Chapter 7

"Scram."

"You have grown wings!" Jessica roared furiously, her face turning so red it looked like smoke was about to fume out of her ears.

This was the first time!

The first time Thomas—the weak ex-husband she always ordered around, who obeyed without complaint, even smiling while doing so—had ever spoken such cold, heartless words to her!

And the worst part? It was in public! Humiliating her!

Seeing Jessica hopping around like a child throwing a tantrum, Thomas scoffed and turned around to leave. But the moment she saw how he was ignoring her, Jessica felt like her chest was about to explode from the rage that had built up inside her.

"You useless waste! Stop! Don't you dare leave me standing! I should be the one walking away, not you!"

Hearing those words, Thomas smirked and stopped. Then, he slowly turned to look at Jessica—as if he were watching a child foolishly ordering an elder to jump to his death.

"What do you want?"

Taking a deep breath to calm herself, Jessica coldly said, "At Grandma's birthday party tomorrow, I will tell Grandma that I want to divorce you. From then on, we will no longer be together."

"Okay, so?"

"So... So... I hope you don't go rolling on the floor, begging for forgiveness, making a scene like a madman. And don’t worry, I will give you $2,000 to take care of yourself—lest you go jumping off a bridge from emotional damage."

Jessica almost choked on her own words at Thomas’s lackadaisical response.

She had expected him to tremble, for his expression to turn pale, for him to plead—but instead, he stood there completely unfazed, making her feel uneasy for the first time.

"You think too much." Thomas sneered in disdain.

Maybe, in Jessica’s deluded opinion, he would be the one jumping off a bridge.

But in his opinion? Jessica would be the one jumping—once she learned his true identity.

"Oh, please. We all know you're a waste. A waste down to the deepest part of your heart. Stop pretending like this doesn’t bother you."

Jessica shot him a disgusted glare, hating how he was pretending to be unfazed.

"Jessica, why are you bringing yourself down by exchanging words with this waste?" At this point, Rex, who had been impatiently waiting for Jessica, stepped forward arrogantly with his chin raised high. "Ignore him. He isn't even worthy of holding your shoes. Let's go to the fourth floor and pick a gift for Grandma."

Saying so, he proudly took out his Gold membership card from his pocket and flipped it before Thomas as if taunting him that he could never have such a card.

Seeing this, Thomas almost laughed out loud but held himself back, watching in amusement.

"I'm sorry for keeping you waiting, babe. Let's hurry up then. I can't stand looking at this waste for much longer," Jessica said as she hugged Rex's arm intimately.

Nodding proudly, Rex threw a look of disdain at Thomas and said, "Poverty-stricken man, there are a lot of cheap garbage items in the tourist area. You can pick any one of your choice there while I take your ex-wife to a more luxurious area. Don't worry, when I come back, I will pay the bills for you."

With that, they burst out laughing, holding each other as they climbed to the second floor.

"Childish." Thomas shook his head and smiled before following them, after all, there was only a single staircase leading to the upper floors.

---

"Waste! What are you doing behind us? Get the hell out of here!" Jessica yelled with anger on her face. Why wouldn't she, when she discovered Thomas was shamelessly following them?

"I didn't know this was your home," Thomas sneered with cold eyes.

"You...!" Jessica choked on her anger as she heard those words.

"Baby, don't waste your breath exchanging words with a shameless man like him. Let's keep going, and I'm sure at the third floor, he won't have the ability to follow us again, as only Silver members are allowed there," Rex said as he threw a disdainful look at Thomas before pulling Jessica away.

Reaching the entrance leading to the third floor, there was a card-swiping pad on the door that only allowed people with membership cards to pass through.

Reaching there, Rex took out his Gold membership card from his pocket and brushed it on the card slot.

However, just when Rex wanted to step in, he saw some security guards passing by and immediately halted before pointing at Thomas with arrogance, saying to them, "We don't know that man behind us! If he says he knows us and wants to fish in troubled waters, you can drive him out directly or even throw him out!"

"Okay, Mr. Xavier." The security guard nodded and looked at Thomas with slight hostility.

"Let's go now, baby. Unless he has a membership card, he won’t be able to follow us again." Rex smiled and hugged Jessica's willow waist before throwing a look at Thomas as the door slowly closed.

Thomas wanted to confront him?

Hmph! He was still a kid in the grand scheme of things.

Seeing that the two fake lovers had left, Thomas moved toward the door at a calm pace.

"Please, sir, swipe your card," the security guard said, watching Thomas intently. He didn’t want to be rude just because Rex asked him to—unless Thomas failed to produce a membership card.

Expressionless, Thomas calmly took out his Diamond Membership card from his pocket and swiped it on the card slot.

Diamond card?!

The security guard’s eyes widened, and his expression turned exaggerated as if he had just seen the great president of China in flesh and blood.

Immediately, his attitude took a 180-degree turn as his expression became one of flattery. "Sir, please forgive this lowly one for his rude attitude. You can go in now. If you need someone to guide you around, I will arrange it immediately."

Hearing those words, Thomas shook his head in disapproval and smiled. Right now, he suddenly understood—without money, a man will hardly be respected. Even among poor people, there are still ranks.

Stepping into the elevator that took him to the third floor, Thomas stumbled onto Rex and Jessica again.

Upon seeing Thomas, they both frowned, their expressions mixed with puzzlement and anger.

"Trash! Did you bribe the guard? Or does he know you from somewhere and let you in?"

Hearing her words, Thomas didn’t speak. It was beneath him to exchange words with a woman who had already broken up with him, cheated on him, and didn’t feel the slightest shame about it.

Seeing how Thomas was ignoring her, Jessica’s face turned red from the shame of being ignored by a poor man like him. She spun around and grabbed Rex's arm saying, "Let's head to the fourth floor! I don't believe he has the guts to follow us there where the security is tight!"

Since you're shameless as to not know the immersion between heaven and earth, dare follow us again and I will tell the guards to break both of your legs!" After saying those threaten words, Rex didn't wait for Thomas's reaction as he directly walked towards the door which lead to the fourth floor which was guided by three hefty security men and swipe his card, making the door open. "And you guards, don't you dare just let him walk in or else..." But just like last time, he didn't immediately step in and even threaten the guards if they allow him in to follow them then he will report them to their manager about the security incompetence. The guards nodded hastily. Thomas who was behind, witnessing all these couldn't help but smirk lightly as if enjoying the way Rex acts like a spoiled brat throwing tantrums. The moment Noel returned, his expression was darker than a condemned man’s last meal. Jessica and Rex’s lips curled into victorious sneers, as if they had already won the lottery of humiliation. “See?! I knew it! I freaking knew it!” Jessica practically vibrated in place like an overfilled kettle about to explode. “There’s no way this gutter rat could—” “Miss Jessica,” Noel’s voice was so cold it could freeze a volcanic eruption mid-blast. He turned toward her with the slow precision of a guillotine being raised. Jessica’s smugness faltered, only for Rex to step forward, puffing out his chest like a peacock on steroids. “What? You don’t have to be polite about it. Just announce that this bastard is a fraud so we can throw him out like the human waste he is.” The guards behind them straightened, fully prepared to launch Thomas through the nearest available window. Noel exhaled sharply through his nose. “My apologies for the delay,” he said, his tone as stiff as a tombstone. T

Noel led Thomas toward the elevator, his demeanor professional yet noticeably more respectful than before. As they ascended to the sixth floor, Noel clasped his hands behind his back and spoke with measured pride.“This floor houses some of the finest collectibles in the Pavilion,” he explained. “Even the lowest-tiered item here would cause a stir in the market or at high-profile auctions. The cheapest piece is valued at eight hundred thousand dollars.”Thomas listened, nodding absently.Eight hundred thousand. For just one item.He tilted his head slightly, watching as the elevator’s sleek metal doors slid open. Was it for fame? Did these people buy such things just because they could afford to? Or was it something deeper—an insatiable hunger for power disguised as luxury? Or to show off? Rich people were indeed hard to understand. Thomas thought, forgetting he was from the one of the richest family. As they stepped inside the hall, his gaze swept over the endless glass-encased artif

You can present it during the gifting hour and act normal. Your reputation isn’t great right now, Thomas. Everyone is waiting to mock you. You have to be strong if you want to pull through this. My sister will definitely be among those who will do everything in their power to ruin your image, but I'm sure after receiving Grandma's praises, they will see you in a new light." Hearing those words, Thomas felt touched. His heart warmed, even in such a dark family that took pleasure in mocking him, there was a girl who cared about him to no end. She was like a light in the darkness, a flower that had no place in such a toxic environment—too precious for a family like this. As she was about to hand over the gift, Thomas's gaze drifted to her wrist and noticed that it was bare. His brows furrowed. "Vero, where's your wrist bangle? Don't tell me yo

While everyone was jealous of Jessica and Rex, who were called into the hall, Thomas, who had finally arrived, calmly walked past most of the people, ignoring the piercing gazes and whispers behind him as he approached the door servant who announced the gifts brought for the birthday party and their owners.Calmly, he presented his gift and its net worth to the door servant, who looked at it and frowned before looking back at Thomas. His expression moved from curiosity to disdain."Aren't you the live-in son-in-law? You? Bringing such a gift? Are you sure it's not a counterfeit? Grandma will obviously be pissed if she ever finds out you want to use a fake gift to scam her and win her favor. After all," he paused, his expression turning into one of ridicule before adding, "your reputation is as good as dog shit."Hearing his words, Thomas’s expression turned a bit colder.
