Chapter 12: Regret
Water filled Xaviel's mouth. He can feel water dripped little by little onto his mouth in his near-death state. The flavor of the water, however, tastes somewhat sweet. Like it's not even water.
After a few minutes, Xaviel felt his strength was coming back. Slowly, but undoubtedly he tried to open his eyes and was very surprised to see the liquid filling his mouth was actually the tree's root sap. This, however, doesn't stop him from drinking the droplets dripping to his mouth. Instead, it made him deduct the situation.
(When I killed the rat, a green goo came out. Since the blood of the rat is still present. It couldn't be part of the blood.)
"Unless... It's actually a venom or virus of some sort,"
Before speculating further in his immobilized state, he remembered what his soon-to-be vet doctor friend told him about venoms.
'A venom is basically a poisonous substance. In terms of technicalities, it is usually found near the teeth of snakes at the salivary gland….'
Xaviel then recalled asking more to his friend about a cure for such venom, to which his friend replied by telling him,
'Antivenom is one of the medical ways to cure venom. To produce it, however, is quite hard. Old scientists used to extract dosage of unharmful venom from snakes and administer it to living animals. They would develop antibodies from the venom itself by the time, but usually, it had certain risks and consequences.'
After remembering what his friend told him, Xaviel tried to link his experience with the venom and antivenom principle. At that moment, Xaviel suddenly rose from his sprawling position. He is now sitting on the room's floor with a hand on his chin.
"It doesn't make sense. I didn't even feel any side effects whatsoever. So does the tree sap cure me like an antivenom did, or was that just plain luck?"
As he thinks back on what he had experienced, Xaviel directly refuses to believe he was saved by the sheer of good karma.
"Yea, I do not believe that. It's must be something else," He then remembers another explanation from his friend in the medical department, this time, he studies virology.
'Virus is kind of an undead devil. They infect anything, whether a plant, human, animal, and even micro-organisms. When a virus per se infected you. These undead emperors temporarily take over your body to do whatever they desire. In this sense, it creates loads of copies of themselves to make you even sicker. Like parasites. Undead Devil Parasyte Emperors.'
Xaviel then thought that he may ask the wrong medical department guy. He could've chosen a not so gameboard attentive person for the explanation. Nevertheless, he recalls back to his friend's explanation regarding the cure.
'Curing Virus is messy but not quite hard assuming there's already a cure. Just take one of them Antiviral drugs. It would help stop the virus from mass-producing inside your body. Or better limit the chance it would infect your body in the first place by getting shot with a vaccine. But you know the drill every cure has its risks, as they say. Unlike Skyrim, where you can cure disease with one potion.'
Again, Xaviel thinks maybe it's better to ask friends who were not avid gamers and actually into medical stuff without the influence of games in his explanation.
"It just doesn't… Make Sense!"
Xaviel freaked out as he became bewildered, trying to solve the mystery of his himself feeling better after nearly experiencing death. With both hands scratching his head as he stands up in the room.
Energy had come back to his body, but questions filled his mind. Whatever happened to him must have something to do with the tree sap. Weirdly enough, he isn't thinking about the idea of almost dying very seriously. As if this was merely something not so significant.
"This sap must be a cure by some principle in this world that I don't know about. I might also stack a vial full of this," Xaviel said while filling vials upon vials of tree sap from the root th
"You know, It's funny if this turns out exactly like Skyrim. Where you get a potion to cure all disease," Xaviel blurted out. "Wait... That's worth a try!" He continued rushing from the south to the north room through the already broken door straight to the Giant rat corpse.
(If I am not wrong, which means I am correct, I got infected or damaged by the goo while stabbing through the chin area.) He thought.
As he carefully dissects the skin to reveal the creature's bones, a green goo slowly drips from someplace near the bone.
"Is this what the creature's venom storage?" Xaviel asked himself, then slowly extracting the liquid with his knife. Like before, the goo was green and now dripping to his fingertips.
Xaviel didn't feel anything, though. Unlike the first time, he felt it. He speculated that this must be because previously, he touched more goo. He swiftly took more goo and purposely splattered it around his left arm around the same volume as before. To his surprise, the dizzy feeling still hasn't come to him.
However, this experiment had revealed results regarding the tree sap. "An antivenom is produced by injecting venom to animals and harvesting their antibodies. A vaccine is produced by injecting the virus so that the body in time would create a cell memory to evade and kill the virus before letting it take control," Xaviel monologues.
"What do they have in common?"
Antibodies. Every antivenom and vaccine relies on building antibodies either for a specific venom or virus. It turns out that the tree sap wasn't exactly either of those two types of cure. Instead, the tree sap operates more like a substance that could effectively speed up the process of antibodies. This must mean it speeds up any 'curing mechanisms' on a cellular process. That explains why the sap was used in the old days as all-purpose medicine. Because it provides enhanced the speed of any cure.
With this tree sap, Xaviel deducted that his resistance to such toxic is heightened due to his newly formed antibodies. One thing he's not sure about is whether this stays permanent or does it only affect him temporarily.
"Only one way to find out then," Xaviel put down the vials he stacked up inside his satchel and removed toxic from his dagger by a slight jiggle.
"This is very absurd to think some kind of substance exists in this world. As the wise man said, ' Absurdity is the ecstasy of intellectualism' -Criss Jami" Xaviel rushed towards the direction of the north tunnel, hoping to fight another creature of the same species.

"By order of Victoria Mylen, Quilla, you have the right to remain silent and come with us!" A tall and well-built man wearing the village guar attire said to a neatly dressed green-haired woman.
Quilla, Hoff's wife, is currently being arrested at her household. Because of the sudden entry from the guards, she took up Mika and carried her in Quilla's arms. Hoping to keep her safe.
"There’s must be some mistake. My husband is the court advisor of Mylen!” Quilla said to the captain guard.
“There’s no mistake! Your husband had committed treason against the Mylen family. Therefore all bloodlines must be punished!” The guard said.
Quilla then instinctively thought about Maru. She doesn’t know where he is, but she hopes he will be safe. She then took a deep breath and said to the guard, “I’ll comply, but please let me carry my daughter,” pleaded Quilla.
The captain, however, turns to a smile. His eyes were glowing red inhumanly as he said, “Your daughter is a bigger crime than you are. We have evidence of her going inside and out of the forbidden forest.”
Hearing that, Quilla went into a shock. She’s trembling in great fear at the words of the captain guard. “The price for going to the forbidden woods is DEATH!” The captain guard then laughs maniacally at Quilla. Making her drop down, now on her feet.
Mika, previously carried by Quilla, now stands beside her mother. “Mom... Mom… Mom, okay?” Mika said with a scared tone as she patted Quilla’s arm. Suddenly Quilla’s arm wrapped around Mika’s body, the warmth of the hug slowly calms Mika down.
“Mika likes huggies,” Mika said while giggling a little.
Quilla whispered to Mika and looked back to the guards shouting, “RUN!”.
“ManaSupta.” Light blue bubbles started appearing near Quilla as she spread her hands. The bubble then started to hit everyone in the room except Mika. Instantly all the guards inside the house started to fall down, making way for Mika to escape. With tears in her eyes, Mika yelled, “I love you, Momma!” as she continued sobbing, getting out from the backyard door.
Clap Clap Clap
“Well done, Quilla Venica Crestia, former aristocrat,” said the captain.
“wHAT? How are you??”
“Not affected? It would be wise to properly analyze the situation now, wouldn’t we? Quilla?” As the captain speaks more and more, Quilla notices the absence of honorifics by the way the guard calls her.
“You.. who are you?” Quilla started to back away from the figure.
“Nyaw.. did Quilla forget her old friend?” The captain said, casually walking up to her, closing in the distance.
She started to summon the bubbles around her and direct it at the captain, although it seemed useless. As the captain is unfazed even by the bubbles reaching his eyes.
“I know your Forte revolves around the minds of others. All aristocrats have Forte with that kind of abilities, aren’t we?”
“Do you mean… You’re…”
“I’m surprised you're so slow on catching on! Your husband realizes it quicker than you. And to break it to you, I actually don’t have any rights by whatsoever to detain you,”
Quilla stayed silent, gritting her teeth.
“I purposely said the death sentence business just to make you retaliate. Now, you have assaulted all the guards and me here,”
“How dare you! You gave out false proof. You’re the one to blame here! As everyone else in this room was the witness!” Quilla said in anger.
“How about we ask them then?”
Suddenly one of the guards slowly rose and panted. He then pointed towards Quilla, saying, “She assaulted us!”. Another one then roses and again does the same, rising up and pointing towards Quilla, blaming her for assault.
“Quilla assaulted us!”
“She used forte to put us down!!”“She used violence!!”Soon all the guards inside the house were pointing and repeatedly blaming her, while their eyes glow red uniformly. “Now, how will you defend yourself? I would very much like to see you try!” The captain said gleefully.
Giant Rat (?) A mutated species of rat gigantic in size with scales coming out its spine. It creates a green goo substance inflicting dizzy feelings and immobilization. Green goo antibodies could be produced by consuming tree sap. Summary by Xaviel.
Rushing towards the tunnel, Xaviel encountered another Giant Rat. Like before, the rat hiss towards him aggressively. Xaviel then holds out his knife, still running aiming to stab its head. The rat's movement is relatively similar to the one Xaviel had killed before. They hiss and body slam. SHRUST! Xaviel, who had anticipated this, successfully thrust his knife to its brain, this time thrusting from the upper head skull to the brain, avoiding the toxic near its chin. The creature struggles a little, and after a few seconds, it stops moving. “A clean kill..” Xaviel said as he took out the knife swiftly. As he walked through the corridors and found more rats to fight, Xaviel became more aware of his ability. He now can adequately use his power to damage certain body parts or organs by his own choice. The feeling of hunger then came, pausing his intent of killing other rats. Upon reaching the cellar room from the knob-less northern door, he
Xaviel threw his phone to the wall in anger. As his phone cracked and seemingly unusable, he lost balance and sat on his bed. Tears fell droplets at a time from his cheeks. His teeth gritted, and his fist clenched. DING-DONG Xaviel's doorbell suddenly rang. He rose from the bed while wiping the tears from his eyes though not discarding the red tint on his eyes, and opened the door where a man wearing a red uniform said to him. “Package for Xaviel A. Mobius?” "That’s me.” “Great. Sign here, please.” The man handed a pen, and Xaviel wrote down his signature on the papers presented to him. “Who’s it from?” “Umm. Robert E. Mobius.” The man said as he read the packaging label. Xaviel went to a shock. That name. It can’t be. What trial will he be facing this time? As soon as the man hands Xaviel the package, he slams the door closed and locks it. He desperately searched for a cutter in his bedroom and began to
“If this was a minor hacking device, I wouldn’t have given you a new phone. It’s a much more major problem than that,” Robert replied.“What is it then?”DUR DUR DUR DURSuddenly the door to Xaviel’s house was constantly slammed.“Espionage.”[1]The situation at hand made Xaviel quite nervous. Someone really does seem to be spying on him. This made him doubt every person he met before moving to this neighborhood. He began to breathe heavily out of sheer pressure.Realizing that overthinking the situation was quite useless. He took short interval breathing, calming himself down against the situation. Composure is really the only way he could get through this.“Everything would be fine. As long as I keep calm and decide carefully,” Xaviel plays with his hair. After a few seconds, he opened the front door to see that there was no longer someone there. What was left was a pin
As Xaviel wakes up in another world, he finds himself in quite different scenery. Scouring the area for quite a while made him realize that he was not where he was the day before. The room is much smaller and looks rather unkempt than how neat Hoff’s basement is. As a result, he felt uneasy about this kind of progression. Chains are applied to his hand, but he quickly made them intangible and freed himself with his powers. He followed his instinct from the room, leading him to a vast hall about more than 5 meters high. As he kept walking on, he finally found a light source in which he found a figure with greyed curly textured hair writing onto something. He retracts his step and hides in a nearby wall inspecting the figure.Around the figure, he could see dozens of Giant Rats surrounding him as if he was the one controlling all of them. Their eyes glowing red, just like the ones he fought before.NGIK NGIK NGIKThe rats suddenly screech.
(God... Things indeed got the worse turn for me.)Xaviel had lost his concentration because of slight vertigo. It made his effort to nullify crushing motion in vain. Thus, the Beast began to put pressure on his fingers, which cracked his entire body. But...CRSHT!!A certain amount of blood scorched.ZEOAARGH!!The beast cries in pain as its head wiggles around.Xaviel had managed to slip by the Beast’s grasp. He is now sitting on the ground, panting while his right arm holds his left shoulder.“Huff...Huf...Huff...Got you... Bitch..” said Xaviel while pointing at the Beast with his left hand.“What..?? How? What had happened??” Krey shouted in confusion.“It’s simple.. actually. I could explain it thoroughly until you understand what I just did... But what do you think?”“What do I.. Think?”“Would you think I would explain it through an
Chapter 18: Alter Bridge (3)EEEEEEEUUUUUUUU!!!EEEEEUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!"This is..." Krey said in a shock, whilst a drip of sweat ran through his head."Krey, get Mr Woodland to the safe zone !" Said a man in his twenties."All right," said Krey with a shaking voice. As he walks a few steps, he stops and turns to face the man again. "What about you, Hero?". As he turned, the man was nowhere to be found."Please be safe, Hero. Mr Woodland, let's go to the safe zone!""Yes. Krey-boy.."Krey and Woodland walk together while trying to be as fast as possible toward their safe zone destination. They both walk through the Priscote town that is in chaos. People from all directions were running frantically. Many were screaming hysterically."I DON'T WANT TO DIE!!!""HELPP US!! KING KYMA !!! HELP US!!"Finally, after walking for quite a while, Krey and Woodland reached the safe zone. The safe zone is an area that is around 1 hectare. The main feature of this area is that every side of the zone is
The Beast's hand sweeps, causing some of the ground's floor to erupt in pebbles as it hits Xaviel. Some of his bones cracked while his body was sent flying more than 5 meters away from The Beast. "Arghh…"Xaviel's left rib bone was caught in The Beast's blow. It cracked and caused him much pain to stay focused on the fight. Xaviel then crashed onto the ground, landing on his right arm, slightly injuring it. BA-DUMP!!BA-DUMP!!! (What's this?) Xaviel rose from his prone position to sit down with one leg holding the weight. (What is this heartbeat?) He reached for his chest and caressed it. (Am I…Afraid?) At that time, Xaviel questioned himself: Was there something that scared him to fight Krey? Was it because of the sudden attack by The Beast? A situation that nearly killed him finally made him afraid. (No… I am not afraid in the slightest…) Xaviel grabs the pebble on the ground created due to the Beast's sweep. (If there's no fucking brain, I'll destroy its lungs!!) “GRAAA
"Serena, I can't fight him alone. His backup, that big animal over there, is really a nuisance!" "Figures...you did quite well surviving this long. I suppose you're Forte is quite powerful," "In this type of combat, I think it's far too useless if my aim is to win. That's why I need your help," "Sure. But first, tell me your power," That sentence made Xaviel somehow uneasy. He remembered that Hoff said revealing that you have a Forte or even saying how the power works out loud. It would be a dangerous feat. Now, however, Serena was asking that question. Contemplating on trust, Xaviel thinks back to events he had faced. He remembered that day. That fateful day where everything changed. The day he tempers with the Odin's Crow. He questioned himself. Why did he deploy them by himself? Why didn't he call one of the stage members to tell them? Or maybe record the warning message as proof. Yet the only thing he did was pursue his OWN dreams fulfilling his OWN need for self accomplishmen
The Fisherman and I follow Jack Nelson as the party ends instead of using a horse carriage or chariot like the other guests. They used a rather peculiar cart that used petrol and ran on wheels. I am familiar with that kind of cart. It's called a 'car' rather than a cart. People in Estovania used it quite a lot, yet they didn't first develop it. Most state-of-the-art stuff originated in Willhelmia or the 'Prince' region."That cart is very fast; how are we supposed to follow it?" I said."WOA-!" Fish shouted a little before I instinctively shut his mouth with my hands. "Shut the hell up, dumbass. We'll get caught!" I whispered as I slightly tightened my grip on his mouth. He reacted by nodding up and down. Only then did I release his mouth from my grasp."But why are you here, Vice-Boss Duke Hebsly?" He blatantly said."Don't say my name so casually. Dammit! And What else do you think I am here for? I am here to help you spy on Jack Nelson!" I replied."But the boss didn't say a thing a
“Excuse me sirs and madam. I am here to serve wine.” A male servant went inside the table where the conspirators of Seraphinania is sitting. He placed the glass one by one, as another servant poured it down.“A perfect time for a drink isn’t it?” Oswald Leysom said enticing everyone to touch their respective glasses.“There might be some rough sides to this plan of ours. Yet, with all the people here, I am pretty sure we can pull it through quite nicely.” Ms. Eye said with confidence before glancing at Mr. Jones. “By the by, is Jones here the one who used to sell opium to the Molosno family?”Mr. Jones looks around as the attention turns towards him. “Yes. As a matter of fact, I am. Yet ever since one year ago, the distributor position for my opium is vacant.”“I see.” Ms. Eye drinks her wine before speaking again, “Then you indeed are Thomas Hebsly.”“Wonderful guess, Madam. How could you ever guess who he was?” Oswald said, making everyone else except Mr. Jones giggle. “I see. Then
I walked with The Fisherman, Duke, and Gilman, who were now dressed as servants. They do look the part, but maybe Fisherman’s scar on his face gave it away that he wasn’t a servant.“Hey, you put this on,” I said giving him a bandage and instructing him to put it on his left cheek.“Will do, Boss-man!” Fisherman said.“Hey, it's hard to say 'Fisherman' all the time! Don’t you have a name we can call you by?” Gilman said.“Hmm, sure I have,” Fisherman smiled. He opened his mouth and said, “People usually call me Fish.”Duke flattened his eye annoyed by Fish’s and Gilman’s banter.“You know what, whatever. Fish is good enough.” Gilman said. “Oh yeah, everyone can call me Gil.”“Guys, I don’t want to break your spirits here. But you shouldn’t use your real name. We’re here to spy on people- You know what? I shouldn’t even be explaining all this to you two! Boss what the hell is wrong with these two!” Duke suddenly got heated up due to the stupidity of the other two people in our group.I
Jack Nelson, Mr. Jones, Oswald Leysom, Diana Mitchford. These four people are the key players in this grand design.A person of power in the shadows in Hestiania. The fearsome leader of the mafias in that region, Jack Nelson. He is also the sponsor and promoter of Sophaya. The other, Mr. Jones, was a man who originated from Estovania and later formed his own Mafia family here in Heliconia. He is my boss and mentor.Oswald Leysom, A politician from Estovania, is known for his poetry and political views that are down-to-earth and helpful to the citizens of Hestiania. Finally, the owner of the party, soon to be Oswald's wife, Ms. Diana Mitchford. A noble originating from Seraphinania that is known to have quite far-right political views.Together, they represent 4 great powers: Hestiania, Heliconia, Estovania, and Seraphinania. Though maybe not the power that is open in the light but the one lurking in the shadows. Documents have been provided by Mr. Jones himself indicating that they ar
A few days after the situation at the safe house, rumors of Sophaya, The Screaming Cinderella’s kidnap, began to surface. No doubt, this led to many people assuming Razor Peaks was the conspirator. Even though no one has asked us directly yet, I hear words regarding the situation, particularly through the words of the woman who wore the uniform.“Thanks for the drink,” I said while sitting in the chair inside the inn I stayed at.“Thank you for the drink, Missy!” Gilman said towards the woman in uniform.Yet, she can’t help but make a scrawny face. Unfortunately for Gilman, she remembered his face, which was the man who extorted her inn for money for quite some time. I drank my morning coffee, which alleviated my drowsiness. “Boss, it’s been quite a few days. Should we start the relocation again?”As per my planning, it is imperative for Sophaya to be relocated every three days due to many parties involved who wanted to kidnap her for ransom money. Of course, I can’t take her to the i
It’s been exactly one year since his arrival at Heliconia and his conditioning. 3 months of re-education and 9 months of training. Even from the first time I saw him, Shankara had shown potential, particularly in Forte, abling to rival wielders of the aristocrat. I believe he has now been honed into the perfect soldier for Razor Peaks. There is no doubt in his abilities and loyalty to some extent. So, today’s test will measure whether he will continue to develop or stagnate.“Sir, a call from Jack Nelson,”Now, the main event is about to start too.***Arriving at the scene, I looked at the safehouse, which no doubt had been bombarded, and noticeable damage had been sustained on the building.“Gilman, stay on the lookout when you have the chance to enter the building and proceed with our plan,” I ordered him, to which he nodded. As I began to walk towards the building, someone emerged from the front door. “I suppose you have arrived already, Mr. Shankara.” A woman greeted me. She was
As soon as I went to check on Sophaya, I only found her bodyguards bodies severely injured. Someone had already destroyed and ransacked the V.I.P. room. No, I am pretty sure at least 5 people were inside. As they finished their kidnap and ransacked the room, they escaped through the intended backdoor, I had previously ordered Sophaya to go.“Sorry sir, It’s all…” Duke said.“It was my decision. It’s my mistake.”Although we lost Sophaya, we found out the motive behind the kidnapping from the members of the Billy Pickers we caught earlier. The remaining lackey blurted out all the details that he knew. From the looks of it, I don’t think he could lie anymore, but I can never be too careful.I grabbed the telephone from the bar counter and dialled Mr Jones.“Mr. Jones, emergency meeting.”***“Who talked?” That was Mr. Jones's reaction.I didn’t respond. He put out his cigarette and sighed before standing up. Me and I were now inside Mr. Jones's office. It was quite a big room; his desk
“Mr. Ankara, what a pleasant surprise. I thought you wouldn’t be coming to the test concert,” Sophaya said to me with a warm smile, though the fakeness of that smile oozed an aura of anger.“Sorry, I was on a date,” I spoke back.“Ah, I didn’t know you were spoken for.” She complimented me with a witty gesture. The perfect solution to this matter actually would be to interrogate her right this instant. But, I wonder if that would play well to her since she obviously suspected something had happened.“I believe we had something to discuss about Mr. Ankara. Perhaps shall we discuss it now?”Understanding her cue, I followed up with an invitation: “Shall we go to my private room?” I said, offering my hand. But to my surprise, she walked past me with a slightly disgusted look and said, “Please show the way, Mr. Ankara.”Unlike her body double it seems she has a higher touch barrier.Indeed, her mannerisms are different than how they used to be.Confirming the possibility to a degree that t
“Good Morning, Mr. Ankara.” The woman in uniform greeted me as I walked down the inn's floor.“Morning. Black Coffee and Bread.” I replied as I wiped my eyes, walking to my usual spot.“White or Brown?” She asked, holding her broom in her right hand.“Brown,” I replied as she turned for a smile. “Will be served soon!” The woman then went to the counter and talked to her mother. I opened my newspaper today and began to read the news. News about a growing business came to mind. Bootleggers of goods in Heliconia are still at large. Trading up to the Avaloria province, where the merchants resided on the continent,The tavern door opened, and Duke Hebsly entered with an unexplainable expression as he sat down in the chair in front of me. “What brings you here?” I said without making eye contact with Duke.“The man you told me to watch. He said he’ll comply.”“Good. Things will be easier that way. Did he give you his telephone number?”“Yeah, it’s all in this paper,” Duke said as he gave me
