Ignition

      At a garden park.

"I don't have to ask how you're doing. You seem well."

I started, seated on a long armed-bench with him. For some reasons not specific, we'd kept a distance between each on the bench. 

He took me in his gaze. His eyes tender, but chin tough. Couldn't be sure what meaning to make of  that. 

"You seem fine too. I'm glad."

Those words were without friction. I nodded.

There was a brief silence between us. But twasn't awkward. I could see his lips making an attempt to move,

"About that n--"

"You might be wondering why I called you."

I had snatched the stance from him. He gave in, pushing his head down in sequence, thoughtfully. 

"I just want to hear from you. "

"What did you mom say?"

He was quick to ask. 

"It doesn't matter what she said. I want to hear from you. I know you've known that all this tim
