Based on my quick observation, Jelian and Julian's shoes were still as good as new. I still have perfect eyesight, so I could tell their shoes were ruined, dirtied, or soaked.
"Don't give us that kind of look, you ungrateful cleaners!" Jelian grasped the middle-aged woman's chin, clenching it harder as she moaned in pain. "Answer me! How are you going to compensate us, huh?" "I'm so sorry," says the middle-aged woman. "But I'm afraid we cannot afford to pay you a million dollars. Can we just clean them up and return it to you?" To my surprise, the two janitors dropped to their knees and shoved their faces to the tiled floor to extend their sincere apologies. The scenario took a trip down memory lane on the same day Jelian and Julian did the same thing for me. Jelian was about to slap the middle-aged woman but my conscience had had enough of them. I didn't get the chance to defend myself three years ago because I was just a mere houseboy to them, but I now have the courage to help those people in need. So I quickly interrupted the commotion and blocked his hand before his slap could land on the poor woman's face. "That's enough, Julian! They already apologized to you." I said, and it was pretty obvious that my voice was stuttering. Within those three long years of living with them in the mansion, today was the first time I mustered the courage to stop them from hurting anyone. "Look who's here?" Jelian blurted, her brows furrowed. "Who are you to hold your dirty hands in my hair, you daughter of a slave? Let go of me or else-" "Or else what, huh, Jelian? You are gonna slap me instead of them like you and your evil family always do? Or you are gonna report this to Celestine?" I growled back at her which also surprised Julian. He attempted to remove my grip but I already decided to end their reign once and for all. The janitors were about to do something but I growled at them to stay out of it. I pushed Julian away from me. Hard enough he stumbled to the floor. I intentionally pushed him away from me as it was the only way I could help the janitors up. Jelian was about to grab my hair when Celestine appeared out of the blue and stopped his sister from doing so. "Can someone explain what the hell is going on?" Her loud voice rumbled all over the hallway, scaring all the employees who witnessed the commotion as they were in a rush to evacuate the place. The two janitors burst into tears as they dropped to their knees again, and begged Jelian and Julian to forgive them. Even cleaned their shoes using their mouths to remove the stinks and specks of dirt. "Enough of that! Those bastards are not worth it! Get the hell out of those evils!?!" I yelled at the janitors as I lost control of my anger in disbelief. They barely listened to me so I pulled them away from Jelian and Julian. "I said what the hell is going on?" Zachary yelled again. "It's that bastard who started it, Sister Celestine!" Jelian pointed a finger at me. "We were just having fun with these janitors who dirtied our shoes, but your poor and ungrateful ex-wife interrupted us." "Perhaps that bastard is here to demand you some money." Julian seconded. "I mean, he had the right to have a share of your money because he was once your husband, right? He must be daydreaming about getting a penny from our family--" Julian did not get the chance to finish her sentence when Celestine slapped their faces one by one. Their overwhelming confidence three seconds ago turned into bursting tears. "Words, Jelian, Julian! This is a private place. My company. Have some decency for once in your lives." she gritted her teeth in rage. "Better get out of my sight before I'm gonna drag you both out of this building." "Excuse me?" Jelian, who was more rude compared to Julian, debated. "We are your brother and sister by blood, Celestine. And that man started it. Those janitors can prove that. Ask them yourself." I could not help but scoff in disbelief that she would use the janitors' situation to their advantage. Who could have thought Jelian became smarter these days? The janitors are scared of the Lincolns. Scared of getting fired, so I will not be shocked anymore if they take their sides instead of mine. So before they could make another mistake, I preceded them when I proposed, "If I was not mistaken, this entire building had planted advanced CCTV cameras. How about we'll watch the footage of what exactly happened earlier?" Celestine was smart enough not to notice her siblings' startled expressions after hearing my proposal. The rest is up to her to decide. I couldn't let those evils grow their horns longer for the rest of their lives. Someone must cut them off and teach them some lesson. "And I'm gonna step out of this building myself if proven all their claims about me are true. What do you think of the idea, Mr. Lincoln?" I added with conviction. "That's enough!" Celestine replied, then reassured the two janitors that their jobs were safe before she ordered them to get back to their respective stations. With their disappearance, the heavy tension that hung in the air dominated the hallways around us. Jelian and Julian were looking at me in the eye with contempt. And so was Celestine to them. She was supposed to shoo his sisters away like he said but imagine my surprise when she reached out to my hand and dragged me to the nearest elevator. She even ordered those who came before us to give us some privacy. Then she pressed the lock button as soon as the elevator was cleared out. "What are you doing?" I asked, starting to get worried. "I am here to continue our disrupted conversation the last time, Zachary. Did you marry the chairman of the Fisher Group?" she asked. "We just got divorced for like a week and you already married someone?" I could not stop my laughter from bursting after hearing the ridiculous question for the second time and seeing her worried expression. She already heard about me and her step-sister having a relationship yet she was adamant about her ridiculous claims. "You gotta be kidding me, Ms. Lincoln!" I replied despite having a hard time breathing. "You still don't know who I really am, do you?" then I stepped back and stood in front of her. "Well then, allow me to introduce myself to you for the last time." She frowned when I stretched out my hands toward her. "My name is Zachary Llana Fisher, the only son and heir of your rival corporation, Fisher Group and Companies. And I am here to withdraw every single cent of my investment from your dying company." The deafening silence dominated every corner of the room, but the balls of her eyes remained wide open. I cannot blame her for that. After all, losing the majority investor was like death to her corporation. My ex-wife never ceased to surprise me when she dropped to her knees. "This corporation is my life, Zachary," she said, her tears pouring. "Without it, I'll die. So, please, tell me what to do to keep your investment with us. Anything. I'll do anything in order to save my company." Her continuous tears left me speechless, causing me to lean my back against the wall behind me until my body froze as I sensed the desperation and sincerity of her voice. "If you want me to double your share dividends, then I'll do it," she insisted. "You want to have my office, then you can have it. Please, Zachary. For old-time's sake. For our son to have a better future. I'm begging you. If you want me to break up with Yllana, I'll give her a call. Anything. I'll do anything. Even if you are going to make me your slave." But money is no longer an issue for me. Doubling or tripling my share dividends doesn't matter to me. Concerning our son, it was already part of my plan to get custody of her as soon as possible because I am his dad. Her office? I don't need to have her office when I already have one in this building as the major shareholder. Last on her list was about Sebastian. I don't care about their relationship anymore. She and I are divorced already. And I have no plan of being entangled with her again. All I want is justice for everything she and her evil family did to me for the past three years. So I said, "I'll consider one of your options but I have two. One is to break up with Sebastian. Let him feel the unbearable pain I felt when you left and made me like a fool. Two, let your parents kneel before me, begging me not to withdraw my investment. Can you do that for me?" "Why can't you answer me, Zachary? Don't tell me I was right?" I gradually rolled my eyes toward her when I just realized my brain was simply building and imagining that conversation earlier, telling her the truth about my identity. "I know my Jennie more than anyone. You're too smart to have a relationship with her. So cut the crap about her. I'm not falling for it." "Why?" I curved the tip of my lips upward. Seeing her getting mad was an achievement for me. "Are you afraid that I might take over your company so soon as the majority shareholder? Or was it because you could not accept that I could marry your sister when you couldn't with Sebastian because you knew what he really was?" I can sense that a lot of things were bothering her while looking me in the eye. Even Jennie already answered her question the other day, so there is no point in explaining or telling her about it again. As soon as the door of the elevator switched open, I did not wait for her response. I separated ways with her and I went to my office where Jennie had been waiting for me. Dad already fired her but to make up for all the good things she did for me, I reached out to her before dawn and hired her to be my secretary. At first, I was supposed to withdraw my investment in the Lincolns but after what I witnessed from Julian and Jelian earlier, I changed my mind, and am willing to disobey my dad's order for the second time. "Good morning, Ms. Jennie. Did you sleep well last night...?" I did not get the chance to finish my sentence when it was not Jennie's face that greeted me but Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln's. Without asking further questions, the two dropped to their knees, their eyes swollen, and their necks full of sweat. Imagine my surprise when Mrs. Lincoln crawled toward me and reached out to my black leather shoes. "We're so sorry for everything we did to you, Mr. Fisher." Mrs. Lincoln uttered, her tears were about to crawl down her cheeks. "Please, give us another chance to correct our mistakes." "We regretted for allowing our daughter to divorce you, son." Mr. Lincoln seconded. "Please, get back to us and be part of our family again." Everything they said was a huge riddle to me to the point that my brain froze for a moment. I just had a wild imagination about them kneeling before me two minutes ago, but now, they're on their knees. And there's no way I was daydreaming. This one was real. So I looked deeper into their eyes, one by one, trying to understand what the heck is going on. I know the two are very hard to please. Wait. Do they know about me already? No. I highly doubt it. They could have hated me even more if they had known my true identity. After all, our families were mortal business enemies. There's no way they would be kneeling before me right now. Not that I hated the idea as it was what I certainly wanted to see but their actions were too suspicious. So I gradually lifted my feet toward my desk and dropped my butt on the chair. Then I dig deeper into my brain on what to do in this kind of situation. "You two shouldn't be doing this for me, Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln," I spoke up after considering things. "You should be begging Ms. Jennie Pineda, or should I call her, 'your illegitimate daughter' when she was the one who helped me acquire on buying the majority shares." "What?" Mr. Lincoln frowned the way I expected. "You heard me loud and clear, Mr. Lincoln. Your daughter Jennie was the one who invested the ten billion dollars. She simply let me have the position because we made a deal." who could have thought
And I plan to keep it that way. I don't want them to know a thing or two about what the hell is going on with my life right now, especially with the fact that I already returned to my parents and allied with them for good. They were too old enough and vulnerable. I know the two folks will not shut their mouths once they find something harmful and wrong to me. Needless to say, Grandmother hated the thought of me getting any kind of support from my parents. It's a long story, but my grandparents were also kicked out of the family because they opposed Dad's way of living and addressing problems and concerns, the same thing that happened to me. "Good evening, Mrs. Llamas." Jennie finally spoke up. "My name is Jennie Penida, and I am Zachary's secretary. If you are scared that something is going on between me and your grandson, please, don't bother. He's not even my type." "See, Grams? You heard her too, right? I'm not even her type, though I don't know why when I ha
A part of me wanted to laugh at the statement when I found it completely ridiculous, however, Grandmother's expression was too profound. Her eyes are sharp without any trace of bluff. "Anyway, you may now get back to your room," she added. "It's already late. We'll catch up tomorrow." then she left right after Grandfather clapped my shoulders. Grandmother's motherly piece of advice cut deeper into my conscience. No matter how hard I tried to understand the situation, I still found it too good to be true. I have no feelings for Jennie. Not a chance. We agreed to be a couple in front of the Lincolns and Stroems, but I am putting a boundary between us. She's my secretary. And I can proceed with my plan with or without her. While I was lost in thought, the phone next to my head suddenly rang. This time, it was no longer a message notification but a call. When I caught a glimpse of the phone screen, I frowned when the call came from John Dave. "Hey, it's me, John
It only took a matter of seconds for the members of the group chat to jot down their votes. Imagine my surprise when out of one hundred sixty members, seventy-five percent permitted me to join. Two people who disagreed to oust me from the reunion were Sebastian and Chester. And because they disagreed, the majority of the members joined them without asking further questions, making the count to seventy-five percent. "I think the answer was quite pretty obvious." Sebastian typed. "See you later, @ZacharyLlamas. You better show up because you had my vote and so did the majority, do you understand?" "Perhaps he should bring the woman, right?" one of the students suggested. "I mean, this is what the reunion is all about. For us to introduce our girlfriends, other halves, or even kids." "Just give him the benefit of the doubt, dude. But it would be better if he brought his sugar mommy to the reunion for us to check up on her." "What's wrong, Mr. Fisher?" Jennie bro
"Yes, you got the right man, Officer. That bastard's name is Zachary Llamas Fish..." Sebastian cut his word before he continued. "What? Is he a Fisher? Am I the only one who doesn't know he's a Fisher?" "Why? Do you know someone from the Fishers?" Celestine asked for additional information, putting me in a tough spot. I have no idea if Sebastian might know something about me or my family. But if he does, he could have confronted me since then. He could have gotten my good side either instead of humiliating me in front of everyone. "I know someone wealthy and powerful. Mr. Romulo Fisher, the CEO of Fisher Group and Companies. He's one of the major investors in my parents' companies." Sebastian replied as he frowned at me. "But I highly doubt this one in front of us belongs to that family." The thudding sounds of my heartbeats almost ripped off my chest, especially when he recognized my father very well. If he knows my father, then he also knows how powerful our fam
Before anything else, I ordered John Dave to stop the car for me to take over the driving. His daughter needed him more than I did so I decided to take over the steering wheel. Then I shifted the point of our direction. "It's mine. And that woman back there is my secretary," I started the confession. "There's more of the story than meets the eye, dude." John Dave frowned as he looked outside the window and noticed the road we were taking was no longer the way to his apartment. I can see that he got scared, especially when he had his daughter with him. "I'm going to tell you everything once we get there. But promise me first that you will keep my secret." I added. "Do you trust me?" "Seems like you left me with no other choice, dude. But promise me you won't do anything stupid about me and my daughter, would you?" I could not help but smirk upon hearing his stuttering voice. So I assured him, "Don't worry. I am not some kind doing human trafficking or somethin
"I'm a bit busy right now, Mrs. Lincoln. We already talked the other day. So I believed we have nothing to talk about anymore." Jennie replied, her voice sounding uncomfortable. Considering her relationship with them, Jennie remained professional as she addressed them formally. She was about to slide to the mouth of the door when Mrs. Lincoln stood in the middle, forbidding her daughter to get out of the office. "It's either you come with us peacefully or I'll make sure that ungrateful bastard gets humiliated in front of the employees," she said. "better take your pick, huh, Jennie?" Jennie turned half of her face in my direction, her eyes were worried as if she was seeking refuge from me. I don't know what they discussed the other day when Jennie never mentioned anything about it, so I nodded at her. "Good, because I hate not getting what I want." Mrs. Lincoln scoffed at me. Then she dragged Jennie to the meeting room along with Mr. Lincoln. For the first fi
In the middle of my journey to my parent's place, I kept reaching out to Jennie's phone when I could barely think of one reason to answer her sudden walk out. "Please, answer the call, Jennie. Even if you are simply my secretary, I'm still worried about you, you know? So, please, for once in your life, get your phone and pick up the call." Unfortunately, even after a few attempts of reaching out to her digits, my calls kept pushing through her mailbox. Until everything on my phone screen turned dark as I ran out of battery. I didn't want to think something bad could have happened to Jennie, so I focused on the matter at hand. She had her problems, I know, but I have mine too - meeting my parents. They just got back from their out-of-the-country business trip. Mom has been sending me messages non-stop, but I was too busy to give her at least one. Not showing my face to them was like asking for a death wish, especially when Dad and I still had unfinished business t
