed the doors. He went up to the window and stood there, staring into the atmosphere.

Worried Damian knocked on the door, calling Father Michael’s name repeatedly. Though he wasn’t aware of what was going on inside Father Michael’s room, he was worried because of the attitude change he noticed in him.

Father Michael would always join Damian in his prayers, and moreover, the Welhoursts were like a second family to Father Michael, so why was he at the parish house instead of their house consoling them? He knew that for his father, Michael, a phone call was never enough for his loved ones.

Father Michael had heard the knocks on his door, but he chose to ignore them. He then looked down and said to himself with a smirk, “Work done, Omar,” then he jumped.
