Chapter 4

Jake woke up and the sparkling white ceiling was the first thing he saw. It was a beautiful Monday morning. He darted his eyes around the room in confusion, and just in time, the door went wide open.

A lady in her early 20s walked in. She was wearing a green robe.

“Oh my goodness! Mr. Jake, you're awake. I'm gonna call the doctor immediately," she announced happily, but Jake stopped her before she could move out.

“Hold on. Where am I? How did I get here?" He asked, and she furrowed her brow.

“You're in the hospital, sir. You don't remember anything? You were brought in half-dead. You've been in a coma ever since, but your wounds are healed.”

Jake raised his brow and cast a confusing gaze around the room.

"I remember that too well, but… hold on, how long have I been in a coma?" He asked with curiosity.

"3 months sir,” the nurse responded, and Jake jumped off the bed.

"What?" He exclaimed.

“I've been in a coma for 3 whole months? What the fuck! I need to get out of here right away," he stated, and the nurse nodded in agreement.

He quickly picked up a pair of clothes by his bedside and jumped into them. Suddenly, a thought struck him, and he realized that he hadn't handled the bill.

“How much is my hospital bill? Please I don't have any money. Clearly, I've been in a coma for the past 3 months. Even before I had the unfortunate accident, I was broke,” he announced, and the nurse chuckled.

"It's not funny!”

"I'm sorry sir, that's not what I meant. It's just that your bills have been taken care of by your Uncle,” she said, and Jake furrowed his brow.

“Uncle?" He asked curiously, and she nodded hastily.

“I don't understand. Which Uncle?" He asked confusedly. Before the nurse could explain further, a loud knock interrupted their conversation.

The door went open, and a man walked into the room. He was wearing a black tuxedo suit and a cowboy hat. The hat shielded his face, and Jake sat still, staring at him and wondering who it could be.

“My boy. I've always known you to be a fighter. I knew you would survive. I kept telling your father, but he never stopped panicking," the man said, and Jake stood up from the bed with surprise in his eyes.

“You know my father?” He asked with surprise and a look of distrust, and the man chuckled silently.

“Who else could it be if not me, uncle, Usman,” the man said and took off his hat.

Jake was silent for a moment. A sudden quiet smile spread across his face and he jumped up in surprise. “Uncle Usman!" He screamed with a heartwarming smile on his face.

Usman was his father's assistant. He and Jake were like a father and son back in the day.

Jake couldn't contain his happiness, and his laughter bubbled up like a wellspring of pure joy.

His grin was so wide it seemed to touch his ears, and his eyes crinkled at the corners with the sheer joy of the moment.

His happiness was infectious, and it spread like sunshine, warming the heart of the nurse who stood beside them.

“Let’s go home, son. The time has come for you to take your position and face your destiny,” Usman said, and Jake furrowed his brow confusedly.

“What? I wouldn't do that. Going home is the last thing I should consider."

“Why? Because you're afraid of those who want to destroy you? Your father is calling on you, Jake. It's time for you to assume your role as the One True Heir of Robinson Osborne.”

"Now know this, the decision you make today will shape your future. Will you face your responsibility, by putting the past behind you and focusing on the future? Your father is calling, Jake, only this time, he is calling to right his wrongs. Now will you answer his call or turn a blind eye?”

Jake stood dumbfounded, he couldn't believe it. Returning home was the last thing he ever imagined.

Jake was the son of Robinson Osborne, the richest man in Glazzaton. Many years ago, Robinson Osborne married 3 beautiful women to satisfy his extreme sexual desires.

He had everything he wanted and lacked nothing. One day, his 3rd wife, Rosalie gave birth to a baby girl, and Robinson Osborne went to the company with joy.

He met a beautiful lady, Kristina, who had come for a job interview at his company. Due to his excessive happiness that day, he offered her a job at his magnificent mansion.

As time went by, Kristina's beauty became something to consider. Robinson Osborne couldn't get his eyes away. One day, he followed his heart and took Kristina to bed.

An affair kicked off between the two until one fateful evening. Robinson Osborne was in his office when Kristina bumped into his office with a pregnancy test result that proved positive.

Robinson Osborne was angry. It was a stain on his prestige, so he commanded Kristina to get rid of the pregnancy. After a failed attempt to convince her, he gave up and accepted his fate.

Months later, the baby was born and Kristina named the child Jake. He was the illegitimate son of the billionaire, Robinson Osborne. All three wives of Robinson Osborne despised Jake and his mother.

The 3 wives finally succeeded in instigating Robinson Osborne to cast Kristina and her child away. Jake and his mother lived their lives without favor from Robinson Osborne.

19 years later, Jake returned home one night and received the shocking news of his mother's health condition. He rushed down to the hospital, and the doctor requested a deposit of $20,000 to begin treatment.

Jake didn't have the money, so he ran home to his father to ask for help. Unfortunately, when he got home, he was cast aside and shunned by his father.

Having failed to convince his father of the money, Jake rushed back to the hospital to find another option.

As he stepped into the hospital, he noticed the tense atmosphere. He rushed down to his mother's ward to chat with the doctor, and when he got there, Kristina was dead.

The only person in the world he had to call his true family was dead. He was heartbroken, and all his blame was on his father.

With Kristina gone, Jake has nothing left for him at home, so he packed his things and left home with no destination in mind.

After traveling around the country for 2 months, he settled in Burutan. A few weeks after his arrival, he met Georgina, his ex-wife, and so his journey began.

“So what do you say, son?" Usman inquired, and Jake let out a deep sigh.

Jake buried his face on the ground and after a deep thought, he sighed.

“I'm ready. Let's do it," he said, and Usman smiled and made a quick call.

In a few minutes, Jake was cleared from the hospital. As they walked along the hallway, all eyes were fixated on Jake and Usman with the three hefty bouncers behind them.

They approached the exit, and Jake paused with a gasp on his lips. He stood still, staring at the convoy of luxury vehicles waiting by the compound.

“Oh God! Here we are," he muttered to himself and kept walking.

As they approached the convoy, the security men by the cars bowed as Jake walked past them.

Jake was surprised, he had not been shown such a level of respect. At this point, he couldn't wait to look his father in the eyes and demand answers.

They got to a Mercedes Maybach at the very center of the convoy and hopped into the car.

In no time, the convoy set out of the compound, while people around stared in admiration, wondering if the president was present.
