010

After the end of classes, Theodore again secretly brought a book about dreams. He went into the bathroom so that no one else could see him. Even Theo didn’t tell Jared this. He opened the first sheet.

When the universe was first created, they were nothing but formed from tiny particles called atoms. The particles are so small that the ordinary eye cannot see them. But they are there. Those little things will never die from the beginning of created life until the apocalypse. It also affects humans. Atomic particles form man from the outer shell to the innermost nuclei of the brain. Each atom has a solid attachment to each other. The atoms in the innermost core of the head often help humans solve problems. Something called Instinct. The atoms that live in our heads are amplified by the energy emanating from meteors that fell thousands of years ago. Atoms often try to help us solve problems that we are unaware of. It can be through a dream or an event called Deja Vu.

“Does this make sense?” Theo muttered, “Does it make sense for me to discover the dream?”

Theo finds out that he was left in front of the orphanage with a letter from his parents. Without a name or photo, as if they wanted to be forgotten by Theo. Or are they the ones who want to forget Theo?

“You’re still busy with that dream, dude?!”

“Jared!”

Theo was surprised and almost dropped the book in his hands. He hides a dream book in his uniform. After tidying up, Theo opens the door and finds Jared looking at him.

“You can use this toilet. I’m done.”

"You’re not even wearing it, “Jared smirked, “I don’t hear a flush.”

Well done, Theodore.

“Alright, I admit defeat.” Jared laughed and even grabbed his sick stomach from laughing while Theodore became curious to realize that Jared was playing with him. Theodore issued a book about dreams. “I don’t need to hide this book because this is indeed mine, right? The school lent this book to us, to the students.”

“You found out too late.”

“Fuck You, Jared!” Theodore hit Jared on the head with a book. Which made Jared shriek in surprise.

“Hey! We can’t hurt each other!”

Theodore ignored Jared’s words and abandoned the boy until Jared caught up with him while running.

“Well, I’m sorry for constantly working on you.”

Theodore was silent.

“Come on, I’ve humbled myself very low.”

“Then do it.”

“What?”

“Bend your body.”

Jared defended. Maybe feel inadequate and undervalued. He wanted to protest before Theodore preceded him.

“You don’t have to do it if you don’t want to.”

“Hey! Okay, I’ll do it!”

Jared grumbled faintly and bent ninety degrees before Theodore – suddenly, Theodore embraced him tightly. Theodore wrapped his arm around Jared’s neck like a python gripping its prey. Jared is the victim. With a more petite body, Jared tried to escape Theodore’s burly arms. Jared tried so hard only to find his abilities were duckling-like compared to Theodore’s. After seeing that his opponent was weak, Theodore let go of Jared while laughing.

“What’s funny?” Jared grimaced as he rubbed his neck. “What the hell is your energy? Are you a thug or what? You’d rather use your Odd Eye to punish me than use your powers.”

Theodore slowly stopped laughing. His face became very sad as if it were cloudy on a snowy day.

“I don’t want to use that power. That... That could hurt someone.”

"I don't deny,” Jared commented.

“No, that power can be perilous...” Theodore stammered and then started screaming. “I swear I will never use it again!”

“Alright, alright, you don’t have to do it again. The school forbids students from attacking each other’s thoughts without the supervisor’s permission.”

“Jared, I’m sorry I hurt you.”

“Not so, “Jared shook his head, "Quite the opposite. I’m so amazed at your abilities! Can you teach me how to build those muscles?” Jared pointed at Theodore’s arm.

Theodore looked at his arm and grimaced. He gained all that power from surviving in the outside world. After a tragedy that left as deep a mark as the wound on his neck, Theodore swore with his whole life that he would never use this power. He would never use it, no matter how much he was in danger. So, the only way to survive in a harsh world is to keep training to become stronger. Despite being a street fighter, Theodore could eat even though he earned very little money.

A little bit.

“Are you sure you want to get this?” Theodore raised his right arm.

“One hundred percent.”

“Okay, come with me.”

The two of them started running on the sides of the field, circling a vast field with Theodore in the lead and Jared gasping behind him. Jared looked pale, sweat melting on his forehead and body. There are better times to exercise. Students usually rest more often in their rooms or wherever they do not exercise because they have done it in the morning. Only freaks want to torture themselves with sports. Jared is one of them, and Theodore is too.

“You don’t have to push yourself,” Theodore said as he stopped, and Jared gasped.

“I have to do it!”

“At least rest a little. You can faint.”

Jared was silent for a moment. “All right, just a minute.” He then sat on one of the benches on the side of the field.

Theodore smiled. “I’ll get you a drink.”

Jared seemed to lose most of his energy as he only raised his arms to his chest in response. Theodore passed towards the cafeteria. Students cannot bring food out of the cafeteria or eat outside of mealtimes but can still drink. A refrigerator is provided with bottles of refreshing water. Theo took two bottles. When leaving the cafeteria, Theo accidentally saw Madam Liz with a man dressed in all black talking outside the cafeteria. Theo felt strange because he stopped stepping and instead hid from the two. He could hear some of their conversations.

“What happened after he came?”

“Nothing, Master.”

“Are you sure? As far as I know, people seem to be very dangerous. Most dangerous in the world. Are you sure you’ve got eyes on him?”

“I never took my eyes off him for a second.” Madam Liz looks very respectful of the strange man.

“Anyway, let’s see how it develops.” The man sighed. “You better not underestimate anyone.”

Theodore was stunned when the man glanced at him. Not directly because there is glass and several rows of benches separating them. But Theodore felt that if his hideout had been discovered, he would have been reluctant to leave before the two men left him alone. After ensuring the empty hallway, Theodore ran as fast as he could toward Jared, who had moved to sit under a tree.

“I felt weird sitting there alone, “Jared explained his reasoning as well as his anxiety,” leaving me very exposed.”

“Your drink.”

“Thank you.” Jared gulped half the contents of the bottle.

“What makes you feel uncomfortable? Aren’t everyone here, friends?”

“I know, but that doesn’t mean they like me. They don’t want to make a fuss by bothering me. Secretly, they were talking about me; they must have been talking about how hard it was for Jared to always depend on Madam Liz because he was her golden student.”

“Jared, What did you say?” Theodore looked at Jared in disbelief.

Jared was the first to reach out to him. Jared helped him overcome distrust in a person. It was Jared who showed him the bright side of the world. How did such a cheerful person suddenly become so gloomy? What happened to Jared?

“You won’t understand what I’m saying,” Jared smiled sadly. “I just want to get better. I wanted to prove that I was a good boy. But... But they chose you instead.”

Jared stood up, squeezed the drink bottle, and began to walk away.

“Thank you for the drink.”

Jared left without once looking at Theodore.

Theodore was speechless from confusion, but everything was fine so far. Jared even joked with him in class. Jared doesn’t show any resentment towards her at all. Then why did everything suddenly change?

Even Jared’s back looked so miserable that Theodore felt too guilty to catch him and apologize.

All this must be his fault because he is the Chosen One.

“Jared!” Theodore decided to go after Jared even though he had gotten an edge from Jared. Strangely, Jared apologized.

“I’m sorry. I have to go.”

“No, you have to tell me what your problem is.”

“I have nothing to say, man!”

Jared stepped back. His face was much more disappointed than before. There was anger on his face. Theodore continued to advance as Jared retreated. Someone tapped him on the shoulder, indicating that someone was a stranger.
