Evening.
~Dare Ofegu~
"I thought you said she would come home today."
There was no point holding back the argument any longer. She looked up from her tablet. Though it's reasonable and acceptable that we both have been waiting for the arrival of Ninny since morning. For her sake, we'd even shut out the urge of going steamy to the core. And because of that, Samantha had been nursing an infant grudge.
It's been over a week after the nasty and disturbing dream. And today is the birthday of Ninny. Though I knew I should had discussed the dream with Lara to further support my point of the wierd feelings I've been having lately. But even when I put a call through to her, few days ago, she'd screened it. She'd probably thought I wanted to talk her into taking money again.
"Sam?"
I called. She was quick to spare an ogle,
"We are all waiting!"
She concentrated on the tablet again. I squeeze
Same.~Dare Ofegu~"Not you ma, I love your daughter."All I could say at this moment is that, I opened my mouth and words of their own accord had dribbled their way out. That was the message I intended to put across but that wasn't actually the way I wanted to do it. But I know too well that, I can do everything but take back the words. As Samantha raised her head from the tablet. Her face was calm, still washed by the glee from the party. I didn't ask her what she was doing alone in her room when a party was going on in the sitting room. All I could think of was heaving my heart off this suicidal burden."How's it going Dare? Spoken with Ninny yet? If she hasn't come to you, maybe go to her. I already told her that you were the brain behind the party. She might want to say a word or two to show her gratitude."She looked away from me again to the tablet. She was seated on a swan chair, the tabl
Unknown.~Dare Ofegu~"Where are you now?"There was concern in her voice. But I don't really see the point, even though I had little a choice, the cold chill of the night crashing against my bare skin wouldn't me. Might I remind you, I was in a short, and in the middle of nowhere. Precisely, still walking up the gloomy tarred road dedicated to Samantha's Hood. Twould take another few minutes to get to the main express road. But thank goodness, Anny called."Just walking. Haven't gotten to the express road yet?""Do you have a place to go?"I could hear some voices in the background. I take it that she's still in Samantha's sitting room."Not really. But I could hang around a bar or stuff or go to a night club. Wherever that'd keep me up till the morning.""Don't be silly. Give me three minutes. I'll be there. Just stand somewhere."She didn't give me a chance to argue. She'd hung t
Anny's Quarters. The Next Morning.~Dare Ofegu~"Oh... Lord."I turned in bed. That would be the ten thousandth time I had done that through the night. And twas morning already. Do not ask me, I didn't have a goodnight rest. I think I did have a couple thirty minutes sleep, but the rest, turning and rolling in bed.It got to a point at 2:43AM, I'd climbed down the stairs to the living room. I tried watching a TV series but I got bored. My mind wasn't there. I couldn't concentrate. Yet, I couldn't sort my thoughts. I wasn't sure what I wanted to arrive at.As blank as my mind, was as clouded. Many things to think about, nothing falling through.I snapped my finger as Anny had told me, after showing me to this bedroom. The light came on. I checked the time on my wrist watch. I didn't even take a night bath let alone change into the night gown. I found no need."6:54AM."Pretty early, I
Before a bar.~Dare Ofegu~"Happens that the owner of an apple car has nothing anymore."She scorned, stepping out of the car. Goodness knew from where she got the car."Like you worked for the one you're riding."I sneered as I got the door of the car and stepped in. It's the Russian lady. I decided to call her instead of going to Anny's place. I feel a little bit awkward going back to Anny's."I take it that you want me to throw you out right away."She threatened, her fingers on the key below the wheel."I'll give you today."I admitted as she ignited the motion and pulled into the road."Good for you."She turned on the music. I wasn't taking that again. I turned the music down. She glared at me and turned it up again.I waited for few seconds, then made to fiddle with it. She pressed her palm to the back of my hand,"What kinda death wis
The Next Morning.~Dare Ofegu~"Where's she?"I stepped into the five star restaurant, scanning the breadth of the space. I wasn't sure in what direction to look. I should call her and ask where she was seated, but she didn't call earlier. She texted. But I didn't want to text. Other than the 'ok', I'd replied her, CAN WE MEET AT THIS ADDRESS, with."Looking for Samantha?"A voice came from behind me. I turned. Twas some random guy. No! The Spanish guy from Kafula. The update guy. Can't even remember his name."You."I wanted to lunge at him. I couldn't place the reason for that though, but I felt like he more than deserved it. But then I came to the realization that there was no point. I don't need Samantha anymore."Follow me."He turned, with a feigned smile and edged towards the end of the space, I trailing his frame. He took a turn towards an elevator and step
Later the day. 8PM. At a Bar.~Dare Ofegu~"Don't even make the mistake."I tilted my head slightly in the direction of the thick blonde who'd been checking me out all this while.I looked up and slurped from the glass of whiskey. Twas something I could gulp at a throw but I didn't want to.After I left Samantha since morning, I had returned to Cleaver's Ave. I had waited outside the gate for a while waiting probably Maria would show up all of a sudden. Even though I knew that the possibility was hundred to one.But unfortunately, I'd been caught by one of the patrolling cops who had warned me sternly never to return there unless things were sorted out, else I'd have a vacation behind bars. HIS WORDS.I looked in the direction of the lady again. She was still staring, occasionally moving to the groove of the music. I was seated at the counter.I recalled what the Russian l
On a Sunday. Anny's.~Dare Ofegu~"How can you even be sure?"She rolled her eyes at me. I had no idea what was going on in that mind of hers, with her legs stretched across the floor, placed on the table. She probably thinks of me as a friend she could be very free with, being around. Or she's just carefree by nature. Majority of them were always. Perhaps except Ninny."Does that even matter to you? You think you know all don't you?"She chuckled. Her face folded into a beautiful smile. For a moment, I considered her closely, a scrutinized gaze. I couldn't believe that I haven't noticed how really beautiful she was.The outline of her face was close to perfect, coupled with her lovely smile. Her button nose created a great impression on the full lips. I guess I was thinking too much. But truth be told, she's quite the beauty."Are you even listening?"I he
At a garden park. ~Ninny~ "I don't have to ask how you're doing. You seem well." I started, seated on a long armed-bench with him. For some reasons not specific, we'd kept a distance between each on the bench. He took me in his gaze. His eyes tender, but chin tough. Couldn't be sure what meaning to make of that. "You seem fine too. I'm glad." Those words were without friction. I nodded. There was a brief silence between us. But twasn't awkward. I could see his lips making an attempt to move, "About that n--" "You might be wondering why I called you." I had snatched the stance from him. He gave in, pushing his head down in sequence, thoughtfully. "I just want to hear from you. " "What did you mom say?" He was quick to ask. "It doesn't matter what she said. I want to hear from you. I know you've known that all this tim
