Saturday.
~Samantha's Hood~
"Let's stop here."
I halted, breathing heavily. The truth was we've been walking not running, but that wasn't relevant. It didn't seem to be.
"Are you tired already?"
Imara asked, holding that porous gaze.
"I'm not sure you know what fatigue is. I bet you can work all decades without stopping. Isn't that true?"
She tried shaking her head in disapproval. It seemed like I've thought her several things.
"If I'm not willing, I won't work. And no man in his right sense would have a bot work non-stop for several weeks. And come to think of it, can a man work non-stop from several weeks?"
"You seem to keep forgetting that you ain't a human. We are different. What if Samantha wants you to work for long without rest, or have you do what you don't want, would you turn her offer down?"
She whirred at me,
"With the quick analysis I've made of her, she i
Samantha's Hood.~Dare Ofegu~"Pick up please."I muttered, tottering down the lawn. My phone pressed to the lob of my ear."Please, Lara."I halted, turning to the side. Opposite me was a large building which looked like a chapel. There were still many places I haven't been to in the compound. That tells you how large it is.I'm certain that the land isn't an acre but in hectares. It's the disease of the eyes."Hey, Love."The voice came on. I guess she was no longer hiding it anymore. But for all I know, she's certain of her place with me."You were busy?"More of a query than a question."Just returned from the market. Arranging stuff. Didn't mean to ignore the call."I nodded as though she was with me. I headed towards the short stairs that led to the door of the building before me,"Lara, I'm in a tight corner. And I don't know what to do. But s
Oxford. Ninny's Duplex. ~Ninny~ "How's it going?" Haya called at me from the opposite couch. She wasn't reading from her Danielle Steele's today. She was leaning on the support of the couch, looking from her phone to me. My Laptop on the device that holds up PC's. I'd been told that putting a laptop on the bare lap could result to several conditions. If twas all about me, I could knock it off. I love taking chances. But for the sake of Ninny's mom, Samantha, she'd be as scared and worried as hell. My mom was an entire case on her own. A protective freak maybe. "Just the last chapter and bibliography left." I strayed off the thoughts. She came on, "The referencing stuff took me out during my own project." I nodded softly, "It could be very tiresome. I'm fancying the option of paying someone to do the referencing for me. I can't sit all day making sure I follow s
Samantha's Hood. ~Dare Ofegu~ "What in the hell..." I sat up immediately in bed. I had delayed waking up today, though it's a day of work, solely because I wanted to abuse the use of power vested on me by Samantha. She'd told me to come to work whenever I wanted, that I ain't like the rest who should report to work daily to make ends meet. But of course, my portion of work for the day must be well carried out even from home. She made sure to entrench that. "No way." I exclaimed, staring at my phone unbelievably. My jaws dropping. It isn't actually because of the text I'd just received, it's about it's content. I pushed down a lump, holding the phone consciously as though it's an egg that could splatter immediately it dropped. Twas a message from Ninny. And it read, HEY, HANDSOME. HOW ARE YOU DOING TODAY? "Maybe she wanted to send it to someone else." I de
Samantha's Hood. ~Dare Ofegu~ "Dare!!!" There came a loud banging on my door. I was forced out of sleep and out of bed. The banging came again. Twas rather strange. All the doors in the house were not made of wood, nor corrugated iron. "Dare!!" The yell became louder. I could tell what effort whoever was there was putting to it. I hurried towards the door and halted at the front, "Who's there?" Was that even necessary? I knew whose voice that was. I'm sure I did. I opened the door, but I was pushed out of the way. As soon as I gained my stance, I turned to the person, having no luxury of time to close the door. "See what you did now? See what you've done." Her eyes red as those words dropped from her lips. She was pointing at her protruding belly. She was pregnant. I was going to run mad, by heaven. Does someone gets pregnant over night? Not only pregnant, but
Evening. ~Dare Ofegu~ "I thought you said she would come home today." There was no point holding back the argument any longer. She looked up from her tablet. Though it's reasonable and acceptable that we both have been waiting for the arrival of Ninny since morning. For her sake, we'd even shut out the urge of going steamy to the core. And because of that, Samantha had been nursing an infant grudge. It's been over a week after the nasty and disturbing dream. And today is the birthday of Ninny. Though I knew I should had discussed the dream with Lara to further support my point of the wierd feelings I've been having lately. But even when I put a call through to her, few days ago, she'd screened it. She'd probably thought I wanted to talk her into taking money again. "Sam?" I called. She was quick to spare an ogle, "We are all waiting!" She concentrated on the tablet again. I squeeze
Same.~Dare Ofegu~"Not you ma, I love your daughter."All I could say at this moment is that, I opened my mouth and words of their own accord had dribbled their way out. That was the message I intended to put across but that wasn't actually the way I wanted to do it. But I know too well that, I can do everything but take back the words. As Samantha raised her head from the tablet. Her face was calm, still washed by the glee from the party. I didn't ask her what she was doing alone in her room when a party was going on in the sitting room. All I could think of was heaving my heart off this suicidal burden."How's it going Dare? Spoken with Ninny yet? If she hasn't come to you, maybe go to her. I already told her that you were the brain behind the party. She might want to say a word or two to show her gratitude."She looked away from me again to the tablet. She was seated on a swan chair, the tabl
Unknown.~Dare Ofegu~"Where are you now?"There was concern in her voice. But I don't really see the point, even though I had little a choice, the cold chill of the night crashing against my bare skin wouldn't me. Might I remind you, I was in a short, and in the middle of nowhere. Precisely, still walking up the gloomy tarred road dedicated to Samantha's Hood. Twould take another few minutes to get to the main express road. But thank goodness, Anny called."Just walking. Haven't gotten to the express road yet?""Do you have a place to go?"I could hear some voices in the background. I take it that she's still in Samantha's sitting room."Not really. But I could hang around a bar or stuff or go to a night club. Wherever that'd keep me up till the morning.""Don't be silly. Give me three minutes. I'll be there. Just stand somewhere."She didn't give me a chance to argue. She'd hung t
Anny's Quarters. The Next Morning.~Dare Ofegu~"Oh... Lord."I turned in bed. That would be the ten thousandth time I had done that through the night. And twas morning already. Do not ask me, I didn't have a goodnight rest. I think I did have a couple thirty minutes sleep, but the rest, turning and rolling in bed.It got to a point at 2:43AM, I'd climbed down the stairs to the living room. I tried watching a TV series but I got bored. My mind wasn't there. I couldn't concentrate. Yet, I couldn't sort my thoughts. I wasn't sure what I wanted to arrive at.As blank as my mind, was as clouded. Many things to think about, nothing falling through.I snapped my finger as Anny had told me, after showing me to this bedroom. The light came on. I checked the time on my wrist watch. I didn't even take a night bath let alone change into the night gown. I found no need."6:54AM."Pretty early, I
